Spearhead Point Campground Introduce
For those in Wisconsin seeking an authentic outdoor experience, far from the hustle and bustle of city life, Spearhead Point Campground offers a pristine escape into the heart of nature. Nestled within the expansive Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, this campground provides a rustic yet incredibly rewarding camping adventure for individuals, families, and friends. Unlike highly developed resorts, Spearhead Point embraces the natural beauty of its surroundings, offering a chance to truly disconnect and immerse oneself in the serene Wisconsin wilderness. This article aims to provide a comprehensive and factual overview of Spearhead Point Campground, highlighting its prime location, the essential services it offers, its standout features, and why it's an ideal destination for Wisconsin locals looking to reconnect with the great outdoors.
Spearhead Point Campground is renowned for its picturesque setting on a small peninsula near the north end of the 411-acre Mondeaux Flowage. This makes it one of the most popular and scenic lakeside campgrounds in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. The campground features 27 non-electric campsites, catering to both tent and RV/trailer campers (back-in only). Each site is thoughtfully shaded, offering ample tree cover that provides pleasant shade during warmer months, and includes a parking spur, a picnic table, and a fire ring with a grill – all the essentials for a classic camping experience. Reviewers consistently praise the "beautiful views from the water access sites" and the "clear" lake water, especially during the vibrant fall colors, underscoring the campground's stunning natural appeal. The rustic nature of the campground, focusing on core amenities like vault toilets and drinking water (from a hand pump), allows campers to truly embrace a more traditional camping style. It’s also notable for being pet-friendly, making it a great option for those who enjoy bringing their furry companions along on their adventures, provided pets are leashed or caged.
Spearhead Point Campground is strategically located in Westboro, Wisconsin, within the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. Its address is Westboro, WI 54490, USA. This placement offers a perfect blend of secluded natural beauty and reasonable access to nearby towns for supplies and services.
The campground sits on Forest Road 106, along the western side of the Mondeaux Flowage. While it offers a feeling of being deep in the wilderness, it's approximately 25 minutes north of Medford, Wisconsin, which serves as a hub for groceries, supplies, gas, and even a laundromat. Rib Lake, another nearby town, is about 18 miles away and also provides essential services. The approach to the campground may involve forest roads, which adds to the adventurous feel but requires attention to directions, especially since cell service can be limited or nonexistent directly at the campground. Reviewers have noted the need to be on the lookout for small forest road signs, advising against sole reliance on phone maps and suggesting the use of Wisconsin state maps for navigation.
Despite its rustic charm, the campground offers excellent accessibility to numerous recreational opportunities. The Mondeaux Flowage, directly accessible from the campground, is ideal for boating (motorized and non-motorized like canoeing and kayaking), fishing for species such as northern pike, crappie, bluegill, musky, and walleye, and even swimming at a designated beach located about a mile away near the Mondeaux Dam Lodge. Hiking enthusiasts will particularly appreciate the easy access to a portion of the renowned Ice Age National Scenic Trail, which runs right next to the campground, as well as the Aldo Leopold Nature Trail, about a mile away. This combination of water-based activities and extensive hiking trails makes Spearhead Point a highly desirable location for outdoor adventures.

Spearhead Point Campground Reviews
Nice campground, pretty views from the water access sites. Vault toilets and water source but no showers on site. Fortunately you can use a coin operated shower at Mondeaux Dam Lodge. Dog friendly, did not notice any playgrounds each spot has a picnic table and a fire pit.The ground was on the rough side for tenting but overall a good experience.
Jul 26, 2024 · Marta Osborne (Kari)This is a great place to camp with lots of hiking trails. There are many campsites with direct access to the lake. It is also a clean and we'll kept campground. When we were there the lake water was very clear and the fall colors were just gorgeous.
Oct 12, 2020 · Luke Ray ZimmermanBathrooms were under construction eventhough the site said they were open. The rec area has clearly not been up kept in awhile. The beach has been taken over by weeds. The campsite we stayed at had lake access but way too weedy for a boat so couldn't use it.
Aug 24, 2022 · Mercedes BerningWell-kept campground with stellar views of the flowage. Water is always available just a couple hundred yards down the road at the glacial spring, though there’s a hand pump within the campground as well. A handful of campsites have their own small docks on the water.
