White Lake Campground is located in White Lake, MI 48383, USA. While a precise street number isn't provided, its placement within White Lake indicates its direct connection to the expansive White Lake itself, a significant body of water in Oakland County, Michigan. This region is part of Southeast Michigan's renowned "Lakes Area," characterized by its numerous inland lakes, state parks, and recreational opportunities. White Lake is a sizable lake popular for boating, fishing, and various water sports, making its immediate vicinity highly desirable for campers and boaters alike.
For Michigan locals, the accessibility of White Lake Campground is a major advantage. White Lake is situated within Oakland County, one of Michigan's most populous and economically vibrant counties. This means the campground is relatively close to major metropolitan areas like Detroit, Flint, and Ann Arbor, allowing for convenient weekend trips or easy access for seasonal residents. It can be reached via major state roads and highways, including M-59 and US-24, which connect to the broader interstate system (I-75, I-96), facilitating straightforward travel from various points across Michigan.
The campground's direct access to White Lake, either through main lake slips (though with a significant waiting list) or more readily available canal slips, is a key aspect of its location and accessibility. While the canal presents navigational considerations for larger boats due to its width and bridge clearance, it still provides direct water access to the main lake for experienced boaters. This unique blend of being nestled within a popular lake community while remaining accessible from urban centers makes White Lake Campground an attractive option for Michigan residents seeking a long-term boating and camping lifestyle.
White Lake Campground primarily caters to seasonal campers and offers specific services tailored to this long-term arrangement:
- Seasonal Campsites: The core offering is seasonal camping, meaning sites are rented for an extended period, typically the entire camping season. This fosters a sense of community among long-term residents.
- Power and Water Hookups: Sites are equipped with both power and water hookups. For some full hookup sites, campers pay separately for their electric bill, which is a common practice in seasonal campgrounds.
- Boat Slips: A key service for boaters. Slips are available on White Lake itself (though with a long waiting list) and more commonly on the adjacent canal. The canal slips accommodate various boat sizes, with parallel parking docks potentially available for longer vessels.
- Dump Site: A dedicated dump site for black and grey water is available on the grounds, providing essential sanitation services for RVs.
- Trash Dumpster: A conveniently located dumpster is available on grounds for general trash disposal.
- Key Deposit for Main Bathrooms: Access to the main bathrooms, which include showers, requires a key and an associated deposit fee, indicating a measure to maintain cleanliness and control access.
- Rustic Outdoor Bathroom: An alternative "rustic outdoor bathroom" is also available, seemingly without a key deposit fee, offering a more basic option.
- Property Management: Judy, the property manager, is highly praised for being "very kind and great to chat with" and for providing comprehensive tours and explanations of the campground's operations and expectations.
- Dock Customization: Campers are allowed to add "bumpers and rails" to their docks, indicating flexibility for personalizing boat slip areas.
- Site Maintenance Expectation: Seasonal campers are expected to "maintain your grass" on their sites, a typical requirement for long-term rentals that contributes to the overall neatness of the campground.
Note: The campground operates with specific rules regarding the age/condition of campers and boats for seasonal slips, and dogs are generally not allowed, which influences the quiet atmosphere.
White Lake Campground offers several distinctive features and highlights that set it apart, especially for Michigan locals seeking a specific type of camping and boating experience:
- Exclusive Seasonal Camping Model: This is a primary highlight. Unlike public campgrounds with constant turnover, White Lake Campground operates on a seasonal basis. This fosters a stable, community-oriented environment where neighbors get to know each other, creating a "generally very quiet" and friendly atmosphere, especially on non-holiday weekends.
- Exceptional Property Manager: Judy, the property manager, receives high praise for being "very kind and great to chat with" and for her thoroughness in explaining rules and amenities. Her approachable and helpful nature is a significant asset to the campground.
- Direct Boat Access to White Lake: The availability of boat slips, particularly on the canal (with access to White Lake), is a huge draw for Michigan boaters. While White Lake slips have a long waiting list, the canal provides a valuable alternative for direct water access, a rare commodity in Oakland County campgrounds.
- Quiet and Respectful Environment: The campground is noted for being "generally very quiet," even on holiday weekends where "people will be outside talking and playing music till pretty late" but "nothing crazy to where you can't go to sleep." The "dogs are not allowed" policy contributes significantly to this peaceful atmosphere, which is a major highlight for those seeking tranquility.
- Well-Positioned Hookups and Clean Water: Campers appreciate that "Hook ups were in great positions for the trailer placement, and worked well" and that "Water pressure was good and very clean." This reliability of essential services contributes to a comfortable stay.
- Flexible Site Personalization: The ability to "add bumpers and rails to my dock" and "add a nice fire pit" to one's site (if not already present) allows campers to personalize their space, enhancing their long-term comfort and enjoyment.
