Sun Outdoors Islamorada is an exceptional choice for locals in Florida, especially those seeking a luxurious and convenient escape to the iconic Florida Keys. For Floridians, the Keys represent a quintessential part of their state's identity, and this resort offers a prime opportunity to experience them from the comfort of their RV. The drive down the Overseas Highway is an adventure in itself, leading to a destination that truly feels like a world away, yet remains within reasonable reach for many in the state.
The resort's commitment to cleanliness and its well-maintained appearance are particularly appealing. Floridians appreciate quality and comfort, and the "super clean" park with its "beautiful and well maintained" grounds directly addresses these preferences. This allows locals to fully relax and enjoy their vacation without concerns about the environment around them.
Moreover, the centerpiece of Sun Outdoors Islamorada—the oceanfront pool—is a significant draw. For Floridians accustomed to beach and water activities, the ability to cool off in a pool while "staring off into the Atlantic Ocean" offers a unique and highly desirable amenity. This luxurious touch elevates the RV camping experience far beyond the ordinary, providing a resort-style feel that resonates with the Florida lifestyle.
While guests have expressed a desire for a dedicated dog park and noted the lack of alcohol service by the pool, these points are often minor in the face of the resort's overall appeal. The fact that guests are eager to return, with one even booking for 60 days in the winter, speaks volumes about the positive experience. For local RV owners, having such a high-quality, oceanfront option within their home state is invaluable. It provides a convenient, accessible, and consistently rewarding destination for family vacations, romantic getaways, or even just a peaceful retreat to enjoy the stunning natural beauty of the Florida Keys. Sun Outdoors Islamorada truly encapsulates the spirit of a dream Florida Keys getaway, making it an ideal choice for residents looking to explore and enjoy their own backyard.

Sun Outdoors Islamorada Reviews
Stayed here for 4 nights this June. Was hot but the pool did a great job of cooling things down. Nothing like being in the pool just staring off into the Atlantic Ocean. Park was super clean and sites were tight, but not too bad. I was able to easily back my Brinkley Z3400 into the site. Only downside I could find with this park was no daily trash pickup and the biggest letdown was no area for dogs. I fenced play area to let me get some energy out would have been awesome, or just even a clean dog area. You have to take your dog outside the resort on the thorn filled grassy area next to the roadway. Install a small dog park and I will come back every year and encourage others to do the same. We did manage to book it for 60 days this winter and and are super excited. Just hope someone reads this review and installs a small area for peoples furry companions. Thanks for the awesome experience.
Jul 04, 2025 · SHANE CAPEHEARTThis camp style resort is beautiful and well maintained. The resort sits right on the ocean and the ocean is visible from most of not all campsites. The pool is right on the water and it just screams vacation. The area for “play” is small, but it works with outdoor games for corn hole, connect four with pool and ping pong underneath the building. The laundry is reasonably priced and the area is clean. The park is clean clean and they pride themselves on that. There were a few things that disappointed us, but clearly not enough for us to not recommend to others. First, we didn’t like that we’d have to pay extra for wifi for our streaming services. Second, they don’t serve ANY alcohol or mixed drinks by the pool (why?) I know many guests spoke about this while at the pool. Third, there should be another dumpster on the far side of the campground.Again, we had a great family vacation and we are thankful to Erika and Bernadette for always being available.
Jun 20, 2025 · Tiffany SemeranoWe recently stayed at Sun Outdoors Islamorada and had a very mixed experience. The facilities are clean and well-maintained, but the grounds are another story. The beach—one of the main reasons we chose this location—was completely unusable. It was covered in dead seaweed, and the overpowering smell made spending time outdoors unpleasant. For a resort in such a beautiful location, it was a real disappointment. The layout of the sites is cramped—too closely spaced—and the utility hookups are positioned in a way that intrudes into what should be your patio space. This poor design leads to confusion about site boundaries, and management seems to allow guests to park across lines and even partially in the roadway. We have a big rig and had a difficult time getting into our site because a neighboring EV was parked beyond the unclear boundary and into the road. After finally parking with considerable effort, we left a polite note asking if they could move the vehicle to make our departure easier. That evening, we returned to find the neighbors drinking heavily, becoming belligerent and threatening. We chose to stay inside and avoid further conflict. Management came the next day but handled the situation poorly, taking the neighbors’ false accusations at face value—even after I explained we’re a mixed-race couple and that their claims made no sense. When I brought up their excessive drinking, I was told, “they’re on vacation,” and that public drunkenness is allowed. On departure day, the same guests blocked our path again—this time with a larger vehicle. Management eventually had to ask a neighbor across the street to move their truck so we could exit by turning the wrong way out of our site. While the amenities and setting have potential, the site layout, lax management, and tolerance for disruptive guest behavior make it hard to recommend—especially for shorter stays or anyone seeking a peaceful and respectful environment.
Jul 02, 2025 · Broke DadAmazing experience here at Sun outdoors Islamorada. We stayed in a beautiful spot in our 42’ Phaeton. Erica was very helpful and greeted us when we got here and even suggested great restaurants and nearby things to do! This place is incredibly dog friendly and tranquil. We had a wonderful time relaxing. Great music by the pool and an awesome café served from an airstream that was absolutely delicious! Don’t forget to try the biscuits and gravy! We will be back soon! Ask for Erica she will take good care of you!
Apr 17, 2025 · Liz McewenOverall the RV resort is very nice! BUT a little misleading… so much seaweed in water you cannot take advantage of any water activities except the pool! Kayaks and SUP cannot be used because no where to launch from! And you cannot swim at all! Their response is wait until Mother Nature solves the problem. That is not going to happen and the smell is ridiculously foul! The dog park is not a dog park…it’s grass in front of the entrance without a fence and full of burrs. So every morning and afternoon I spent time de-burring my dogs paws and sometimes face. They are very painful to a dogs paws and to humans. I had to cut them out of her fur. Not fun!! The dog park had fire ants as well which after being attacked my dog is now limping in pain. Prob will cost $250 vet bill. Needless to say we left our vacation early. I asked for a manager to return my call when notifying the office and have yet to receive one! You can do better Sun Outdoors!
