Tumbling Waters Campground and Trout Pond Introduce
For North Carolina locals craving an authentic mountain escape, Tumbling Waters Campground and Trout Pond in Almond, NC, offers a truly unique and refreshing experience. Nestled in a picturesque valley at 2,000 feet above sea level, this family-run campground provides a tranquil haven away from the hustle and bustle of city life, yet surprisingly close to many of Western North Carolina's most beloved attractions. Whether you're a seasoned camper, introducing your kids to the joys of the outdoors for the first time, or an avid angler, Tumbling Waters promises a memorable stay with the soothing sounds of the river as your constant companion.
What makes Tumbling Waters Campground truly special is its genuine connection to nature. Being "right next to the river" is a huge bonus, allowing campers to fall asleep to the amazing sound of flowing water. This auditory bliss, combined with the absence of city lights, creates breathtaking starry nights, providing a profound sense of peace and disconnection from everyday stresses. It’s the kind of place where you can truly unwind and reconnect with the natural world, a precious commodity for busy North Carolinians.
The "Trout Pond" is another significant draw, offering a fantastic opportunity for both experienced and novice anglers. Visitors consistently report catching plenty of fish, including Rainbow, Brook, and Brown trout, right on site. What's even better, the campground often provides all the necessary bait and tackle, and a North Carolina state fishing license is NOT required for fishing in their private pond, making it incredibly accessible for a spontaneous fishing adventure. This unique amenity ensures that fresh, delicious trout can be part of your camping meal, adding a delightful, fresh-from-the-source experience.
Tumbling Waters is known for being a "great family run place." The staff are consistently praised for their friendliness and helpfulness, going above and beyond to ensure guests have a wonderful experience. They provide valuable local insights, offering a "wonderful list of some of the great things to go and see/do in the area." This personalized touch from a local, family-oriented business makes visitors feel genuinely welcome and significantly enhances their trip by guiding them to local gems and adventures. This commitment to guest satisfaction builds a strong sense of community and encourages repeat visits.
While the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive, it’s always wise to be informed about all aspects of a stay. One review mentioned a specific issue with the "Large Cabin" regarding a moldy smell and cleanliness concerns. It is important to note that this feedback appears to be isolated to that particular cabin and provides valuable insight for those considering cabin rentals. However, the general consensus for campsites, which are gravel for RVs and pop-ups, and grassy for tents, consistently highlights their quality and the overall cleanliness of the bathhouses and other general facilities, which include hot showers and coin laundry.
The campground's strategic location in Almond, while feeling wonderfully secluded, is also incredibly convenient for exploring the best of Western North Carolina. It’s "away from the sounds of busy streets, yet close to everything we wanted to go and see." This includes world-renowned attractions like The Tail of the Dragon, fantastic local mountain biking trails, the Nantahala River for whitewater rafting, and the majestic Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The ability to easily access these adventure hubs from a peaceful base camp is a major advantage for active North Carolina residents.
For first-time campers, like the boys mentioned in a review who "had a blast," Tumbling Waters provides an ideal introduction to the joys of outdoor living. The combination of a safe, family-friendly environment, engaging activities like fishing, and the soothing sounds of nature ensures that even the youngest adventurers have a fantastic time. This makes it an excellent choice for creating cherished family memories and fostering a love for camping from an early age.
In conclusion, Tumbling Waters Campground and Trout Pond stands out as a must-visit destination for North Carolina locals seeking a genuine and memorable camping experience. Its unique blend of riverside tranquility, exceptional trout fishing, convenient access to regional attractions, and a welcoming, family-run atmosphere solidifies its reputation as a top-tier choice for outdoor enthusiasts across the state. May 24, 2025 · Yaha ZavalaI rented the "Large Cabin" as I have for many years in the past. This time, the moldy smell was overpowering. Cans of air freshener bought at a local dollar store didn't help. They charge a "cleaning fee" but it's very obvious they don't clean the cabin. Nightstand had a thick layer of dust on it. The ceiling fan blades had thick dust on them as well. The ceiling fan was so unbalanced, I thought it was going to fall from the ceiling, at times. I woke up both my nights there, coughing like crazy and searching for a bottle of water. I started getting sick from my stay in the moldy cabin. Which got worse. Bugs inside the cabin, crawling up the interior walls. Great super nice people and location is great for The Tail or local mountain biking trails, etc. But, stay away from the "large cabin" it is toxic....
Jun 14, 2025 · joe smithHad a great trip! Campground was awesome tent camped and meet a # of people, caught a few trout out of creek next to my camp sight. Loved it and will be coming back hopefully sooner than later.
Jun 16, 2025 · Happy Life Urban livingWe have been camping for most of our lives and the owners, Joe and Carolyn, are the most gracious and warm people we have ever met. The campsite itself is quiet, free from any road sounds, and the other campers are so friendly. The restrooms are spotless and we slept soundly to the sounds of the creek next to our buckeye cabin. We cannot wait until next year, when we will definitely fish from the well-stocked small lake.
Aug 15, 2024 · Mike NotarfrancescoMe and My son came here to fish in June 2023. The owners was super nice. The fish was easy and quick to catch. My son had a bast. I would recommend the trout pond to anyone wanting to catch nice trout quickly. They will butcher them on site for you. We ate like Kings for days. Thank you
