Woodside Campground is renowned for its beautiful scenery, providing a quintessential California coastal camping experience. Whether you're looking for a quiet retreat, a base for coastal hiking, or simply a place to enjoy the stunning ocean views, Woodside Campground delivers a genuine taste of California's renowned natural splendor.
For locals, this campground represents a convenient yet profoundly impactful escape. It’s a chance to breathe in the salty air, explore expansive beaches, and witness the dramatic interplay of land and sea. Despite its popularity, Woodside Campground manages to offer large, private campsites, ensuring a sense of personal space amidst its natural beauty. It's an ideal spot for those who appreciate the simpler pleasures of camping, from cozy campfires under the stars to invigorating walks along the shore, all within a reasonable drive for many California residents.
Woodside Campground is strategically located at 25050 CA-1, Jenner, CA 95450, USA. This address places it directly on California's scenic Highway 1, providing straightforward access for those traveling along the iconic coastal route. Its position in Jenner, a charming coastal community in Sonoma County, means it's nestled amidst the stunning landscapes of the Sonoma Coast State Park system.
For Californians, the drive to Woodside Campground is part of the experience. Highway 1 is celebrated for its breathtaking ocean views, winding roads, and dramatic cliffs. While the drive itself is enjoyable, it's important to be mindful of its winding nature, which can add to travel time. Given its coastal location, access is generally good, though travelers should always check for any seasonal road advisories, especially during inclement weather or after heavy rains.
The campground's proximity to the beach area is a significant highlight, offering easy access for hiking, photography, and exploring the shoreline. This close connection to the Pacific Ocean is a major draw for visitors. While the exact distance to the nearest beach access point from each campsite may vary, the general area is very much "beach close." The campground itself is situated within a beautiful natural setting, providing a sense of seclusion despite its popular location. However, it's worth noting that while some sites may experience sogginess after rain, as mentioned in reviews, this is typical for coastal camping and can be mitigated by choosing sites with more sun exposure or visiting during drier periods.
Woodside Campground provides essential services and amenities that enhance the camping experience, focusing on comfort and convenience while maintaining an outdoor atmosphere. These services are well-maintained and contribute significantly to the overall positive experience reported by visitors.
- Flush Toilets and Clean Restrooms: A major highlight for many campers, Woodside Campground offers flush toilets, a significant upgrade from pit or vault toilets found in more primitive campgrounds. Reviewers consistently praise the restrooms for being "clean enough for a campground," ensuring a more comfortable and hygienic experience.
- Potable Water Faucets: Faucets for potable water are conveniently "sprinkled throughout the campground." This ensures easy access to drinking water, though depending on your specific site, a short walk might be required. These faucets are distinctly marked with "tops painted like red mushrooms" for easy visibility.
- Communal Hand Washing Sinks: Just outside the bathrooms, communal hand washing sinks are available, providing an additional amenity for hygiene and convenience.
- Campsites with Picnic Tables, Food Boxes, and Firepits: Each campsite is well-equipped with fundamental camping necessities. A picnic table provides a dedicated space for meals and gathering, a food storage box (bear box) helps protect food from wildlife, and a firepit allows for campfires and cooking, essential for the camping experience.
- Wood and Kindling for Purchase: For campers who prefer not to bring their own firewood, bundles of wood and kindling are conveniently "available for purchase from camp host," making it easy to enjoy a campfire.
- Camp Host On-Site: The presence of a camp host contributes to the safety, organization, and assistance available at the campground. The camp host is typically available to answer questions, sell firewood, and address any immediate concerns.
Woodside Campground boasts several features and highlights that make it a compelling choice for campers along the California coast. These aspects contribute to its reputation as a desirable destination for both relaxation and outdoor adventure.
- Beautiful Scenery: The primary highlight is undoubtedly the "beautiful scenery." Situated along the rugged Sonoma Coast, the campground offers picturesque views of the surrounding natural landscape, including the majestic redwood forests and the expansive Pacific Ocean. This natural beauty creates a serene and inspiring environment for all visitors.
- Large and Private Campsites: Despite being a popular destination, reviewers emphasize that campsites are "large and private." This is a significant advantage, providing campers with ample space and a sense of seclusion, allowing for a more intimate and peaceful experience compared to cramped campground layouts.
- Very Close to Beach Area for Hiking and Picture Taking: The campground's proximity to the beach is a major draw. Visitors have "very close" access to the stunning coastal areas, perfect for invigorating hikes along the bluffs, exploring tide pools, and capturing breathtaking photographs of the Pacific Ocean and dramatic coastline.
- No Cell Coverage: For those genuinely seeking to disconnect and escape the demands of digital life, the "little to no cell coverage throughout the campground" is a significant feature. This encourages campers to fully immerse themselves in nature, fostering relaxation and a true break from screens and notifications. (Note: The closest Verizon coverage was at Gerstle Cove, and AT&T in Sea Ranch).
- Upper Woodside Loop Campground Specifics: For campers considering the Upper Woodside Loop, specific insights are provided. While generally beautiful, some sites (like 108) can be "narrow/compact and close together" with "little to no sun exposure." This detail is helpful for pre-booking, allowing campers to choose sites that best fit their preferences, especially regarding sun exposure and tent size.
- Suitable for Smaller Groups: The Upper Woodside sites are particularly recommended for "2-3 people with small to medium tents," especially after dry and warm weather. This practical advice helps campers set appropriate expectations based on their group size and gear.

Woodside Campground Reviews
Was a great camp area. Flush toilets, clean restrooms, campsites were large and private. Very close to beach area for hiking and picture taking
Oct 31, 2022 · Ken KendziorTL;DR-Beautiful Scenery-Smallish, close together campsites with picnic table, food box, and firepit-No Showers-Little to no cell coverage. This review is for the Upper Woodside Loop Campground, and campsite 108, which I camped in. (**Note: The California State Parks reservation website, does not provide a photo of campsite 108 for some reason, so the (2) photos of the campsite in this review are here for you to see.)--While campsite area is rather quite beautiful, most of the campsites, including 108, are rather quite narrow/compact and close together. Some of the sites have little to no sun exposure, so if it has rain recently the sites may be soggy - I noticed that some sites were blocked off due to this.-- **The bathroom facilities do not include showers** The bathrooms were clean enough for a campground. A communal hand washing sink is just out front from the bathrooms.--There are faucets for potable water sprinkled throughout the campground, and depending on where your site is, you may have to walk a bit to get to them. Faucets are attached to posts with tops painted like red mushrooms to make them easier to see.--Bundles of wood and kindling are available for purchase from camp host.--**There was no cell coverage throughout the campground.** The closest coverage for Verizon was at the middle parking lot at Gerstle Cove. AT&T's nearest coverage was in the Sea Ranch area.--While the campground area is very beautiful, I might only recommend the Upper Woodside sites for 2-3 people with small to medium tents, and after the weather has been dry and warm for at least a week.
Jun 03, 2019 · Daryl ShookWe camped at site #44. Campground was decently sized with fire pit and short walk to toilet. No showers, ok maintained bathroom. Site has great view of starry skies :)
Jul 04, 2017 · Joanne LeeI have never had the pleasure of camping here but I come here twice a week for service calls. The campground is beautiful. It has some open spaces for bigger groups or the quite and secluded areas for people that want peace and quite. The staff here are always friendly and more than happy to help.
