The gentle flow of the Natchaug provides natural "sleep sounds," creating an incredibly serene environment that encourages deep rest and rejuvenation. It's a place where you can truly disconnect from the demands of work and technology, and instead, reconnect with the rhythm of nature and the company of loved ones.
The welcoming atmosphere is further enhanced by the owner, Phil (and Elaine), who are consistently praised for their exceptional kindness, easygoing demeanor, and genuine hospitality. This address places it in the scenic hills of Northeast Connecticut, an area renowned for its natural beauty, rural charm, and peaceful atmosphere. The campground's position on the Natchaug River, directly across from the Natchaug State Forest, further enhances its appeal as an immersive natural retreat.
For Connecticut residents, Peppertree Campground offers excellent accessibility, making it a viable option for weekend getaways or longer vacations without extensive travel. Full Hookups & Amenities: Many RV sites offer full hookups, and all sites generally include a picnic table and fire ring. Utilities include 20 and 30 Amp electric service, cable TV (where available for weekend campers), and Wi-Fi (available at overnite sites and throughout the park, supporting mobile devices and streaming at 40 sites).

Laundry Facilities: Coin-operated laundry facilities are available on-site for guest convenience.
LP Gas Filling: The campground is able to fill chassis-mounted motor homes and portable tanks that meet current codes. Filling times vary by season.
Camp Store/Office: A store/office offers check-in, warm greetings, and even escort to your site. It sells limited grocery items, ice cream treats, souvenirs, basic camping supplies, ice, firewood, and live bait and fishing supplies.
Fishing and Tubing: Direct access to the Natchaug River allows for excellent fly fishing, trout fishing, and relaxing river tubing. Tubes are available at the store.
Recreational Facilities: Includes a recreation field and equipment for activities like volleyball, horseshoes, and basketball. There is also an open pavilion and a playground for children.

Pet-Friendly: Well-behaved pets are welcome, with vaccination records required and potential breed restrictions. Pet owners are expected to clean up after their pets.
Firewood Policy: Firewood is available for purchase at the camp store, and due to the threat of invasive species, no outside firewood may be brought into the park in accordance with CT DEP regulations.
Prime Riverside Location: The most prominent highlight is the campground's idyllic setting directly on the Natchaug River. This offers beautiful views, the soothing sound of flowing water for "great sleep," and easy access for fishing and tubing.

Well-Maintained Facilities: The campground boasts newly remodeled restrooms with hot showers and clean laundry facilities, ensuring comfort and convenience for campers.
Community Feel (for the right crowd): While not focused on organized activities every day, the friendly atmosphere and shared love for river relaxation foster a sense of community among campers, especially those who return frequently.
As a privately owned and operated "hidden gem" that prioritizes a serene and consistent experience, Peppertree Campground does not widely advertise traditional, time-limited promotional offers in the same way larger, corporate campgrounds might. Their primary "offer" is the consistent provision of a tranquil, welcoming, and high-quality riverside camping experience, which many returning visitors clearly value highly.
However, the campground's pricing structure for various lengths of stay—daily, weekly, monthly, or seasonal—provides flexibility that can be seen as a form of value. Opting for longer stays, such as weekly or monthly, often comes with a lower per-night rate compared to daily bookings, which can be a significant "special offer" for those planning extended getaways. Seasonal rates, in particular, cater to dedicated campers who wish to make Peppertree their regular retreat throughout the open season.
The consistent praise for the owner, Phil (and Elaine), and their accommodating nature also suggests that a direct inquiry might reveal specific availability or tailored arrangements that suit individual camper needs, rather than broad, publicly announced discounts. For the most accurate and up-to-date information on rates, availability for your preferred duration, and any potential unadvertised opportunities, it is highly recommended that you contact Peppertree Campground directly by phone. This will ensure you get the best possible information for planning your peaceful Connecticut camping trip.

Given its "hidden gem" status, direct communication is often the best way to secure your spot at this popular tranquil destination.
For residents of Connecticut, Peppertree Campground in Eastford stands out as an exceptionally suitable and highly recommended destination, particularly for those seeking a genuine escape focused on relaxation and a deeper connection with nature. Its smaller, more intimate size is a significant advantage, fostering a peaceful atmosphere that many larger, amenity-packed campgrounds simply cannot replicate. This is ideal for locals who desire a true break from the noise and demands of everyday life, without having to travel far from home.
The campground's direct access to the Natchaug River is a premier draw. For fly fishermen, the opportunity to cast a line just steps from their campsite is invaluable. The option to float down the river also offers a unique and leisurely way to enjoy the natural surroundings, a distinctive local experience.
Furthermore, the genuine hospitality of the owners, Phil and Elaine, transforms a simple camping trip into a truly welcoming experience. Their kindness and easygoing nature contribute significantly to the relaxed ambiance, making campers feel like valued guests rather than just another reservation. This personal touch is a hallmark of many beloved local businesses and sets Peppertree apart.
While Peppertree emphasizes disconnecting from electronics, its location in Northeast Connecticut still provides a balance. It’s accessible from various parts of the state and is within a reasonable drive of several local attractions and essential amenities. This means Connecticut locals can enjoy their peaceful riverside retreat while still having the convenience of nearby towns if needed. For those in Connecticut looking to truly unplug, recharge, and reconnect with nature and loved ones in a genuinely serene and friendly setting, Peppertree Campground is indeed a hidden gem that promises a memorable and restorative experience right in their own beautiful state.

Peppertree Campground Reviews
We have stayed here a few times. The campground is on the smaller side but in a good way. If you are looking for a big pool and a lot of activities then this is not your place but if you enjoy relaxing next to a river this is it. In part because there is not a pool, we like coming in the spring or fall. The owner, Phil is exceptionally kind and easy going. He makes you feel welcome and always has a smile. This is a hidden gem. Here are a couple pictures. The first with the firepit was our site.
Jan 20, 2025 · Dan HPeppertree is a small but beautiful little campground on the Natchaug River. The owner is extremely helpful. The first time we camped there we were right on the river. My husband enjoyed fly fishing. The second time we camped there we weren't on the river, but we were close. However, there are several spots for easy access along the river. And we could still hear the river which makes for great sleep sounds. We will definitely be back again.
Jun 26, 2024 · Julie KennyThe campground is not maintained nor updated. The owner is accomatating, but he needs to make some upgrades to the facility. He is charging $75 a night, which is steep for a no frills campground. We stayed at at a gorgeous campground in Hadley's Point, Maine for only $65 a night with incredible amenities.
Jul 05, 2024 · Alicia MoyerThe owner is one of the best and friendliest that we have come across in a long time. He made time to answer questions and always checked in on campers to make sure all was good. We enjoyed a relaxing weekend by the river!
Aug 26, 2024 · LaurieWhat a great Family campground! We had a site right on the river. The “marriage saver” was awesome helping us back in. The site was very spacious. They had a bunch of activities including a duck race. My son loved the ice cream social. We would recommend to family and friends.About 3 days after our trip we received a hand written note in the mail from the owners. That was a great touch.
