Acorn Campground Introduce
Hey New Jersey locals! Are you searching for a convenient camping spot in South Jersey, close to the pristine beaches of Cape May and the vibrant boardwalks of Wildwood? Acorn Campground in Green Creek, NJ, now part of the Thousand Trails network, offers a location that puts you right in the heart of the action. For years, this campground has served as a base for families and friends looking to enjoy the unique charm of the Jersey Shore. While it has recently transitioned under new ownership, it continues to provide camping opportunities for those seeking an outdoor experience in this popular coastal region.
Acorn Campground offers a variety of sites for RVs and tents, aiming to provide a comfortable base for your adventures. As part of a larger network, it is undergoing a period of transition, which can bring both changes and new opportunities. For those familiar with its past as a family-owned and operated establishment, the new management marks a shift in its operation and overall guest experience.
Acorn Campground is situated at 419 NJ-47 South, Green Creek, NJ 08219, USA. This highly accessible location places it strategically in Cape May County, a premier destination in Southern New Jersey. Route 47 is a major artery connecting inland areas to the coast, making the campground easy to reach for residents from across New Jersey and beyond. Its proximity to some of the state's most beloved coastal towns is a significant advantage.
The campground is just a short drive from the historic town of Cape May, known for its Victorian architecture, beautiful beaches, and diverse culinary scene. The lively atmosphere of Wildwood, with its expansive boardwalk, amusement piers, and wide beaches, is also within easy reach. This convenient location allows campers to enjoy the tranquility of a campground setting while having quick access to a wealth of tourist attractions, dining, and shopping options along the Jersey Shore. However, as noted by recent visitors, those arriving in the dark should be aware that lighting on the main road at the turn-in may be limited.
As part of the Thousand Trails network, Acorn Campground generally aims to provide a range of services typical of a family-oriented campground, although recent reviews indicate some amenities may be in flux. Historically, and as expected from a campground:
- RV and Tent Sites: Offers various site types to accommodate different camping preferences, from full hook-up RV sites to tent sites.
- Restrooms and Bathhouses: Public bathhouses are available for guest use, though cleanliness has been noted as an area of concern in recent reviews.
- Laundry Facilities: Typically, campgrounds of this size offer laundry facilities for convenience, especially for longer stays.
- Camp Store: A camp store usually provides essential camping supplies, snacks, and perhaps souvenirs.
- Wi-Fi Access: May offer Wi-Fi access in designated areas, though connectivity quality can vary.
- Propane Refills: Often available on-site for RVs and grills.
- Dump Station: A sanitary dump station for RV waste is generally provided.
- Seasonal Camping: Offers seasonal camping options for those who wish to have a dedicated spot for the entire season.
It is strongly recommended for prospective visitors to contact the campground directly to confirm the current availability and operational status of specific services, particularly those highlighted in recent feedback.
While undergoing a transition, Acorn Campground's location offers inherent advantages, and some features may still contribute to a camping experience:
- Proximity to Jersey Shore Attractions: Its location near Cape May, Wildwood, and other South Jersey beaches is a major draw, allowing easy access to popular coastal activities, dining, and entertainment.
- Access to Natural Surroundings: Being in Green Creek offers access to the natural environment of Cape May County, including local wildlife.
- Community Atmosphere (for seasonal campers): For long-term seasonal campers, a sense of community often develops, fostering friendships and a "camper family" environment.
- Potential for Future Improvements: As part of the Thousand Trails network, the campground may be slated for future renovations and upgrades, which could enhance facilities and guest experience in the long term. However, current reviews mention "major construction debris" as a present issue.
- Recreational Areas: The campground lists amenities like playgrounds, though recent feedback indicates there might be only one suitable for children over five, lacking equipment for younger children.
Visitors should be prepared for potential inconsistencies in amenities and maintenance, as indicated by recent customer feedback concerning areas like pond maintenance, road conditions (potholes), and gate security. It's advisable to set expectations based on current information rather than past reputation.
As part of the Thousand Trails network, Acorn Campground's promotions are typically tied to Thousand Trails memberships. Members often enjoy benefits such as waived daily site fees, discounts on cabin rentals, and access to a network of campgrounds across the country. Non-members can also book stays, but typically at a higher nightly rate. It is advisable to visit the Thousand Trails official website or contact Acorn Campground directly to inquire about specific membership options, non-member rates, or any current promotions that might be available for new bookings. Seasonal camping fees are also a significant part of their offerings, and recent reviews suggest these fees have been increasing, which is a consideration for long-term campers.

It provides basic camping facilities for RVs and tents, allowing for an outdoor experience within reach of vibrant coastal towns. Acorn Campground Reviews
This used to be a family owned and lovingly operated campground, but ever since it was aquired by Thousand Trails it is a run down and disappointing WASTE OF MONEY.Arriving in the dark is very dangerous as there is no light on main road at the turn in. We were not informed in advanced the pool wouldn't be open this summer. Major construction debris lay all over the guest parking lot. They list two playgrounds in the amenities, but there's only one for kids over five. There is no playground equipment for children under 5 not even a baby swing in the playground. NOT INCLUSIVE. NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY. The bath houses are not clean. We came home covered in ticks. Mosquitos are rampant. The ponds are overgrown, the roads are dangerously full of potholes. Often, the gate is left open overnight, meaning no sense of security for guests at all.
Jun 18, 2025 · Carly JaeI am a seasonal camper here. I love having my family and friends down, and of course, our camper friends are like family. The cons ever since Acorn Campground was purchased by Thousand Trails, the campground is like the forgotten stepchild, the roads inside are horrible, and we will not have a pool this year, because they did not do their job and pull the correct permits 2 weeks before Memorial Day. There are no safe fishing ponds FYI. But they keep raising the fees all of us seasonals have a very hard decision to make.
May 31, 2025 · Teresa VarhalmiStayed there and loved it! This was our first time there with our new camper. The place is well kept and the bathrooms are beautiful!
May 23, 2025 · Michael AlaiaAsk if pools are operational when you reserve a site. For 3 years now pool will not be open until after Memorial Day!!!This is due to a known problem . This year despite continued rate increases the pools won’t open till end of June if that!
May 14, 2025 · Renee HainesThe pool has been closed for 3 seasons on memorial day weekend. This year is no exception. They waited until the last minute to start work on it now it won’t be open until July. Would not recommend
