I have been in this campground for 19 years. During that time it has been sold 4 time and every time it gets more and more neglected.. There are really no amenities there other then the pond. Grounds are not kept mowed as they should. Campers are allowed to be run down, roads through are in bad shape. It’s just sad to watch things go down hill. - Barb Hagberg

Cedar Springs Campground Introduce

For many Wisconsinites, finding a place that feels like a home away from home, or even a permanent home for their RV, is a key part of enjoying our state’s beautiful outdoors. Cedar Springs Campground in New Lisbon, Wisconsin, has been a long-standing fixture in the local camping scene. While some campgrounds focus on short-term vacationers, Cedar Springs appears to cater significantly to those looking for a more extended stay, offering seasonal spots for their campers. This article aims to provide you, our fellow locals, with a clear, engaging, and factual overview of Cedar Springs Campground, exploring its location, known amenities, and, importantly, recent feedback from those who know it best – its long-term residents.

The appeal of Wisconsin's natural landscapes is undeniable, and for many, an RV or a seasonal camper provides the perfect way to embrace it. Cedar Springs Campground, nestled in the scenic area of New Lisbon, has a history spanning nearly two decades under various ownerships. Understanding the current state of a campground is essential for prospective visitors. While some aspects of its history suggest a decline in maintenance, as noted by a long-term resident, it continues to serve as a home for many. This overview will delve into the factual elements of the campground, from its precise address and accessibility to the services it provides, acknowledging both its strengths and areas highlighted for improvement, to give you a balanced perspective for your potential visit.

Location and Accessibility

Cedar Springs Campground is located at 7046 WI-58 Trunk, New Lisbon, WI 53950, USA. This address places it directly on State Highway 58, ensuring clear and straightforward access for vehicles of all sizes, including large RVs. New Lisbon is a community in Juneau County, situated in Central Wisconsin, an area known for its recreational offerings and natural beauty.

The campground's position provides relatively good accessibility from various parts of Wisconsin. It's within a reasonable driving distance of major population centers and popular tourist destinations. For example, it's roughly an hour's drive from La Crosse and Madison, and a bit further from Wausau and Oshkosh. This makes it a convenient spot for Wisconsinites looking for a long-term base or a seasonal retreat without an excessively long journey. Its proximity to Highway 58 also offers direct routes to larger lakes like Castle Rock Lake and Buckhorn State Park, which are key attractions in the region for fishing, boating, and other outdoor activities. While it maintains a sense of being "close enough to town" for conveniences like a gas station out front, it also provides access to the broader natural landscape that central Wisconsin offers.

Services Offered

Based on available public information and customer reviews, Cedar Springs Campground offers a range of services primarily catering to RV campers, with a significant focus on seasonal and extended stays.

  • RV Sites: The campground offers approximately 59 to 60 RV sites, with options for 30 Amp and 50 Amp electrical service. Many of these are designated for extended or seasonal stays.
  • Full Hookups: Full hookup sites (water, electric, sewer) are available, crucial for long-term RV living.
  • Pull-Through Sites: Some pull-through sites may be available for easier access for larger rigs.
  • Pond with Swimming Beach: There is a pond on the property that includes a swimming beach, offering a place for recreation and cooling off.
  • Fishing: The pond or nearby waters provide opportunities for fishing.
  • Restrooms and Hot Showers: Basic facilities including restrooms and hot showers are available.
  • Dump Station: A dump station is on-site for RV waste disposal.
  • Playground: A playground is typically available for children.
  • General Store/Convenience Store: The presence of a "gas station out front" suggests a convenience store or general store on the premises or immediately adjacent, providing easy access to essentials.
  • Pets Welcome: The campground generally allows pets, though specific rules and restrictions (e.g., leash requirements, pet fees) would apply. (Note: one source states "No Tents" and "Pets Welcome" which implies a focus on RVs and pet-friendly policies for those units.)
  • Firepits and Picnic Tables: Individual sites generally include firepits/fire rings and picnic tables for outdoor enjoyment.

However, it is important to acknowledge that reviews mention that "There are really no amenities there other then the pond" and that the "Grounds are not kept mowed as they should." This suggests that while basic infrastructure is present, the upkeep and range of recreational amenities might not be as extensive or well-maintained as some campers might expect.

Features / Highlights

Cedar Springs Campground offers several features that define its character and appeal, particularly for those seeking a long-term or seasonal camping solution in New Lisbon, Wisconsin.

  • Primary Focus on Seasonal/Long-Term Stays: A significant highlight is its role as a residential or extended-stay campground. Reviews directly state, "I live here," indicating that many campers consider this their primary or long-term residence. This fosters a unique community atmosphere among residents.
  • On-Site Pond for Recreation: The presence of a "pond" with a "swimming beach" is a notable feature, providing an immediate recreational amenity for residents, especially during warmer months. Fishing opportunities are also available.
  • Convenient Adjacency to a Gas Station/Store: The benefit of "having the gas station out front" is a practical highlight. This provides easy access to fuel, basic supplies, and potentially a convenience store, which is highly convenient for daily needs without having to drive into town.
  • Quiet Environment: Despite some concerns about maintenance, the campground is described as "Quiet." For those seeking a peaceful living environment away from constant tourist traffic, this can be a significant advantage.
  • Friendly Community: The feedback that "People are friendly too" suggests a welcoming and amiable atmosphere among residents, which is a crucial aspect of any long-term community.
  • Accessibility to Area Attractions: While specific amenities within the campground might be limited, its location offers easy access to popular Wisconsin attractions. It is close to Castle Rock Lake and Buckhorn State Park, providing opportunities for boating, fishing, and outdoor exploration. It's also within a reasonable drive of the Wisconsin Dells, offering diverse entertainment options.

It is important to provide a balanced view by acknowledging recent customer feedback regarding certain aspects. Reviews mention that the "Grounds are not kept mowed as they should," "Campers are allowed to be run down," and "roads through are in bad shape." These observations suggest a decline in overall maintenance and oversight of the property, which could impact the perceived quality of the living environment. The sentiment that "it's just sad to watch things go down hill" indicates a concern from long-standing residents about the park's upkeep over time.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals

For residents across Wisconsin, Cedar Springs Campground in New Lisbon presents a unique proposition, particularly for those seeking a long-term or seasonal home for their RV. Its primary suitability for locals lies in its function as a stable residential community, rather than a transient vacation spot. However, it is essential for prospective local residents to be fully aware of the significant concerns raised by long-term campers regarding declining maintenance. While the community atmosphere and convenience are positives, these maintenance issues are important considerations for anyone planning a long-term stay.

In summary, Cedar Springs Campground is most suitable for Wisconsinites who prioritize a permanent or seasonal RV living arrangement, value a sense of community, and appreciate the convenience of its location. It's a place that serves as a home for many, but potential residents should conduct a thorough visit and direct inquiry to assess the current maintenance standards and ensure the environment meets their specific long-term living expectations.
