East Sidney Lake Campground

4659 State Highway 357,, Franklin, NY 13775, USA

Well, it was inexpensive. We were traveling through the area and have always had luck at Corps of Engineer campsites before. We were given a "site" in the parking lot. She said it would be easier to set up and take down there. Had water and electric. Neighboring site had several cars and a small motorhome, but extra car's intruded on were I needed to set up. Water hose was stretched to the max. I could just barely unhook the 5th wheel to level my RV. This is primarily set up for seasonal camping. I would not recommend it for travelers. - Karl Zarins

Services Offered

  • Campsites with Hookups: The campground offers sites with electric hookups, and some sites also include water. There are reportedly 85 RV sites with electric hook-ups and 14 tent sites. It's noted that some sites can accommodate motorboats.
  • Drinking Water: Drinking water is available at the campground, though one review mentions that it might need to be boiled in certain instances, which is a point to clarify upon arrival or when booking.
  • Bathrooms: Restrooms are available at the campground for public use.
  • Picnic Tables and Fire Rings: Each site is equipped with a picnic table, and many (if not all) also include fire rings for outdoor cooking and campfires.
  • Boat Launch: An accessible boat launch is available, making it easy for campers to get their watercraft into East Sidney Lake for boating, kayaking, canoeing, and jet skiing.
  • Beach Access: The campground features a sandy beach, providing a designated area for swimming and relaxation.
  • Waste Management: While not explicitly detailed, campgrounds typically provide designated areas for trash disposal, which is part of maintaining a clean environment.
  • Camping by Season or Day: The campground offers flexible reservation options, allowing visitors to book sites by the day, month, or season, catering to both short-term travelers and long-term campers.

Features / Highlights

East Sidney Lake Campground offers several features and highlights that draw visitors, particularly those interested in lake-based activities and a scenic setting. However, it's essential to balance these with some common points of feedback from campers.

  • Picturesque Lake Setting: The campground is situated on East Sidney Lake, offering scenic views, especially picturesque sunsets over the dam. The lake itself is a central feature for recreational activities.
  • Water-Based Activities:
    • Boating: An accessible boat launch allows for motorboating, kayaking, canoeing, and jet skiing on the lake.
    • Fishing: East Sidney Lake is popular for fishing, with various species like largemouth and smallmouth bass, common carp, and yellow perch.
    • Swimming Beach: A sandy beach and volleyball court provide opportunities for swimming and beach activities.
  • Wildlife Viewing: The area is home to bald eagles and other wildlife, offering opportunities for nature observation.
  • Family Activities: The park offers "weekend family activities" and includes a playground for younger visitors, suggesting a family-friendly atmosphere.
  • Flexible Camping Options: The availability of daily, monthly, and seasonal campsites caters to different types of campers, from weekend adventurers to those looking for a longer stay.
  • Corps of Engineers Association: As an Army Corps of Engineers site, it often implies a certain standard of natural beauty and general maintenance, though management is leased to the Town of Sidney.

It is important to note concerns raised in some reviews, particularly for transient campers:

  • Primary Focus on Seasonal Camping: Some reviews suggest the campground is "primarily set up for seasonal camping," which can impact the experience for short-term visitors, especially regarding site assignments. One review mentioned being given a "site" in a parking lot, which was "not a campsite but electric and water on the side of the road."
  • Site Space and Configuration: Issues with neighboring cars intruding on space, water hoses stretched to the max, and difficulty leveling RVs indicate that some sites, particularly for transient campers, may be less ideal or more challenging to set up.
  • Drinking Water Quality: A review noted "not drinking water unless you boiled it," which is a significant concern and should be verified with the campground directly.
  • Overall Impression: Terms like "very depressing" from transient campers suggest that the experience for those passing through might differ significantly from the positive experiences of seasonal residents or those who fully utilize the lake's amenities.

Promotions or Special Offers

Publicly available information for East Sidney Lake Campground does not extensively detail ongoing promotions or special offers in the typical sense (e.g., "buy one night, get one free"). However, as a campground that offers daily, monthly, and seasonal rates, the pricing structure itself can be considered a form of value proposition, especially for those seeking longer stays. Seasonal rates are generally more cost-effective per night than daily rates for extended periods.

For specific rate information, including any potential senior discounts (as some Corps of Engineers parks offer), or group rates for larger parties, it is best to directly contact East Sidney Lake Campground. Their website or phone inquiry would provide the most up-to-date pricing and any specific deals available for particular dates or lengths of stay. Given the feedback about site assignments for transient campers, it would also be prudent to inquire about the nature of available sites for shorter reservations to manage expectations.
