Wind Creek State Park Equestrian Campground Introduce
Alabama is home to some truly magnificent outdoor recreational areas, and Wind Creek State Park near Alexander City stands out not only as one of the largest state-operated campgrounds in the United States but also for its unique offerings, including the specialized Equestrian Campground. While the main campground boasts nearly 600 sites for conventional RVs and tents, the Equestrian Campground caters to a more specific and passionate group: those who travel with their horses.
This dedicated camping area provides essential facilities for both the rider and the horse, acting as a gateway to the park's extensive network of scenic horse trails. It’s important to note that, as a designated area, camping in the Equestrian Campground is generally reserved for visitors with horses, ensuring that the space and amenities meet the needs of the equine community. Campers often praise the ability to access the trails directly from their site, making it an ideal destination for an authentic Alabama trail riding vacation.
However, the overall park complex offers much more than just riding. Situated on the beautiful shores of Lake Martin, Wind Creek State Park provides public access to one of Alabama's most popular bodies of water for fishing, boating, and general relaxation. The combination of land-based adventure on horseback and the aquatic opportunities of the lake make this park a premier, multi-faceted destination for Alabama outdoor lovers.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Nice clean park with swimming area across the street from the boating area. Several boats on the water were trolling and fishing. I'm not sure if skiing is allowed. Long pier with fascinating views for a nice morning or evening walk. Great family place. Ziplining and horseback riding available. Check the website for availability and fees.Zipline tour guides are helpful and friendly and make the experience fun.
May 25 · Adventures AwaitVery nice state park campground. Access to the lake right from our campsite for kayaking. Nice facilities kept very clean. Easy to travel around the area. A few hiking trails that were nice but need to pay close attention to markings on the reunion trail, black section as the trail has been shifted in a section.
