Workman Creek

Campground ★4.0

Young, AZ 85554, USA

4.0
We camped here years ago and was traveling back from a weekend in Young, AZ so we decided to stop and see the waterfalls. There are MANY waterfalls - not just one! And wild life too! The road follows the creek up and is narrow with limited pull-outs and is okay for 3/4 of the drive up but gets pretty treacherous the remaining 1/4. I'd highly recommend 4-wheel drive! There is a bridge that is somewhat questionable to travel over and it is pretty rocky. You can always park off to the side before reaching the last 1/4 and walk up to see the falls. They do not allow for overnight camping here any more - but daytime use is okay. - Paula Koszarek

Workman Creek Introduce

For Arizona's many outdoor lovers, discovering a location that offers stunning waterfalls and lush greenery is a true find. Workman Creek, situated near the town of Young, AZ, is one such place. While it may not be a traditional overnight campground anymore, its status as a day-use area makes it an ideal destination for a memorable day trip filled with hiking, sightseeing, and immersing yourself in a beautiful forest environment. This article is your guide to understanding the unique character of Workman Creek, a location that offers much more than a simple hike and is a testament to the diverse and hidden beauty of our state.

The reviews from visitors speak volumes about the appeal of Workman Creek. People are captivated by the scenery, the presence of multiple waterfalls, and the chance to see local wildlife. The area provides a stark contrast to the typical desert landscape, with a flowing creek and dense vegetation that makes it feel like a different world entirely. Whether you're a seasoned hiker or simply looking for a new place to explore with your family and pets, Workman Creek offers an experience that is both rewarding and refreshing. We’ll cover the key information you need to plan your visit, from the best way to get there to the unique features that make it so special.

From the rugged road leading to its core to the tranquil sounds of rushing water, every element of Workman Creek contributes to its charm. It's a place that invites you to leave the everyday behind and step into a natural wonderland. The following sections will provide all the factual details and practical tips to ensure your day at Workman Creek is as enjoyable and safe as possible.

Workman Creek is located in Young, AZ 85554, USA. The journey to the creek is a significant part of the experience. The main road leading up the creek is described as narrow with limited pull-outs, following the creek as you go. For the first three-quarters of the drive, the road is manageable for most vehicles. However, the last quarter of the drive becomes "pretty treacherous" and highly recommends a 4-wheel-drive vehicle. This is due to a questionable bridge and a rocky road section.

For those without a 4-wheel-drive vehicle, a great option is to park off to the side before this rough final section and walk the rest of the way. This allows you to still see the impressive waterfalls and enjoy the scenery without risking damage to your vehicle. This accessibility option ensures that anyone, regardless of their vehicle type, can experience the beauty of Workman Creek. The road itself is scenic, winding through the forest and giving you a sense of adventure even before you reach the main attractions.

The remote location and the challenging road at the final stretch serve to preserve the natural beauty of the area, as it limits the number of visitors and keeps the environment pristine. This makes the effort to get there all the more worthwhile for those seeking a more authentic, less-traveled outdoor spot.
