Madelia Campground at Watona Park Introduce
For Minnesota residents seeking a convenient and amenity-rich camping experience, Madelia Campground at Watona Park in Madelia offers a unique blend of outdoor recreation and easy access to local town comforts. Located within the bustling Watona Park, this campground provides a practical solution for a quick getaway or an extended stay, particularly for those who appreciate being close to activities and services. While it's noted as "small but pretty," its charm lies in its integration with the wider park and city offerings.
Madelia Campground caters to a variety of campers, from those with large RVs requiring full hookups to tent campers seeking a more traditional experience. With a good mix of electric, water, and sewer sites, it aims to provide a comfortable stay for all. The positive feedback from long-term seasonal campers, who have spent "12 weeks" here, highlights the clean and maintained sites, and the positive interactions with "great park rangers/managers" and "polite & courteous" fellow campers, suggesting a generally well-managed and friendly environment.
However, it's also important for prospective visitors to consider all feedback. While many enjoy their stay, some reviews point to areas for improvement, such as the distance to bathrooms and the need for more consistent cleaning in those facilities. There are also specific considerations like the proximity to the golf course, where "balls go whizzing by the cars and campers," which might be a concern for some, and limited parking for visitors. These points emphasize the importance of understanding the campground's unique setting before arrival.
Despite these minor considerations, the overall picture painted is one of a functional campground that provides significant value through its location within Watona Park. It serves as an excellent base for exploring Madelia and its surroundings, offering access to numerous activities and the charm of a small Minnesota town. For locals, this means less time traveling and more time enjoying the available amenities and the convenience of being close to home.
Madelia Campground at Watona Park is centrally located at 519 Everett Christensen Dr, Madelia, MN 56062, USA. This address places it directly within Watona Park, a popular municipal park on the south edge of Madelia. For Minnesota residents, Madelia is a readily accessible community in south-central Minnesota, making the campground a convenient destination for a short trip or a longer stay. It's not in an overly remote area, allowing for easy travel by car or RV via well-maintained state and local roads.
The key aspect of its location is its integration within Watona Park. This means campers have immediate access to a range of park amenities and are "walking distance to downtown Madelia." This accessibility to a charming small town's main street, with its shops, restaurants, and other services, is a significant draw for campers who appreciate convenience alongside their outdoor experience. Unlike many campgrounds that require a drive to the nearest town, Madelia Campground offers the unique benefit of urban proximity.
The park's setting along the banks of the Watonwan River also provides natural beauty and recreational opportunities such as fishing and canoeing. However, its immediate surroundings also include the Madelia Golf Course, leading to the notable observation that "golf balls go whizzing by the cars and campers." This proximity to a busy public golf course is a specific characteristic of this campground's location that potential visitors, especially those with small children or concerns about vehicle damage, should be aware of.
Despite this particular consideration, the overall accessibility and the benefit of being within a vibrant city park that is walkable to downtown Madelia make this campground a highly practical and appealing choice for Minnesota locals. It offers a unique combination of outdoor recreation and urban convenience, setting it apart from more secluded wilderness campgrounds.

Madelia Campground at Watona Park Reviews
Small but pretty. The golf course is so close that balls go whizzing by the cars and campers. The 2 bathrooms are pretty far away. Practically no parking for visitors. But not bad for a night or 2 at the most.
May 14, 2022 · BeccaStayed here for 12 weeks....great park, lots of activities, sites are clean & maintained, park rangers/managers are great, other campers are polite & courteous. Only one issue...bathrooms need to be cleaned daily....1 women's garbage bag with dirty diaper was left untouched for at least 10 weeks, shower floors untouched....men's shower floors, untouched for 12 weeks...shower head parts on the floor for 9 weeks, beer bottle tops, electrical tape, big clump of private hair, floors untouched....unhappy about this one situation, did make calls to have this addressed throughout our stay to city hall
Aug 25, 2023 · Matthew PayneThis is a very nice park with lots of camping space. Park offers lots to do baseball field, sand volleyball, swimming pool, golf course and much more. Campground attendant was very helpful she does a great job. Gave us a nice packet of information for the local businesses. The Mexican restaurant downtown was a great place to eat.Nice town and awesome park... would absolutely stay again
Jun 24, 2022 · Chanda SmithThey are so concerned about weather you paid or not. Had 2 different people come ask. They should put some of that effort into cleaning the showers and bathrooms…… it was gross! We pay weekly btw and had to move from a full hookup site for the weekend into the middle of a softball field and a soccer field this is what brought me to the shower house…. We will be exploring options today. It’s a small campground so cleaning the facilities should not be a problem! I can handle a lot of things but not gross floors and walls. I mean gross 🤮
Jul 31, 2021 · Shelley B.Found this place by accident, but was well worth the stay. Where we live we don't have lightening bugs, so my son had never seen them before, but this place came alive with them when it got dark. Not sure how much it cost to stay in a camper or RV, since we stayed in Tent. However the tent spaces are really reasonable. It is in a public park, but still has electricity and water in the camper spaces and electricity in the tent spaces.
