As a facility managed by the New Jersey State Park Service, Thundergust Lake Cabin Area at Parvin State Park primarily operates on a standardized rate system, rather than frequent, short-term promotional offers common in private accommodations. The inherent value lies in the extremely competitive pricing for cabins within a state park.
Key pricing information to note:
- Resident vs. Non-Resident Rates: New Jersey residents typically enjoy a reduced rate compared to out-of-state visitors. For example, cabins accommodating four people are often $55.00 per day for residents and $65.00 for non-residents. Larger accessible cabins for six people might be $75.00 for residents and $85.00 for non-residents.
- Pet-Friendly Campsites: While pets are generally not permitted in the cabins, there are designated pet-friendly tent and trailer campsites (sites 45-55) available at an additional charge of $5 per night, with specific pet registration requirements.
- Off-Season Availability: Cabins are generally open from April 1 through October 31. While explicit off-season discounts are not widely advertised, booking during the shoulder seasons (spring and fall) might offer a more peaceful experience without the peak summer crowds, often at the same affordable rates.

Thundergust Lake Cabin Area Reviews
This deserves 5 stars just for the price of the cabins! They're really inexpensive and on the lake. What a great thing to have at a state park! I'm so glad this is o ly 10 mins away from me.
Mar 28, 2025 · Larry McBrydeActually my employer has the contract to replace the septic systems for each of the cabins in the park. So we have been here for a couple of weeks and as far as I can see they keep up with the daily duties that are involved with maintaining it. Cabins are spacious and the park rangers patrol thru quite often so it is a safe place to camp if your an outdoorsy person.
Jan 05, 2024 · Sam DrogoNice, rustic cabins. Excellent value for the money. Clean. A little hot, (August weekend) bring a fan - on trip advisor we read a review where you could open the cabin doors to the entire screened in porch for great air flow - no can do for cabin 13, anyway - all but one standard sized door was nailed shut prohibiting the intended design.Bathroom clean, even a medicine cabinet to store things. Bring everything but toilet paper. Kitchen sink, electric stove with oven, refrigerator- all work great. Gave the fridge a good cleaning as the previous visitor had a bottle of soda explode and just left it.The lake trail the cabins are next to is great for a quick walk in the early evening. Lots of mosquitoes- some bite with a vengeance leaving welts. Take serious bug repellent or bathe in citronella essential oil! Also, cover your feet and ankles when walking through the damp grass at night, I forgot, wore flip flops to the car late at night and got a couple deer ticks on my ankles. Easily removed if you are aware, but they are tiny and cause problems if you don’t realize the exposure potential and watch out accordingly.Would recommend this spot for a weekend. The park itself is pretty busy. Lots of traffic on the green trail for community members just getting in some exercise, not camping at the park.My one complaint: trash. Leave No Trace is a nothing more than a pipe dream, there were no areas without wrappers, cans, bottles, or other garbage tossed around. We cleaned up our camp site area (behind the cabin to the lake, the front and immediate area was clean). You could easily make a volunteer clean up trip out of your stay.
