West Glacier KOA Resort Introduce
For us Montanans who cherish our access to Glacier National Park but also appreciate a touch of resort-style comfort and convenience, the West Glacier KOA Resort stands out as a premier destination. This isn't just any campground; it's a meticulously maintained retreat that blends the natural beauty of our state with an impressive array of amenities and activities designed for all ages. As one happy guest put it, it's "the most beautiful KOA I’ve ever stayed at," a high compliment that speaks to the dedication of its staff and the quality of the experience.
Nestled conveniently close to the west entrance of Glacier National Park, this resort offers a fantastic basecamp for exploring one of Montana's crown jewels. But the adventure doesn't stop at the park gates. The West Glacier KOA Resort itself is a vibrant hub of activity, with "music or activities every night that are good for all ages," ensuring there's always something to keep the family entertained after a day of hiking or sightseeing. From its two distinct pools—one for families and one for adults—to playgrounds where "all the kids were out playing together every evening," it fosters a lively and communal atmosphere.
While a few practical considerations, like the cost of laundry or occasional tightness of spaces, might be noted, the overwhelming sentiment from visitors is that "the good outweighed the negative so much." The consistent praise for the "very nice and helpful" staff, always with "a smile and nice conversation," speaks to the genuine Montana hospitality you'll find here. For locals seeking a comfortable, activity-rich, and strategically located spot to launch their Glacier area adventures, the West Glacier KOA Resort comes "highly recommend!"
The West Glacier KOA Resort is ideally located at 355 Halfmoon Flts Rd, West Glacier, MT 59936, USA. This places it approximately 2.5 to 3 miles west of the main West Entrance to Glacier National Park. This close proximity is a significant advantage for Montanans planning day trips into the park, allowing for quick access to iconic features like the Going-to-the-Sun Road, Apgar Village, and Lake McDonald.
Accessibility to the resort is straightforward. It’s just off US-2, the major highway that runs through West Glacier. While Halfmoon Flats Road is a paved road that leads directly to the resort, visitors should be aware that the general area around West Glacier can experience heavy traffic during peak summer months due to the park's popularity. However, the resort's location slightly off the main thoroughfare provides a degree of separation and tranquility.
For those coming from the Flathead Valley, towns like Columbia Falls, Kalispell, and Whitefish are easily accessible via US-2. The resort's design accommodates various vehicle types, including large RVs, with "lots" that are "well maintained" and offer necessary hookups. While some individual spaces might be "tight" as noted in a review, the overall accessibility into and around the resort is very good. Furthermore, its location makes it convenient for exploring other local attractions such as Lake Five, known for its "public dock for fishing or boats" and often described as "pretty much empty every time we went and very peaceful." This offers a great alternative for water activities close by, without needing to venture far.
- Diverse Accommodation Options: Offers a wide range of choices including RV sites (with full hookups including 30/50 amp electric, water, and sewer), tent sites, and various cabin types (from basic camping cabins without bathrooms to deluxe cabins with full baths, kitchens, and patios).
- Two Swimming Pools: Features a "family pool" suitable for all ages and a separate "adult pool" for those seeking a quieter relaxation space.
- Hot Tubs: Includes "two nice pools," with hot tubs specifically located only in the adult pool area.
- Playgrounds: Multiple "playgrounds" provide dedicated spaces for children to play and socialize.
- Daily Activities & Entertainment: The resort offers a robust schedule of "music or activities every night," catering to various interests and ages. This can include live music, outdoor movies, and organized games.
- On-site Dining Options: Includes the Lazy Bear Cafe (offering breakfast and dinner), Scoops Ice Cream Shop, and the Bearstream Bar.
- Camp Store/Gift Shop: A well-stocked store for essentials, souvenirs, and camping supplies.
- Laundry Facilities: On-site laundry is available, though reviewers note it can be "expensive, $7.00 a load to wash and dry," with potentially small machines.
- Clean Restrooms and Showers: Generally praised for having very clean and well-maintained bathroom and shower facilities.
- Pet-Friendly Amenities: Includes at least two dog parks and walking trails around the perimeter for pets.
- Wi-Fi Access: Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the campground.
- Propane and Firewood Sales: Convenient access to essential camping supplies on-site.
