What is worth choosing
Hearthstone Point Campground’s enduring appeal, despite recent concerns about maintenance, is rooted in its unique and highly desirable location. For New Yorkers looking for a classic Adirondack experience, it is an ideal choice for several key reasons. First and foremost is the direct access to Lake George. Being able to walk from your campsite to the water's edge is a significant advantage, providing opportunities for swimming, fishing, and simply enjoying the breathtaking views without having to drive anywhere. This lakeside convenience is the primary reason many campers return year after year, overlooking any potential shortcomings in other areas. The ability to easily get onto the lake for boating or other water sports is a major draw.
The second major factor is the campground's proximity to Lake George Village. This is what truly sets Hearthstone Point apart from more remote campgrounds. Campers get the best of both worlds: the tranquility of a lakeside setting and the fun, entertainment, and convenience of a nearby tourist hub. Families can spend their days hiking or relaxing by the water and then take a quick trip into the village for dinner, mini-golf, or a boat tour. This convenience makes the camping experience more versatile and appealing to a wider range of people.
Furthermore, the friendly and accommodating staff are a consistent highlight for visitors. Despite what might be limited resources, they are praised for their welcoming attitude and hard work, which makes a significant difference in the overall camping experience. Their personal touch helps to maintain the sense of community and tradition that so many long-time campers value. The campground's pet-friendly policy also makes it a great choice for those who want to bring their furry friends along for the adventure. While some sites may be small and facilities may be dated, the core value of Hearthstone Point remains in its scenic location, unparalleled accessibility, and the nostalgic, traditional camping atmosphere it provides. For those who understand and appreciate the charm of a classic state park, it remains a quintessential New York camping destination.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Heartstone Point has deteriorated and not attended, too. The grounds are terrible, Fireplaces are not in the best of shape. Sites are small. I've been coming to Heartstone Point for the last 50 years, and I can not believe how bad this campsite has deteriorated so much. This used to be a great campground, absolutely no maintenance. It's a shame the State would allow this to happen. The state needs to investigate management at this site and do a walk through with the staff!
June 03 · Tammy RussellWe have been coming to this campsite several times a year for the past decade and while it remains a favorite, because of its location right outside the Village of Lake George and the water access from the park, it feels like the grounds and facility maintenance has steadily gone downhill the last few years. We always stay on the loop closest to the lake where the bathrooms are a bit older (there were supposed to have been remodeled along with the others), the age of the bathrooms would not be an issue if they were even remotely clean, there was mold in the sink and NO hand soap, another camper left some in there but when that was finished there was no other soap provided, luckily toilet paper was always readily available and we had soap at our site. The staff is super friendly and doing the best that they can but it feels as if New York State has no interest in funding its parks. We will continue to visit but will pack extra supplies for cleanliness
July 08 · Adrienne CostanzoWe stayed at Hearthstone Point after a couple of concerts at SPAC. Easy access from I-87, yet far enough away that you don't hear it.The campsites are close together, but there are some really nice ones. Some are tiny and kind of sloped (almost seemingly squeezed in as an afterthought), and others are huge and flat. We booked one of the former and asked if we could switch upon arrival during a busy weekend. Sara at check in was phenomenal! She checked us in and let us scope out the available sites and swap. So easy! Sara is the best!!Restrooms are basic but clean. We didn't use the showers or visit the beach. Overall, a comfortable place at a great value to spend a night or two!!
September 08 · Melissa GreenawaltWe went for americade. It was great even with the rain. I would definitely stay further in from the main rd though
June 02 · chad nimonsThe worst campground I’ve ever stayed at. The staff was friendly, but that is the only nice thing I could say about it. The bathrooms were filthy. Half of the showers were not working and the other half only had intermittent hot water. All of the campgrounds were extremely cramped, uneven, and rocky. The campgrounds themselves are laid out very poorly, and the lake access is only a small uncared for beach. Will not be staying here again. So many other campsites that looked nicer around the Lake George area.
