White Star Park Campgrounds offers several compelling features and highlights that make it a standout choice for outdoor enthusiasts in Ohio:
White Star Quarry Access: A major highlight is its direct adjacency to White Star Quarry. This former limestone quarry has been transformed into a vibrant recreational area, offering unique opportunities for swimming at the White Star Quarry Beach (open Memorial Day to Labor Day), fishing, and most notably, scuba diving. The quarry is considered one of Northern Ohio's premier inland diving destinations, featuring clear waters and underwater attractions.
Extensive Trail System: The broader White Star Park boasts an extensive network of trails perfect for hiking, walking, and mountain biking. An 0.8-mile trail circles the quarry, providing scenic views and easy exercise. Other trails include sections suitable for horseback riding (at the Doug Haubert Wetland area within the park) and nature exploration.
Family-Friendly Amenities: Beyond the quarry, the park includes amenities for families such as play equipment, volleyball courts, and a playfield. Picnic areas with grills are available throughout the park, ideal for family gatherings and outdoor meals.
Historical Sites: Within White Star Park, visitors can explore historical log cabins and a barn from the 1870s that were deconstructed and then reconstructed on site. The barn area also hosts the yearly Sandusky County Restorers of Antique Power (S.C.R.A.P.) show each Labor Day Weekend, adding a unique historical and community event aspect.
Birdwatching Opportunities: The Doug Haubert Wetland area of White Star Park is an excellent location for birding, especially during spring and fall migrations, offering a chance to spot various waterbirds and listen to frog vocalizations in warmer months.
Community Feel and Security: Despite being "self-check-in," the campground is noted for its cleanliness and security, with regular patrols by the Sheriff's Department. This fosters a relaxed environment, allowing campers to feel safe and comfortable.
These diverse features, from unique water activities to historical exploration and serene nature trails, make White Star Park Campgrounds a dynamic destination offering more than just a place to sleep—it's a hub for varied outdoor recreation and local discovery.

White Star Park Campgrounds Reviews
Very clean campground . Kinda surprised due to no staff anywhere to be found. No check in. No issues , Sheriff department cruises the lot throughout the night. Warm water is always nice and I like the bathroom/ shower set up. Secure and clean, very nice for a family with young ones or the not so seasoned camper. Nice and level camping area with a nice table and fire pit non movable. 110/220 water hook up
Sep 01, 2023 · Matt StumpThe restrooms and shower houses are clean. I just hated having to push the button every 25 seconds to start the water. The campground is very basic so make sure you have ways to entertain yourselves. The weekend we stayed the whole campground seemed to be partying until 2a.m on Friday (which did not bother us too much) Saturday wasn’t as bad. Overall it was a great little experience.
Aug 10, 2022 · Precious CombsAbsolutely love this campgrounds and have been a coming here for 3 years! Has fire wood for $5 a bundle. Sites are perfectly spaced. Great for tents and campers. Electric and water at every site. Rangers are also amazing. Great shower houses, hot water in the showers after they run once or twice. They are on a timer so you have to keep pressing the button for water. They have large rest rooms on both sides if the shower house.
May 08, 2022 · Morgain TaylorWent during the weekday, was quiet, hookups worked just fine. Has rv power and water for each site. Not much to do around the place though. Has a quarry across the street, pay to get in.
Jun 05, 2025 · C SBasic campground experience. If you snag a spot on the culdesac, the sites are huge! The campground provides electricity and water, although the camp permit will tell you that it’s not recommended you use the water. The bathrooms were mostly clean but not the best. We stayed here because it was right across the street from the Quarry where there is a beach area, and you can scuba dive. The beach area is really nice, the water is clear. It is fairly small though and crowded at least on the weekend. The deeper section wasn’t as crowded. Be aware you cannot bring inflatables with you and that dogs are not allowed on the beach. The quarry is directly across the street from the campground and is a short walk. Overall, it was a good experience. There are no trash cans at all, even in the bathroom, so if your dog goes to the bathroom on your walk you will have to carry your bag around with you. Other than that it is a dog friendly campground. I am including a photo of the beach area, no one was in the water due to it being “break time”.
