Little Bass Lake Campground Introduce
For Michiganders yearning for a true escape into the wild, where peace and solitude reign supreme, Little Bass Lake Campground offers an unparalleled experience. Nestled in the heart of the Upper Peninsula near Manistique, this campground is now a cherished part of Michigan's dispersed camping system. If you're a local seeking a quiet retreat from the hustle and bustle, where the sounds of nature replace everyday noise and stargazing becomes a nightly ritual, Little Bass Lake is your ideal destination. It's perfectly suited for those who appreciate a more rustic, intimate connection with the outdoors, whether you're an avid angler, a passionate paddler, or simply someone who craves the profound quiet of the wilderness.
Little Bass Lake Campground is situated in the beautiful vicinity of Manistique, MI 49854, USA. As part of Michigan's dispersed camping system, it offers a more secluded and less developed camping experience compared to traditional campgrounds. While the exact driving accessibility within the Manistique area isn't detailed, the nature of dispersed camping often implies a journey away from major towns to reach these quiet havens. It's important for potential campers to note that this is not a "walk-on" campground; reservations are required and must be made online, underscoring its managed yet remote character. This reservation system helps maintain the serene environment by controlling the number of visitors, thus ensuring that the sense of peace and solitude, highly praised by visitors, remains intact. The presence of a "really unimproved carry-in boat launch" and a "steep bank with crosstie steps" at Site #5 indicates that while lakeside access is available, it caters more to those prepared for a more rugged approach, such as with canoes or kayaks using portage wheels. This level of accessibility contributes to the quiet and undisturbed nature of the campground, attracting those who truly wish to get away from it all.
While Little Bass Lake Campground embraces a more rustic and minimalist approach to camping, it still offers essential services that enhance the dispersed camping experience:
- Online Reservation System: Reservations are required and managed online, ensuring regulated access and preventing overcrowding, which contributes significantly to the campground's quiet atmosphere.
- Designated Campsites: There are five designated campsites, offering structure within the dispersed camping framework. This helps maintain the natural environment while providing clear areas for campers.
- Unimproved Carry-In Boat Launch: A basic, unimproved launch is available for canoes and kayaks, facilitating access to the lake for paddling enthusiasts.
- Direct Lake Access from Sites: Certain sites, like Site #5, offer convenient walking distance to the boat launch or even direct access to beaching a canoe or kayak at the site itself for the duration of a stay.
- Privacy Considerations: While some sites (specifically 4 & 5) are noted as being "REALLY close," guests have reported no trouble with privacy, suggesting that the overall quiet and low occupancy contribute to a sense of seclusion.
The true allure of Little Bass Lake Campground lies in its unique features and highlights, which cater specifically to those seeking tranquility and a deep connection with nature:
- Exceptional Peace and Solitude: Visitors consistently rate the peace and solitude at 9.5 out of 10, making it an ideal choice for campers who prioritize quiet reflection and escape from noise.

Little Bass Lake Campground Reviews
Little Bass Lake campground is now a part of Michigan's dispersed camping system. No walk-ons, reservations required online. Five Sites here with sites 4 & 5 REALLY close, like 100' close, but no one was at any of the sites except me.Site #5 is scenic, nice and walking distance close to the really unimproved carry in boat launch. Or if you're good walking a steep bank with crosstie steps you can launch from site 5. My advice, use portage wheels to the launch for your canoe or kayak, then beach it at your site for the duration of your stay.Lake is scenic, fishing is very good, and the peace & solitude gets a 9.5 out of 10.
Sep 17, 2024 · Bruce ConnerA nice, small, quiet campground with a very beautiful lake at the edge of the campground. There were many frogs and at night we could hear loons calling to each other, it was dreamy. The campsites we're fairly close together at this campground, but we didn't have any trouble with privacy or our neighbors. Pricing was great, would camp here again!
Jun 27, 2022 · Lacey EngleIf you love remote, this is the place for you. Sites 1 and 4 are a bit more private, but all are well kept! Even our 2 cats loved it!
Sep 04, 2024 · Rebecca DoheOne of our favorite rustic campgrounds! We reserved 2 sites for a week. So remote and quiet. Being right on the lake made for beautiful sunrises and sunsets and the location was perfect for exploring munising and manistique as well as many lakes and trails in the Stueben area. We already have plans to return this summer.
