Woods Ferry Recreation Area Introduce
Welcome to the **Woods Ferry Recreation Area Campground**, a true South Carolina gem nestled within the rolling hills and picturesque hardwood forests of the Sumter National Forest's Enoree Ranger District. For local residents seeking a genuine, rustic escape that emphasizes connection with nature, this destination provides a tranquil and highly versatile outdoor experience. Known especially for its unique appeal to equestrians, Woods Ferry is a haven where you can park your trailer, secure your horse, and immediately step onto miles of beautiful, well-maintained trails.
This site functions not just as a campground, but as a fully integrated tourist attraction focused on low-impact, natural recreation. It sits along the scenic banks of the Broad River, offering a fantastic setting for fishing and peaceful paddling, and is surrounded by a diverse forest environment that is home to a variety of local wildlife. While it offers a more primitive style of camping—focusing on the essential comforts without electrical or water hookups at individual sites—it delivers an experience rich in natural beauty and outdoor activity.
The atmosphere at Woods Ferry is one of serene seclusion. As one South Carolina visitor noted, it's a "peaceful place that we can get away to without being too far away." This blend of accessibility and quiet isolation makes it a perfect weekend retreat for families, dedicated hikers, mountain bikers, and especially those who enjoy camping with their horses. From morning hikes among the dogwoods and wild azaleas to evenings spent around a warm fire pit, Woods Ferry Recreation Area promises a truly refreshing break from the daily routine in the heart of the Palmetto State's beautiful Piedmont region. The campground is **open year-round**, allowing visitors to enjoy the forest's changing seasons, from the shade of the summer canopy to the warmth provided by pine thickets in the winter.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We love this place. Just a peaceful place that we can get away to without being too far away. Also has a beautiful 100 yard rifle range.
September 08 · David BeachelA true gem for the horseback rider, hiker, and fisherman. I'm a horse rider, so this is primarily geared towards them. Trails are exquisitely beautiful with lots of single track and slight elevation changes. Nothing dramatic just winding around hills. They are extremely well marked with lots of interconnectivity. Equine living quarters parking is excellent. Metal pipe corrals are well maintained. The local Woods Ferry Horse Club is doing a phenomenal job keeping trails cleared and color coded. Small informational plaques/trail signs are quite detailed. Well worth the trip!
May 07 · nick egoroffWe really enjoyed camping here! The sites are pretty secluded, and the walk to the river is really nice. Note: if the sounds of rifles being fired in the early morning bothers you, this may not be the place for you, as there is a rifle range not far from the campground. It didn't bother us, though...we are just bringing our guns next time!
January 09 · Kimberlee WalgamotteWe stayed here from July 1-11 with our Lance truck camper at site #6. From the 1-7 we had a great experience and enjoyed the quiet and beautiful campground. There are nature trails (horse riding trails), flowers and plants, a variety of birds and lots of squirrels. The vault toilets were clean and really no unpleasant smell. There are water pumps with fresh water available throughout the campground. Most sites are level and have a fire pit, table and horse corral. However on the evening of the 8th the quiet was interrupted when Equestrian campers arrived with their rigs and generators which they ran none stop even when they were out on the trails riding. They ran them all night long as well. While the first two had quieter generators, the individual that arrived on the 10th had a construction generator which he placed facing us and ran it constantly. No sleeping at all for us. He also took over the water pump which meant we and others had to walk up by the bathroom to get our water. We have been traveling full time and staying at campgrounds (even at other equestrian campgrounds) 2 &1/2 years and have always had courteous and respectful neighbors. This was the first time we experience someone who disregarded the quiet hours and disrespected others. (Even our overnight stays at Walmart was better). Just a heads up for campers who wish to enjoy nature and get a restful nights sleep, be warned and avoid this campground. Unless you don’t mind generator noise.
July 13 · Sue BoscheeAwesome trail ride this morning. Love the winding trails & the ups & downs. Amazing how it has changed tho. Never had the pipes in the ground for the water to run through when I would go many years ago. Can't wait to go back & ride through again!!!
