Old Man's Cave Campground is renowned for its strategic location, allowing campers to step directly onto the breathtaking trails that define the Hocking Hills experience. Visitors frequently rave about the ease of access to these stunning geological formations and waterfalls. The newer, updated bath and shower rooms are well-received, contributing to a comfortable stay. It’s important to note that while campsites can be closely situated, the overall experience of being nestled amidst the beauty of Hocking Hills, with trails literally at your doorstep, often outweighs concerns about privacy for many. Promotions or Special Offers
As a part of the Ohio State Park system, Old Man's Cave Campground operates under a standardized pricing and reservation structure managed by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR). While independent "promotions" in the commercial sense are not typically offered, the park does provide consistent value through its accessible rates and various discount programs available to eligible Ohio residents. Here’s what potential visitors can generally expect:
Online Reservation System: Campsites and Sherman Cabins can be conveniently reserved online through the official Ohio State Parks reservation portal (reserveohio.com). It is highly recommended to make reservations well in advance, especially for peak seasons (spring, summer, and fall weekends), as sites and cabins can book up quickly. Reservations can typically be made up to six months prior to your desired arrival date.
Tiered Pricing: Rates for campsites vary based on the type of hookup (full hook-up, electric, non-electric) and are set by the ODNR. Generally, Ohio State Parks aim for affordable pricing. For example, full hook-up sites might be around $45 per night, electric sites around $31-32, and non-electric sites around $27-28 during peak season, with slightly reduced rates in the off-peak season (November 1 – March 31).
Golden Buckeye Card Discount: Ohio residents aged 60 and over, who hold a valid Golden Buckeye Card, are eligible for a 50% discount on camping fees from Sunday through Thursday, and a 10% discount on Friday and Saturday. The cardholder must be present and listed on the reservation.
Military Discount: Active duty and retired military personnel receive a 10% discount on all overnight facilities, valid any night of the week. This discount is not restricted by the customer's state of residence.
Disabled Veteran/POW Free Camping Pass: Honorably discharged Ohio resident veterans who are former Prisoners of War or permanently and totally disabled veterans receiving VA compensation may qualify for a free camping pass. A $6.50 reservation fee still applies.
Off-Peak Season Rates and Amenities: During the off-peak season (typically November through March), specific amenities like some shower houses and water lines to full hook-up sites may be shut off due to weather. However, at least one shower house and the dump station generally remain open. Rates may also be reduced during these periods, offering a more budget-friendly option for those who enjoy winter camping.
It is always advisable to visit the official Ohio Department of Natural Resources website or use their reservation portal for the most current pricing, availability, and specific discount requirements, as policies and rates can be updated seasonally.

Old Man's Cave Campground Reviews
We stayed in the Sherman cabin. Loved everything about the park! Close to the pool and bathrooms. Bathrooms/showers need updated. My only complaint was the man mowing. I didn't think they were supposed to mow your site while you are camping there! He came during a rainstorm and hit the cabin 3 times with the mower, scaring my kids inside. He also blew wet grass all over our things outside, including my tarp that was over the fireplace, keeping my wood dry, my chairs, and in front of the grill on the concrete walkway. Also left a huge pile of grass next to the firepit. Beautiful hiking, and trails leading from campground to old mans cave and a few other trails.
Jun 14, 2025 · Becki CThe campground is decent, but there’s room for improvement. While one of the bath and shower rooms has been upgraded, the other remains quite old. There’s a shortage of flushing toilets, but they do have a pool. The campsites are closely situated, offering little privacy. However, the Sherman cabin 2 we stayed in was lovely, featuring a spacious living room and dining area. It’s nestled against a wooded area, providing easy access to the lake at the back. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
Mar 30, 2024 · Ying TGreat area, but small spots and close together. Was there for the local attractios, so we did not really care about the site sizes. Very short trail hike to old man caves from our site. The climb back was tough.
Oct 17, 2024 · Gary SmithThis place is place is "gorge"ous. I think the addition of the new large visitor center in 2018 is going to be the cherry on top of this nature's sundae. We got new light weight hiking boots that came in handy for the wet trails and rocks. There are various difficulties of trails that I feel can be recreational and for beginners. The park doesn't leave out the avid hikers with steep trails and long steps combinations.Parking is free. Wear comfortable shorts, shirts and hiking boots. Bring water or a bladder bag. Also you're going to want to bring your camera to snap all those beautiful scenes.
May 31, 2018 · Richard BallLet me start by saying, "WOOOWWWW, WOW and more WOWS'" This place is THE BEST adventure the boys and I have been on. It is GORGEOUS, BEAUTIFUL, FAIRY-TALISH 😁 There is so much to do. I didn't find the 'Old Man's, however, the cave was impossible to miss. They're huge and EVERYWHERE! Around EVERY corner was something more fabulous and exciting as the last. It reminded me of "Lord of the Rings" along w "Jurassic Park". The caves looked like they were dug out in the rock walls. You could live in them they're so deep in. The roots of the huge trees were entangled all over. Trees from up above looking as if they were going to just fall out from the dirt and come tumbling down. We did see the "Devil's Bathtub". I thought it was going to be bigger but it was still AWESOME! The story is that it goes all the way down to the middle of the Earth. We looked like little ants up against the huge rock walls. There were steps dug into the side of the walls but also steps that winded out over the creek water. The coolest set of stairs I've ever seen. We did not get to finish but GUARANTEE we WILL BE BACK next wkend. Starting early. 🌞 I took so many pics but I can only add 50. Everything u will have questions about will most likely be in my pics. Btw, I didn't see any playground, there is picnic areas and it is animal friendly so bring your dog along. He/she would love it! 🐕I give Old Man's Cave a 10 ⭐
