South shore campground

SW Suttle Lake Loop, Sisters, OR 97759, USA

3.0
Several camping sites are available around the main lake - Suttle Lake, maintained by USFS. Reservations can be made and a few spots might be available without reservation. A private resort is also available here. Make sure to bring cash. There are no ATM machines around.Campsites are spacious and have beautiful views and a mix of open spaces and shade.Keep in mind that the weather here is windy very often, despite the geography defined by the ancient crater. Every time we visited this place the wind was pretty strong, making it challenging to enjoy the lake itself, however it also kept mosquitoes out of sight. As an alternative you might check out a few smaller lakes around that don't have the wind problem, but lately the camping site at Scout Lake nearby was closed and the area was open for day use only. Other lakes might have wild camping ops - explore regulations and maps. There is a great 2 mile hike around the lake and a lot of people come with dogs. The water is pretty clean early in the summer, but algae problems might occur, so check water quality before going in.Biking is also possible around the lake. - Roman Kultajev
