The concept of "ocean camping" takes on a new meaning here, with many sites offering direct views of the Pacific, making it feel "like having it in your back yard," even though it's conveniently located just across the street from the beach. This blend of accessibility and stunning natural scenery is what makes Surf Outpost a highly sought-after destination for Californians. Surf Outpost - Malibu Campground is strategically located at 25801 Pacific Coast Hwy, Malibu, CA 90265, USA. This highly desirable address places the RV park directly on the legendary Pacific Coast Highway (PCH), a scenic route synonymous with California's coastal charm. Its position on a bluff offers most sites an elevated perspective, providing campers with spectacular, unobstructed views of the Pacific Ocean and stunning sunsets.
The accessibility of Surf Outpost is one of its most significant advantages. Being right on PCH means easy navigation for RVs of all sizes, including "XL spots" that can accommodate trailers up to 40ft or more. This direct road access simplifies arrivals and departures, making it a convenient stop for those traveling along the California coast or seeking a weekend escape from nearby Los Angeles and Ventura counties. Despite being on a major highway, many visitors note that the unique layout and tiered design of the park (with RVs typically on the first two levels and tent camping on the third) help to mitigate road noise, particularly for sites not directly fronting the highway.
Beyond road access, the campground boasts exceptional proximity to the beach, often described as being "right across the street." This easy walking distance to the sand allows campers to fully immerse themselves in the Malibu beach experience, whether it's for sunbathing, swimming, or simply enjoying the ocean breeze. Furthermore, a "nice little walking trail also right behind my spot" enhances local accessibility for leisurely strolls or more vigorous hikes. For those who enjoy culinary delights, Malibu Seafood, a historic local staple, is only a 2-minute walk away, providing convenient access to fresh seafood.
The location also serves as an excellent base for exploring the wider Malibu area and beyond. World-class surf spots, iconic beaches like Zuma and Surfrider, and various hiking trails in the Santa Monica Mountains, including the Corral Canyon Loop (accessible directly from the park) and the iconic Backbone Trail, are just minutes away. This combination of effortless access, stunning views, and proximity to Malibu's prime attractions makes Surf Outpost an ideal choice for a coastal California adventure.

Surf Outpost - Malibu Campground is undeniably suitable for locals in the California region, particularly those seeking an exceptional RV or camping experience that seamlessly blends coastal beauty with convenient amenities. Firstly, for Californians who own RVs or enjoy tent camping, Surf Outpost offers a coveted opportunity for oceanfront living that is otherwise often inaccessible or prohibitively expensive in Malibu. The park's tiered design ensures that many sites provide "a better view of the ocean," allowing residents to enjoy the stunning Pacific coastline without the commitment of traditional real estate. Secondly, the strategic location directly on the Pacific Coast Highway, combined with easy access to the beach, offers unparalleled convenience. Locals can easily drive their RVs to the park and immediately enjoy beach activities, walking trails, and nearby Malibu attractions. This accessibility from major Southern California urban centers means less travel time and more time spent enjoying the natural beauty and recreational opportunities that Malibu provides. The proximity to local dining, like Malibu Seafood, also adds to the ease and enjoyment of a stay.
Thirdly, the comprehensive range of services and amenities, from full hookups for RVs to clean restrooms, a general store, and even a dog park, ensures a comfortable and hassle-free experience. These conveniences mean that Californians can truly relax and enjoy their time outdoors without compromising on essential comforts. The "exceptionally nice and very helpful" staff further enhances the welcoming and professional atmosphere, making visitors feel at home.
Finally, the unique blend of natural beauty (ocean views, walking trails), recreational opportunities (beach access, surfing, hiking), and historical elements (the overall Malibu ambiance) makes Surf Outpost a multifaceted destination. It caters to families, couples, and solo travelers alike, providing an enriching experience that goes beyond mere camping. For Californians who appreciate outdoor adventure coupled with a touch of luxury and prime location, Surf Outpost - Malibu Campground stands out as a premier choice for creating lasting memories by the sea.

Surf Outpost - Malibu Campground Reviews
Decided to try ocean camping. Cool part is , is that my camper is facing the ocean. It’s like having it in your back yard. Even though it’s right across the street. Nice little walking trail also right behind my spot. It’s a little illuminatedat night time. The store is really pretty neat. They have some unique items especially in the spices. So yes, I bought some. Staff has been exceptionally nice and very helpful. I took a walk throughout the park. Looks as though the first two levels are for rvs and the 3rd one is tent camping. The overviews are beautiful. Down on the ground level they have some spots together with chairs, lights, picnic tables, area to play bags. Looks like a real nice area to chill. My trailer is 40ft so they do have XL spots. Not to sure how many. I got lucky and got a really nice spot. Some things are open in Malibu and this campground is one of them. I would visit them again. Thanks for a wonderful stay:)
Jul 05, 2025 · Rachel DownsGreat place & people. A little pricey, but you won't get a better view of the ocean, it is well worth it . The restrooms & showers are nice & clean. They also have a camp store. We will go back 😁.
Jun 03, 2025 · Susan TheisenBeware of their cancellation policy. I booked a campsite on Hipcamp with them. Their cancellation policy was listed “super strict” but did not give any clarifications of what this meant. I booked my site which was a tent only site for $125. Now I do take responsibility for this part- it said you could have 1 vehicle but what I didn’t realize was you could not have it next to your actual site. You had to walk there. There are special reasons I need the car immediately next to me for this trip. I realized this mistake immediately after booking and cancelled it immediately (booked and canceled within 10 minutes). For this booking they refunded me $50!! I emailed the company explained my situation and they still refused to give me a full refund. I in no way prevented them from ever loosing a potential booking at this site. It was an honest mistake that was immediately rectified yet they had no sympathy for the situation and felt they deserved to keep $65 dollars for this 10 minute mistake. It’s an action that may just roll off their shoulders but actually effects me. GREED!! Have some decency.
Jun 18, 2025 · Sarah DohertyWe’ve been loyal visitors to Surf Outpost RV Park since the rebrand—my girlfriend, our two dogs, and I have loved staying here for the epic views, the good vibes, and the convenient location just minutes from First Point Malibu. The general store is always well-stocked and the overall energy of the place has made it a favorite local getaway for us.After the fires, we were especially eager to return and support the business. We called ahead, booked our spot as usual, and made the trip out—only to be turned away upon arrival because our GMC Safari apparently no longer qualifies as an RV. This was surprising and frustrating, especially since we’ve stayed there multiple times before with the same vehicle and weren’t informed of any policy change when we made our reservation. There was no mention of it on the website either. The front desk staff were kind and apologetic, but unfortunately, the male owner was dismissive and unhelpful, which really soured the experience. We totally respect a business updating its rules, but clearer communication and a bit more understanding would have gone a long way.We genuinely hope Surf Outpost continues to thrive—we just hope they improve how they communicate changes to their guests moving forward.
Apr 20, 2025 · Rama McCabeThis place could be so cool. And honestly, the operator is doing all that they can. Clean, great communication, sweet little store with quality food etc. The problem is you might as well be camping next to the 405 fwy. We were in the premium sites closest to the ocean and the road noise is deafening. It decreases around 10pm but the rest of the time, it's cars cars cars. Again, great spot but the traffic kills it
