We booked a full hook-up site for 2 nights (concert weekend). We called to confirm that you could actually show up "after sunrise" to check-in and were told basically, yes...? We rolled in around 7:30am and no one really knew what was going on, why we were there, etc. But a few minutes later, Earl showed us where we could park and we were all good. The RV spots are not very level (we all seemed to have issues parking and setting up) and very close to each other. Luckily, the few campers there were spaced pretty far apart and we ended up with an amazing view of the mountains. There are a lot of full hook-up RV spots and I would imagine when they are mostly booked, it's a very tight squeeze with very close neighbors.Since no one was there to officially check us in when we arrived, we walked to the tent around noon to show all of our tickets (camping and shuttle for 2 people). They seemed genuinely annoyed by us. At one point, the woman just walked away from me and I had no idea what was going on. Turns out, she just went to go get her phone and we were, in fact, all done. K.The shuttle to and from the venue was great! We left on time, got dropped off right near the gate, and the bus was waiting for us right after the show was done. Great music, great vibes, and a wonderful driver! There is no store on site, most dogs are off leash, and people are there to party. These were not downsides for us, just something that is unlike other campgrounds.I can't wait to go back! Overall, it was a pretty awesome, unique experience... - Alicia Gryszkiewicz

Yasgur Road Introduce

For New Yorkers, the name "Yasgur Road" immediately evokes a powerful image of peace, music, and an iconic moment in history. More than just a name, Yasgur Road Campground in Bethel, NY, is located on the historic 100-acre homestead of Max Yasgur, the dairy farmer who hosted the legendary 1969 Woodstock Music and Art Festival. This campground offers a truly unique camping experience that blends the tranquility of the Catskill Mountains with a vibrant, communal atmosphere, especially during concert weekends and the annual Woodstock Reunion. It's a place where history comes alive, and the spirit of peace and music continues to resonate.

Yasgur Road Campground is not your typical quiet, family-oriented camping destination. While it offers a scenic natural setting, it is particularly known for its lively, party-friendly environment, especially when there are events at the nearby Bethel Woods Center for the Arts or during its own annual Woodstock Reunion. The campground embraces a philosophy of "peaceful, communal coexistence," drawing visitors who are eager to connect, enjoy music, and soak in the historic vibes. It provides various camping options, from full hook-up RV sites to tent camping in fields or even more secluded spots in the woods, catering to a diverse range of campers. Whether you're a music enthusiast, a history buff, or simply seeking an unforgettable and unique camping adventure, Yasgur Road offers an experience unlike any other in New York.

The location of Yasgur Road Campground is arguably its most compelling feature, steeped in rich history and natural beauty. Situated at 34 Yasgur Rd, Bethel, NY 12720, USA, the campground is literally on the original homestead of Max Yasgur, the site of the 1969 Woodstock Festival. This makes it an almost pilgrimage-like destination for fans of music history and counterculture.

Beyond its historical significance, the campground's setting in Bethel, within Sullivan County, places it in the heart of the scenic Catskill Mountains. This region of New York is known for its rolling hills, lush forests, and pristine lakes and rivers, offering a wide array of outdoor activities such as rafting, canoeing, and tubing on the scenic Upper Delaware River. The main attraction just under two miles away is the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, which includes the award-winning Museum at Bethel Woods and a world-class amphitheater that hosts numerous concerts and events throughout the season. The campground's proximity to Bethel Woods is a huge draw, often providing convenient shuttle services to and from concert venues, as noted by satisfied campers. Conveniently located off NY-17B, it's about 15 minutes from Monticello, a larger town that offers additional amenities and services. This blend of historical importance, natural beauty, and event accessibility makes Yasgur Road Campground a prime location for New Yorkers seeking a memorable getaway.

Yasgur Road Campground offers a variety of services designed to accommodate different camping styles and enhance the overall experience, particularly during event weekends.

