Big Bull Creek Youth Campground Introduce
For anyone in Kansas looking for a prime location to host a group camping event, Big Bull Creek Youth Campground is a top-tier choice. Tucked away with a "remote feel," yet conveniently close to the city, this campground provides an exceptional environment for a variety of gatherings, from family reunions to youth group outings like Cub Scout or Boy Scout events. The design of the campground, with its large, open fields and well-defined camping pods, makes it a perfect setting for both structured activities and free-form exploration. It has been praised by visitors for its "excellent amenities" and the fact that it is a safe and well-equipped place for campers of all experience levels, including "less experienced campers" and children.
Big Bull Creek Youth Campground is a true gem in the Johnson County Park & Recreation District's system. It is specifically designed to accommodate organized groups, providing a dedicated space where everyone can gather comfortably. The amenities are a standout feature, offering a level of convenience that is not always found at primitive campgrounds. As one review noted, the presence of "clean and heated restrooms with flush toilets" is a major plus, making the experience far more comfortable. The large shelter with electrical receptacles is also a great resource, offering a communal space for meals or activities, regardless of the weather. While the campground is situated near I-35, and highway and train noise may be "noticeable on quiet nights," most visitors find it "not really bothersome," a small trade-off for the convenient access and overall peaceful atmosphere. The natural environment is a key part of the appeal, with abundant "wild life (bobcats, deers, turkeys, etc.)" and a stunning prairie landscape.
Big Bull Creek Youth Campground is located at 33532, 34298 W 213th St, Edgerton, KS 66021, USA. The drive is short and manageable, making it an excellent destination for a weekend or even a single-night camping trip. Accessibility is a key feature of this campground. It offers a wheelchair-accessible entrance and parking lot, ensuring that all members of a group can participate and enjoy the outdoors. The camping pods are flat and grassy, making them easy to navigate. While the parking lot is described as being on the "small side," visitors can use a wagon to carry their gear to the individual camping pods. This walk-in style contributes to the secluded feel of the camping areas, ensuring that the main pods are quiet and peaceful. The well-maintained trails are easy to follow, and the overall layout is designed for user-friendliness, making it a stress-free experience from arrival to departure.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Excellent campground for groups, especially Cub Scouts or other groups with less experienced campers. It has a remote feel, though close to the city. Excellent amenities including clean and heated restrooms with flush toilets, large fire ring, large open field, flag pole, large shelter with ample electrical receptacles, and good trails.A newly installed hammock structure is really exciting. It can fit a dozen hammocks! The only downside is the highway noise due to close proximity to I-35, especially noticeable on quiet nights.
October 08 · Matt KolinsGreat spot for cub scouts camping as a Pack. Fields and camping sites are flat in a grassy (cut short) area. Nice bathrooms and a shelter with lights and plenty of electricity access. There is a flag pole and a big fire ring. Other smaller fire rings around the campsites too. Pod 1 and 3 a little more isolated (more privacy) Pod2 nearest from bathroom and shelter. Nice hiking trails (1.25 miles loop that connect with other longer trails) for older kids, also nice mountain biking trails. We can hear highway and trains a little at night but not really bothersome. Lots of wild life (bobcats, deers, turkeys,.. ). Definitely would, recommend that spot for a pack family camping event or troop event. The parking is on the small side though and you will need a wagon to carry your stuff to the camping pods.
April 19 · Sebastien PichoffWe stayed at the youth campground area off of 213st. There was power at the very nice pavilion, two bathrooms were available (sink, toilet, and baby changing station), and the space was large enough to occomodate plenty of tents and there was still room for kids to play. Access to trails directly from camp was a nice bonus.
October 07 · brian haynes(Pod #1) Very nice campground. A nice pavilion w/ a dozen or so picnic tables, a pair of restrooms (well maintained, BTW) and a big field to accommodate a group of campers with nearby parking. Field is surrounded by wooded area. Saw skunks, raccoons and deer while were there. Also has easy access with lots of available hiking trails. Parking might get tight if all pods are being used, however.
August 29 · Chad MestelGreat site for group camping. 3 "pods" with fire rings and height adjustable fire grates for grilling. The pods provide flexibility so the grounds can accommodate very large groups or multiple smaller groups. Cost per pod por night is very within reason. The shelter has handicapped accessible picnic tables, tons of power outlets, and very bright lights. The restrooms are clean, have flushing toilets and running water. Flag pole for scout groups, and a huge fire ring. The open green space allows for all sorts of activities. Trails connect the camp grounds to the park, but it's a few miles to get from one to the other.
