Peconic River Campground

312 S River Rd, Calverton, NY 11933, USA

4.0
Cute little privately owned campground. Nice view of Peconic Lake. Sadly no swimming in the lake. No electric hookup, and amazing well water access. Much better than city water. Be careful of the marsh during the rain, lol. So many wonderful little fire pits dotted around the campgrounds. Dogs are permitted, I just highly recommend that they be leashed, just in case the swans decide to come on land. - Alicia Chylde (Darkie)

But fear not, outdoor enthusiasts! Nestled on the beautiful East End, the Peconic River Campground in Calverton offers a charming, privately owned haven that promises a return to simpler, more peaceful camping.

It’s a place where you can truly "unplug" and appreciate the quiet moments, whether that's enjoying a morning cup of tea with a view of Peconic Lake or being "lulled to sleep by an owl and crickets."

Peconic River Campground embraces a back-to-basics approach, making it an ideal spot for tent campers and those who appreciate a more natural setting. It’s also a welcoming spot for our furry friends, with dogs permitted to enjoy the outdoor adventure alongside their humans. If you're looking for a tranquil retreat that connects you with the natural beauty of Long Island, without sacrificing convenience, then Peconic River Campground might just be your next favorite New York escape.

This address places it directly on Long Island's East End, within Suffolk County, a prime area known for its vineyards, farms, and coastal charm. For New York residents, particularly those in the greater Long Island and even New York City metropolitan areas, this location offers an accessible weekend getaway or a longer vacation destination.

The campground's position on S River Road (also known as Route 105 in some stretches) provides straightforward road access. It's easily reachable from major Long Island expressways like the Long Island Expressway (I-495), making the drive relatively simple from most parts of the island. While it is on Long Island and some background "traffic noise" or even the "train didn't bother" one reviewer, the overall sentiment is that the "place to be quiet and peaceful with the occasional noise from civilization." This means you get the best of both worlds: a feeling of being immersed in nature, yet not completely isolated from necessary amenities.

Campers can "bring your canoe or kayak and feel free to launch it right on site," making it an excellent base for paddling adventures. The area is also known for its extensive walkable dikes along the river, providing opportunities for leisurely strolls and enjoying the waterfront scenery.

However, specific, ongoing, public promotions or discount codes are not consistently advertised in the same way larger chain campgrounds might.

Based on typical practices for smaller, independent campgrounds, potential "offers" or pricing structures might include:

  • Pricing structure: The campground operates with a minimum nightly rate, and an additional fee per person for groups exceeding that minimum. Children under 5 are often free, with a reduced rate for children aged 6 to 12. For example, a $45 minimum per night, with $10 for children ages 6 to 12.
  • Seasonal Rates: Prices may vary slightly by season, with higher rates during peak summer weekends and lower rates during the shoulder seasons.
  • Word-of-Mouth Incentives: Given its "cute little privately owned" nature, positive reviews and repeat business are highly valued. While not a formal "promotion," being a returning customer could lead to favorable interactions or priority booking.
  • Referral Discounts: It's possible that informal referral programs might exist, where existing customers receive a small benefit for referring new campers.

The best way to inquire about any current deals, pricing flexibility for longer stays, or special circumstances is to directly contact the campground management using the provided phone number. Given the friendly and accommodating nature of the staff, as noted by a reviewer, a direct call is likely the most effective way to learn about any potential savings or special arrangements.