  • Diverse Camping Options:
    • RV Full Hookup Sites: Available with water, electric (30 or 50 AMP), and sewer/waste connections, primarily located in the wooded camping area. These sites aim to provide modern conveniences.
    • Oversized RVs / No Hookup RVs: Designated spots for larger recreational vehicles that do not require utility connections.
    • Car Camping: Allows campers to set up their tents right next to their vehicles in designated field areas.
    • Tent Camping in the Woods: Offers a more primitive and immersive experience within the forested parts of the campground, without designated individual sites, allowing for a communal, free-form setup.
  • Restrooms and Showers: The campground provides access to restrooms and showers, ensuring basic sanitation and comfort for all campers. These facilities are generally maintained, though reviews can vary on cleanliness, especially during peak event times.
  • Shuttle Service to Bethel Woods: A highly valued service, especially during concert weekends, is the complimentary shuttle (sometimes affectionately called the "Hippie Bus") to and from the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts. This allows attendees to avoid concert traffic and parking hassles.
  • On-site Store (Variable Stock): While one review mentioned "no store on site," official information indicates a "well-stocked" store with essentials like ice and firewood (which is often required to be purchased on-site) during events. This may suggest the store's operation is primarily event-dependent.
  • Pet-Friendly: The campground is dog-friendly, allowing pets (with a maximum of two dogs per reservation) for an additional fee. It's noted that "most dogs are off leash," which indicates a relaxed atmosphere, though responsible pet ownership is expected.
  • Cooking Grills/Fire Pits: While car camping areas may come with cooking grills, the campground also allows above-ground fire pits for individual campsites, enhancing the traditional camping experience.
  • Event-Specific Amenities: During major events like the Woodstock Reunion, the campground features a stage with live music, a drum circle, and various vendors selling food, crafts, and souvenirs, creating a festival-like atmosphere.
  • 24/7 Friendly Campground Staff: Official information highlights the presence of staff to assist campers, even if initial check-in might sometimes be informal.

Yasgur Road Campground offers a truly distinctive set of features and highlights that make it a one-of-a-kind destination for New Yorkers, particularly those drawn to its rich history and vibrant event scene.

  • Historic Significance: The paramount highlight is its location on Max Yasgur's original homestead, the site of the 1969 Woodstock Festival. This provides an unparalleled historical connection and a deep sense of nostalgia and meaning for many visitors.
  • Event-Driven Atmosphere: The campground thrives on its connection to music and community events. It hosts the annual Woodstock Reunion, a commemoration of the '69 spirit with live music, vendors, and a drum circle. Its proximity to Bethel Woods Center for the Arts means it often transforms into a lively hub for concert-goers, creating a "party" atmosphere where "people are there to party."
  • Unique Stage & Drum Circle: Within the wooded camping area, there's an intimate stage featuring local and regional bands, and a dedicated drum circle area around a campfire, fostering communal music and connection.
  • Variety of Camping Experiences: From RV full hookups on gravel pads to car camping in open fields and more primitive tent camping in the woods, Yasgur Road caters to different preferences, each offering a distinct vibe. RV sites may be "very close to each other" but offer conveniences, while tent areas provide a "pretty cool experience with the stage in the woods."
  • Scenic Mountain Views: Despite the active atmosphere, campers can still enjoy "amazing view of the mountains," particularly from certain RV spots, grounding the experience in the beautiful Catskills.
  • Communal Vibes: The campground fosters a sense of camaraderie and connection among campers, making it feel "unique experience" where "people become family."
  • Proximity to Bethel Woods: Being less than two miles from New York State's number one amphitheater and the Museum at Bethel Woods, campers benefit from easy access to world-class entertainment and historical exhibits.
  • Dog-Friendly Policy: The allowance of dogs (with appropriate passes) makes it convenient for pet owners to bring their furry friends along for the adventure.

Yasgur Road Campground primarily operates on an event-driven basis, particularly around its annual Woodstock Reunion and concerts at Bethel Woods. Therefore, "promotions or special offers" are less about traditional discounts and more about the structured pricing for specific events and camping types.

  • Event-Specific Pricing: Camping during major events like the Yasgur Road Reunion will have specific pricing per day, per adult, with additional charges for add-ons like car or shuttle passes. These prices are set for the event duration.
  • "Welcome Home" Philosophy: While not a discount, the campground's ethos of "welcome home" (as noted by some unofficial sources) and emphasis on a family-like atmosphere can be seen as an ongoing "special offer" in terms of community and experience, rather than monetary savings.
  • Package Deals with Shuttle: The inclusion of shuttle service to Bethel Woods (often available as an add-on) can be seen as a value-add, saving campers the hassle and cost of concert parking and transportation.

All sales for tickets and reservations are generally final, with no refunds or exchanges, even for weather conditions or changes in personal plans. This policy is standard for event-focused campgrounds. To find out about specific event dates, pricing for camping, and any current offerings (such as included admission for two adults with a reservation during non-event times), prospective campers should always consult the official Yasgur Road Campground website and their ticketing partners.
