Location and Accessibility
Bear River Lake Resort is strategically located at 40800 CA-88, Pioneer, CA 95666, USA. This address places it directly on State Route 88, a key scenic highway traversing California's Sierra Nevada mountain range. Its elevation of 6,000 feet ensures cooler temperatures during the summer months, making it a desirable escape from the heat of lower elevations, and provides access to winter recreational activities when conditions permit.
The direct access from CA-88 means that Bear River Lake Resort is remarkably accessible for California locals. This well-maintained state highway provides a relatively smooth and straightforward journey for most vehicles, including RVs and those towing boats or trailers. The drive itself is scenic, winding through beautiful forests and offering glimpses of the stunning mountain landscape, setting the stage for a true high-country experience.
While the resort offers a feeling of being "away from the city," it's not so remote that it lacks conveniences. Pioneer, a small community, is nearby and can offer limited supplies. However, it's always advisable for campers to bring the majority of their provisions. The ease of reaching the resort via a main state highway means less time navigating complex backroads and more time enjoying the beautiful destination. This excellent accessibility is a significant draw for Californians looking for a mountain getaway that doesn't involve an overly arduous journey.
Due to its high elevation, visitors should always check road conditions, especially during late fall, winter, and early spring, as CA-88 can be subject to snow closures. However, its status as "one of the first area resorts to open yearly" suggests efficient snow removal and preparation for the season.

May 06, 2025 · lisa noonanCamping resort burnt down 2 years ago but Rollingsmoke bbq was there with amazing food 12-7 and a band came from 5-8 had a amazing time
Jun 03, 2025 · Jarred BaileyWe did not camp and just took a day trip it was a very nice clean spot with easy river access and bathrooms.
Jun 21, 2025 · Anthony Munoz-FloresWe have been going to Bear River Resort for many years. Was extremely shocked at how the place in now being ran.Apparently, after the fire, the resort was sold. Now, there is a price increase as well as a resort fee!I wouldn't mind the price increase & resort fee if they updated and had clean restrooms & showers. We never take showers, and now we get charged for gross dirty showers. They looked like they hadn't been cleaned all summer. (Clothing hanging, several gross soap bars on floor & window, paper towels everywhere)The toliets were all backed up and plugged with feces.Extremely disappointed, and paid more for the grossness of the entire thing.Sadly, our annual Bear River Resort camping trip will now have to be relocated due to the new mismanagement of the facilities
