Riverside Group Campground, located near Coalville, offers a unique opportunity for just this. As a designated group campground, it provides a space where multiple families can gather and enjoy the natural beauty of Utah together. The setting is ideal for creating lasting memories, with a focus on shared experiences rather than individual sites. This article will provide you with a factual and engaging overview of Riverside Group Campground, helping you understand its services, highlights, and what you need to know before you book your next group adventure.
Riverside Group Campground is part of the larger Rockport State Park, located at 3045 Cottonwood Dr, Coalville, UT 84017, USA. This location places it in a beautiful area near the Weber River and Rockport Reservoir, offering stunning views and a tranquil environment. The campground is easily accessible by car, with on-site parking provided for guests. This is a significant convenience for groups, as it allows multiple vehicles to park in a centralized location, simplifying logistics and ensuring that everyone has a place to leave their car. While the location is beautiful, some visitors have experienced issues with the booking process and park hours. The campground is managed by Utah State Parks, and it is crucial to verify their policies on gate hours and online booking availability. Despite these potential logistical challenges, the scenery and group-friendly setup make it a highly desirable location for a planned event. It is also important to note that a review mentions the gates closing at 11:00 p.m., which is a good detail for late arrivals to be aware of.
Riverside Group Campground offers essential services and amenities designed to support a large gathering. The facilities are functional and meet the basic needs of campers.
Public Restrooms: The campground provides access to public restrooms, a crucial amenity for any large group event. The availability of these facilities ensures a more convenient and hygienic stay for all attendees.
On-Site Parking: As a group campground, it is equipped with on-site parking. This feature simplifies the process of bringing in multiple vehicles for a large group, making it much easier to unload and set up camp without the hassle of finding separate parking spots for everyone.
Camping Fee: A camping fee is required for a stay at the campground. This fee helps to maintain the facilities and preserve the natural area, ensuring that the park remains a beautiful and well-kept resource for future generations of Utahns to enjoy.
Good for Kids: The campground is noted as being "Good for kids," making it a great destination for family reunions and youth groups. The open spaces provide a safe and natural environment for children to play and explore, away from the typical dangers of a more rustic or undeveloped area.
The features and highlights of Riverside Group Campground are what truly define the experience for visitors and set it apart as a premier group camping destination.
Dedicated Group Space: The primary highlight of this campground is that it is designed specifically for groups. This means you have a dedicated space to gather, set up tents, and have a communal area for activities without disturbing other campers. It's an ideal setup for a private and focused group event.
Scenic Location: The campground is part of Rockport State Park, offering a picturesque setting with access to the Weber River and Rockport Reservoir. While one reviewer mentioned that a person living outside the gate was shining a laser pointer at them, this seems to be an isolated and unusual incident. The natural beauty of the area, with its riverfront views and scenic surroundings, remains a major draw for visitors.
Seasonal Availability: The campground is noted to be "open year around" with gates that don't close until 11:00 p.m. This information, while contradicted by one user's experience of finding it locked, suggests a valuable feature of being a year-round destination for outdoor activities, including winter camping or day use. It is always wise to call ahead to confirm the current status and hours of operation.
Proximity to Rockport State Park: As part of a larger state park, campers at Riverside Group Campground have access to all of the park’s recreational opportunities, including boating, fishing, and hiking at the nearby reservoir. This provides a wide range of activities to keep your group entertained throughout your stay.
For any inquiries or to make a reservation for your group, you can use the following contact details. It is highly recommended to call the park office directly to confirm availability and hours, especially in light of the review mentioning online booking and gate issues.

Riverside Group Campground Reviews
Open year around? Gates don’t close until 11:00 pm? Could not book on-line, website said tons of availability and walk ins are welcome…. Totally closed and locked…. And the guy who lives outside of the gate will shine a red laser pointer at you if you’re stopped for more than 2 min (felt like I was going to be shot!). Utah state parks need to update their web site!!