- "Hidden Gem" Status in Oakland County: As noted by a reviewer, finding a place in "Oakland county where you can camp and boat all in one spot" is rare. This makes White Lake Campground a "hidden gem" for locals seeking this specific combination of amenities in a highly populated area.
- Practical Amenities: The presence of a dump site for black/grey water and a dumpster for trash disposal provides essential convenience for long-term campers.
While some past negative reviews may exist, the detailed positive review indicates that the core offerings and management's approach create a highly satisfying experience for those who understand and align with its seasonal, boating-focused model.

White Lake Campground Reviews
I was hesitant about getting a camper and boat slip here based on some people's reviews. Now that I've been here for a few months I feel as if I can finally write a review. Most of the low ratings I don't really believe any merit to them. This isn't a public campground, it's a seasonal deal. Yes there are older campers here but they've probably been here before I was born. It is common with a seasonal site that they want you to have a newer camper. So don't be surprised if your 20 year old camper that looks new is rejected from a seasonal campground. The boat slips on white lake has a waiting list higher than I can count. In the campground the rest of the slips are on the canal. Circling back to how seasonal slips don't normally allow old boats/campers. An individual left a poor rating after his boat sank. Idk the story behind that but when he went out and bought a brand new pontoon. His negative review was mentioning about how large it was and blah blah blah. Here's some things things to know about the canal. It's not very wide. So if he got a really long pontoon he's going to be sticking way out into the canal. Definitely not cool/considerate to others. There are parallel parking docks for longer boats so he probably had to move to one of those and idk if there's a price difference but from his awful review from lack of understanding, it sounds like there is a price difference. When I was purchasing my slips I don't remember the manager saying there was. The canal is easy enough to get out to the lake if you're an experienced boater. Another thing to note about this individuals boat experience and it being to big. The second bridge you have to go under, most large pontoons can't go under it. I have a 20' sea ray and I have to trim all the way up in the canal, and the second bridge I actually have to go into trailer up a bit for a quick second. The property manager is Judy and she is very kind and great to chat with. She took me on a tour in her golf cart and explained everything to me. Even told me about the campers on the sites. The bathrooms definitely give you an old up north feeling. There's a key deposit fee for using the bathrooms with the showers. There is a rustic outdoor bathroom that's available as well and I don't think that required a key deposit fee. There's power and water on the sites. I've hooked up a small water filtration system and the water seems good enough to use. Without testing it I haven't drank it. I used it once for making coffee and brush my teeth with it. It tasted fine, but without testing take this info very lightly. Showering is good to go as well. There are full hookup sites on the other side but you pay for the electric bill. A dump site for black and grey is on grounds. Dumpster is on grounds for trash. Overall I'm very happy with the campsite and boat slip. They allowed me to add bumpers and rails to my dock. You do have to maintain your grass. That's very typical with campsite slips. There was no fire pit on my site but I was able to add a nice pit. Everyone I've met at the campground so far have been awesome. This is a campground that kinda flys by the rules of just don't be a jerk or a Karen (sorry Karens). If it's a holiday weekend people will be outside talking and playing music till pretty late. It's nothing crazy to where you can't go to sleep with a fan on in the camper. It's generally very quiet here. Another reason of why it's quite here is dogs are not allowed. We all love the fur children but there's always that one dog that ruins it for everyone. So I get that rule. This is honestly a hidden gem. I'm surprised there's not a waiting list to get in here. How many places can you think of in Oakland county where you can camp and boat all in one spot?
Jul 28, 2024 · Justin DolaneI’ve had a spot here for 2 years , dock for my boat . First year was great . 2nd year my boat sank and I was not notified until 72 hours later . The maintenance man came over and told me to get it off the dock or he would cut the rope to my boat . I proceeded to buy a new boat (pontoon) as a replacement boat and then recover a phone call that I could not have it because it was bigger . We got into a dispute over the phone and the lady said she would just give me a different dock . I requested a new receipt . CHEAP SPEAKS FOR ITSELF . Do not recommend
Jun 10, 2023 · Dylan AlderMy grandmother and grandfather had a small camper there for 20 years back 45 years ago the park is as it has been frozen in time its the best place on earth. You will love this place. It's for rvs and tents the sights have a beautiful sight of the water. Close to subs stores close .
Aug 06, 2024 · Jerry BadalamentoThe place looks OK in pictures, so we called them to book the next month. The lady was very rude and disrespectful.. all due to the age of my rv. I am in a very well kept 1997 that looks new. I would not give her any of my money..... it's not new either for her as she said.
Jul 25, 2022 · Chris PonkeMy husband and I rented a dock spot there over the summer for our boat. It was convenient and a clean, well-kept campground.
