Woodland Valley Campground is ideally situated at 1319 Woodland Valley Rd, Phoenicia, NY 12464, USA. This address places it deep within the heart of the majestic Catskill Mountains, specifically in Ulster County. The picturesque village of Phoenicia is nearby, offering a convenient hub for supplies and local charm.
The campground's location, "nestled in at the end of a valley," provides a sense of seclusion and immersion in nature, while still being accessible for New York residents. From the bustling metropolitan areas downstate, the drive typically involves scenic routes through the Catskills. Major access points often include the New York State Thruway (I-87), taking exits that lead towards the Route 28 corridor. From Route 28, travelers would then connect to local roads, with Woodland Valley Road leading directly to the campground. The drive itself becomes part of the experience, winding through verdant forests and past charming small towns.
While offering a peaceful retreat, the campground is not entirely isolated. The nearby village of Phoenicia, just a short drive away, provides essential amenities such as grocery stores, gas stations, charming shops, and various dining options. This balance of being "deep in the woods" yet conveniently close to supplies makes Woodland Valley Campground highly accessible for weekend trips or longer stays for New Yorkers looking to escape the concrete jungle. Its position at the trailhead for major Catskill peaks also enhances its accessibility for avid hikers.

As a New York State-run campground operated by the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), Woodland Valley Campground generally adheres to a standardized fee structure and does not offer frequent "promotions" or "special offers" in the way a private commercial campground might. However, there are inherent benefits and pricing structures that act as a form of value or "offer" for New York residents:
New York State Resident Rates: One of the most significant advantages for locals is the discounted camping rate for New York State residents. For instance, a standard campsite typically costs $20 per night for NYS residents, compared to $25 per night for non-residents. This direct price difference makes camping more affordable for those residing in the state.
Advance Reservations: While not a discount, the ability to make reservations up to 9 months in advance (through ReserveAmerica, the official booking platform for NYS campgrounds) is a valuable "offer" for locals. This allows New Yorkers to secure highly sought-after campsites, especially during peak summer weekends and the popular fall foliage season in the Catskills, ensuring their preferred dates and sites.
Minimum Stay Flexibility: Depending on the booking window, there might be flexibility for shorter stays. For example, reservations made within 3 days of arrival might allow for a 1-night stay, while bookings further in advance usually require a 2-night minimum, especially on weekends.
Accessibility to DEC Programs: Campers at Woodland Valley have access to any broader programs or events offered by the NYS DEC, such as "I Love My Park Day" (a volunteer cleanup activity) or "Outdoors Day" events, which can sometimes include free or low-cost activities.
It is always recommended to check the official New York State Parks (DEC) website or the ReserveAmerica platform for the most current pricing, reservation policies, and any potential announcements regarding special programs or limited-time opportunities. Given its popularity, booking well in advance is the best strategy for New York locals to secure their desired camping experience at Woodland Valley.

Woodland Valley Campground Reviews
Thank you Darlene! The amazing host that protected us from some Yoo-hoo bottle throwing hoodlum lady... great location, pretty sites clean facilities and friendly conversations!!
May 21, 2025 · Vince MajikasThis campground is in a beautiful location! The staff are very helpful and nice. I would love to give five stars, but unfortunately there was no access to clean water at the campsite so I took off one star. The bathrooms are clean and spacious! I didn’t get any pictures of our campsite but it had one picnic table, a fire pit, lots of space for a car and space for our big tent and small tent. The pictures I include in this review are of some views and places in the area around the campground, as well as a lovely deer who came very near to our site!
Jun 28, 2022 · Isabelle AengenheysterWe had a great stay. Campsite and bathrooms were clean and well maintained. Staff was friendly and made to sure accommodate our needs with other campers were not following site rules. We plan to return.
Jul 29, 2024 · Sheena KellerWe really enjoyed our weekend trip to Woodland Valley Campground. Although most of sites are small and close to road our stay on site #25 was great! Right next to the stream running through campground, close to bathrooms and garbage disposal. Secluded from rest of sites. Close to great hiking!
Aug 25, 2021 · StacyAbsolutely love this campground. Many of the sites are right on the creek, and you can hear it all over the grounds. Very dog friendly spot, which was awesome. Facilities were clean and well cared for. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Its not near any main roads, so its wonderfully dark and peaceful at night, just the smell of campfire and the sound of the water. One of my favorite things about the spot is there is no cell signal so have no choice but to unplug and enjoy!
