For Pennsylvanians seeking an authentic outdoor experience with a personal touch, Bear Ridge Campground in Templeton, PA, offers a rustic retreat amidst the natural beauty of Armstrong County. This campground provides a range of accommodations, from comfortable cabins to RV sites, and is particularly noted for its friendly and helpful owners who go the extra mile to ensure guests have a pleasant stay. While it boasts a charming, back-to-nature appeal, it's important for prospective visitors to be aware of the more rugged aspects of its terrain to fully appreciate what Bear Ridge has to offer.
Bear Ridge Campground & RV Resort is nestled within 70 acres of natural rolling hills and valleys, surrounded by beautiful wooded trails. Its mission is to preserve the natural beauty of its surroundings while providing guests with a safe, exciting, and memorable camping experience. For many, the highlight of their visit is the warm hospitality extended by the owners, who are consistently praised for being "absolutely lovely" and dedicated to their guests' comfort. This commitment to personal service helps create a welcoming atmosphere that encourages repeat visits, with some guests returning to their favorite cabin year after year. The campground offers a blend of rustic charm and essential amenities, aiming to provide a true escape into nature without sacrificing the comforts that make a camping trip enjoyable. While some aspects of the infrastructure may present challenges for larger vehicles, the overall experience is often defined by the peaceful setting, the opportunity for outdoor activities, and the genuine care from the campground's proprietors.
Bear Ridge Campground is located at 345 Mt Trails Rd, Templeton, PA 16259, USA. This address places it in a serene, somewhat secluded area of Armstrong County, a region of Pennsylvania characterized by its picturesque landscapes and abundant outdoor opportunities. For many Pennsylvanians, particularly those in the western part of the state, Templeton is a relatively accessible destination. From major urban centers like Pittsburgh, the drive typically takes around 1.5 to 2 hours, making it a viable option for weekend getaways or longer vacation stays.
However, it is important for potential visitors to note that the approach to the campground may involve navigating unpaved or less-maintained roads, as highlighted in some guest reviews. The specific mention of "horrible roads" to and within the campground, along with "awkward angle" access points for RVs, suggests that drivers, particularly those with larger rigs, should exercise caution and be prepared for potentially uneven terrain. While the setting offers a true immersion in nature, ensuring a peaceful and quiet environment, this rustic charm comes with the practical consideration of road conditions. Despite these logistical aspects, the serene location offers a genuine escape, allowing visitors to disconnect and enjoy the tranquility of the Pennsylvania countryside. Guests should plan their route carefully and consider arriving during daylight hours to better navigate the access roads.
RV Sites: Bear Ridge Campground offers spacious RV sites equipped with water, electric (20-50 amp), and sewage hook-ups. Live Music Events: On select dates, the campground hosts live music, such as tribute bands (e.g., Motley Crue tribute), creating an energetic atmosphere, often with a cover charge for non-campground members.
Pet-Friendly Policy: Pets are allowed at RV and tenting sites, and in designated "pet-friendly" cabins, subject to specific policies and deposits. This allows many visitors to bring their beloved companions along.

Scenic Spring-Fed Lake: The 18-acre spring-fed lake, stocked with fish like bass and trout, is a major draw for anglers and provides a beautiful focal point for relaxation and water activities.
Varied Recreational Amenities: With a playground, sports courts (Gaga pit, horseshoes, tetherball, volleyball), and wooded trails for hiking/biking, there are ample opportunities for both active and passive recreation for all ages.
Events and Entertainment: The presence of a pavilion and scheduled events, including live music and themed activities, adds a layer of organized fun and community engagement to the camping experience.
Rustic and Natural Setting: Spread across 70 acres of rolling hills and forests, the campground offers a genuine escape into nature, appealing to those who appreciate a less manicured and more authentic outdoor environment.

Bear Ridge Campground Reviews
Roads to get to the campground are horrible and the roads to access the campground are even worse. They have an awkward angle and not rv friendly. Cell service for Verizon is virtually non existent. Stayed with a large group and had power issues where the main breaker kept tripping. Park is not able to handle many large rigs in the pond area. Site was very unlevel and had no gravel, so trailer did not have a solid base to level. In general the park really needs some attention. Owner is very friendly and helpful. We camped at Bear Ridge in a Fifth Wheel.
Aug 13, 2024 · Pedal PowerWe stay in cabin 10 at Bear Ridge at least for once, sometimes twice a year. It’s adorable, comfortable, and so much fun! The owners are absolutely lovely and go out of their way to take care of us every time.❤️
Mar 31, 2024 · Kimberly BrockwayWonderful, peaceful place with great views. The Armstrong Trails are nearby and my wife and I were able to enjoy two days of biking on these beautiful rail trails along the Allegheny River. Staff is very friendly and we enjoyed our time here.
Jul 14, 2023 · Dave DownerWe love coming to Bear Ridge! We come every year and sometimes twice if we can. It's beautiful and very peaceful. The owners and other staff are very welcoming.
Jun 11, 2024 · Melissa DickinsonThe intital site we had secured, there was no way we could have fit, thankfully they offered another one as it wasn't busy. The in and out with a big camper is not fun, absolutely take your time and watch your bed sides. Like others have said, bring additional leveling blocks, you'll need them. We enjoyed the quiet and it is a nice place, but the seasonal campers seem to be clicky and don't speak to you even when you say hello, never been at a place like that. There is little to no phone service, was told there was no wifi, but all the seasonal people were streaming and scrolling away. There was a router that came up BRguest, but they said they're was no wifi. But all in all, it wasn't a bad experience. Thanks for the weekend.
