The Ottawa County Fairgrounds Campground excels in providing essential services that enhance the comfort and enjoyment of its campers. While it maintains a simple approach, the quality of its core offerings often exceeds expectations.
Exceptionally Clean Restrooms and Showers: One of the most frequently praised features of this campground is the cleanliness of its bathroom facilities. Reviews consistently highlight that the restrooms and showers are meticulously maintained by dedicated staff. Campers often note that these facilities are "way nicer than many other campgrounds" and are "SUPER clean," a crucial factor for a comfortable camping experience, especially after a day of outdoor activities. The showers are individual, providing privacy, and are often described as looking recently remodeled.
Water and Electricity Hookups: The campground offers sites equipped with water and electricity hookups, which are fundamental for most RV and camper needs. While full sewer hookups are not available at individual sites, this is often a minor inconvenience for "simple camping" as noted by satisfied customers. The availability of these essential utilities ensures a comfortable stay for those not requiring full hookups.
On-site Dump Station: Despite the lack of individual sewer hookups, the campground provides a convenient dump station located behind the fair office. This allows campers to easily dispose of their grey and black water tanks before departing, eliminating the need to search for off-site facilities or pay exorbitant fees elsewhere. Some external dump stations charge around $10, making the on-site option a valuable amenity.
Caring and Responsive Staff: Customer reviews frequently commend the staff, particularly those responsible for maintaining the bathrooms and the individuals answering phone inquiries. They are described as "kind," "patient," "helpful," and "specific," demonstrating a strong commitment to guest satisfaction. This level of service ensures a smooth check-in process and readily available assistance for any questions or needs.
Trash Services: While not explicitly detailed, the presence of a well-maintained campground implies readily available trash disposal facilities, contributing to the overall cleanliness of the site.
Pet-Friendly (with Leash Policy): The campground is generally pet-friendly, allowing furry family members to accompany campers. However, like most responsible campgrounds, pets must be kept on a leash when not in a designated area, ensuring the safety and comfort of all guests. This policy allows pet owners to enjoy their trip without worry.
The Ottawa County Fairgrounds Campground offers several notable features and highlights that contribute to its positive reputation and make it a desirable choice for campers in Michigan.
Peaceful and Spacious Environment: Despite being located at a fairgrounds, many campers are pleasantly surprised by how quiet and spacious the sites are. Reviews describe the atmosphere as "so peaceful," allowing for true relaxation. The quietude is a significant draw, contrasting with busier, more crowded campgrounds, and allowing for an undisturbed connection with nature.
Excellent Value for Price: The cost of staying at Ottawa County Fairgrounds Campground is often highlighted as "exceptional" by visitors. This affordability, combined with the quality of services and amenities offered, makes it a fantastic value for campers looking to stretch their travel budget without sacrificing comfort or convenience.
Fenced-in Playground: A truly outstanding feature for families is the lovely fenced-in playground. This amenity offers a safe and secure space where children can play freely. One heartwarming review noted how it provided an unprecedented opportunity for a disabled child to "roam freely and play," marking a significant milestone. This thoughtful addition underscores the campground's family-friendly nature.
Community Fire Pit: While individual fire rings are not provided at each site, the campground features a community fire pit. This serves as a central gathering point, encouraging social interaction among campers and fostering a sense of community. It's an ideal spot for sharing stories, making new friends, and enjoying the quintessential campfire experience.
Proximity to Local Attractions: The campground's location provides easy access to a wealth of attractions in and around Holland. This includes the famous Holland State Park with its beautiful beaches and the iconic "Big Red" lighthouse, as well as downtown Holland with its unique shops and dining experiences. Many campers appreciate the convenience of being close to these popular Michigan destinations.
Level and Grassy/Sandy Sites: Many sites are described as level and composed of grass or sand, providing a comfortable and stable surface for RVs and campers. While some sites might be on asphalt, the general layout and terrain contribute to an easy setup for most camping setups.
Surrounded by Woods: The campground is often described as being surrounded by "eerie" (in a good way for some) or simply beautiful woods. This natural setting enhances the camping experience, offering a sense of seclusion and connection to nature, even within a fairgrounds environment.

Ottawa County Fairgrounds Campground Reviews
The kind folks that take care of the campground bathrooms work HARD, and it is an often thankless job. The bathrooms were always very clean, even though there are a lot of dirt paths around. There are showers available in the restrooms as well. (They are way nicer than many other campgrounds.)There are no individual fire rings, but there is a community one. There are also no picnic tables, but most of us carry extra tables anyway. Also, no full sewer hookups, but again, no worries for simple camping. We had a site with water and electricity. We went to a nearby station to dump for a whopping $10.Overall -- no complaints.
Jul 09, 2024 · Erin Wiseman-ParkinI love this spot. I don't know if we lucked out or it's always quiet and spacious but it was so peaceful. The surrounding woods were eery but I kinda liked that so 🤣The showers are probably the best camp showers I've ever seen and the price was exceptional. Thank you to the person answering the phone! I must have called 3 times and they were patient, kind, and helpful (also very specific which I need in life).Lovely fenced in playground! Never been able to let my disabled son roam freely and play before, it was a milestone. 💖
Sep 10, 2023 · H. Jo MooreThe security was awful! However, the Artisan Market was huge and wonderful.
May 07, 2025 · Alexandria PetersNot a great campground as there are no signs to tell you where you are supposed to be. We arrived when it was raining and parked in a spot under the trees. Well come to find out a couple days later we were in the wrong area because of an upcoming event. So we moved to the correct area. Only water and electric, no sewer. So you had to dump up front at the dumping station. Either move your rig or use a pull behind honey pot. That is a big inconvenience. So the day we left there was an event going on and we were told by event staff that we couldn’t dump. So we went down the road to Love’s truck stop and dumped and were charged $10. The park did reimburse us for that charge. Close to town, no laundry facility. Nothing great and we wouldn’t stay here again.
Jul 20, 2024 · Char HargroveState park was full so I thought this could be an option just 2 nights before going to Traverse city state park. When I arrived to look around I was in awe of how depressing it looked. The bathrooms were way out dated? The sites had no power on them many yards away? The vibrations were very bad and negative. You couldn’t pay me $500 a night to stay here ! Just horrible visual!! Beware !!