- Shuttle Services: Offers pick-up for some local tours (e.g., Red Bus tours) directly from the campground.
- "Most Beautiful KOA": Consistently praised for its aesthetically pleasing and meticulously maintained grounds, with lush landscaping and beautiful gardens.
- Exceptional Location: Located just 2.5 miles from the West Entrance of Glacier National Park, making it an ideal base for park exploration.
- Family-Friendly Atmosphere: Abundance of activities, playgrounds, and a dedicated family pool ensures entertainment for children and opportunities for them to play together.
- Adult-Exclusive Amenities: Separate adult pool and hot tubs provide a "quiet space to relax" for adults, offering a balance between family fun and tranquility.
- Friendly and Helpful Staff: Reviewers frequently highlight the "very nice and helpful" staff who are always smiling and engaging in "nice conversation."
- Proximity to Lake Five: Close access to Lake Five, a public lake with a dock, offering a peaceful alternative for fishing, boating, or simply relaxing by the water.

For us Montanans, the West Glacier KOA Resort offers a compelling proposition: a convenient, amenity-rich basecamp that complements our love for the outdoors, particularly for those times when we seek a more relaxed and comfortable experience near Glacier National Park. While we cherish our rustic wilderness spots, sometimes a bit of pampering and structured activity is exactly what a family outing or a well-deserved break calls for.
Firstly, its strategic location, just 2.5 miles from Glacier National Park's west entrance, is a major draw. We know how precious time is when exploring the park, and minimizing commute time allows for more moments on the trails or by the lakes. The added bonus of being close to Lake Five, with its "public dock for fishing or boats" and "very peaceful" atmosphere, provides a fantastic local alternative for water recreation that often feels like a secret gem, avoiding the park crowds.
Secondly, the resort's extensive amenities truly cater to a diverse range of needs. The existence of "two nice pools, one family and one adult," means there's a perfect spot for everyone, whether you're looking to splash with the kids or enjoy a quiet moment of relaxation after a strenuous hike. The daily "music or activities every night" are a huge draw for families, creating a vibrant community atmosphere where "all the kids were out playing together every evening." This provides built-in entertainment, reducing the planning burden and allowing for genuine downtime. The highly praised "very nice and helpful" staff consistently deliver that warm Montana hospitality we value.
While a previous guest mentioned a disappointing cabin reservation experience and expensive laundry, the overall sentiment points to the "good outweighed the negative so much." For Montanans planning a family gathering, a multi-generational trip, or simply a comfortable stay where adventures can be launched directly from the campground, the West Glacier KOA Resort offers a reliable and enjoyable option. It’s a place that provides the comforts of home while keeping the grandeur of Glacier National Park within easy reach, making it a highly recommended choice for a memorable local getaway.

West Glacier KOA Resort Reviews
This is the most beautiful KOA I’ve ever stayed at. The grounds are meticulously maintained. They have music or activities every night that are good for all ages. There are two nice pools, one family and one adult. Only downside was the hot tubs are only in the adult pool. We wanted to go in as a family after a long hike, but it is nice to have a quiet space to relax. The kids loved the playgrounds. Seemed like all the kids were out playing together every evening. It is a great location to the national park and we spent a lot of mornings at close by Lake Five where they have a public dock for fishing or boats. It was pretty much empty every time we went and very peaceful. The staff was very nice and helpful. They always had a smile and nice conversation. The downsides: laundry is expensive, $7.00 a load to wash and dry, and the machines were small and didn’t clean that great. The spaces were tight.Overall I would give it a 4.5 if I could but I’ll round up because the good outweighed the negative so much. Highly recommend!
Jul 06, 2025 · Kate BrownBeautiful KOA but be prepared to NOT get what you reserved and paid for ahead of time. I reserved a cabin that specified it had two rooms with queen beds and bathroom well in advance, paid deposit, and called a week before arriving to double check I was receiving this. I was told it was all in order. My husband and I had an RV spot reserved besides. This cabin was for my daughter and her husband, and my niece who is from England and her boyfriend who was proposing to her. I get the key and walk in, and it is one queen bed in one room, and tiny bunk beds in front that are so small, it would be great for kids. NOT what I paid the deposit on and brought sheets for. The gal working the front desk Ginger I believe, was very nice, and said she would do what she could, but in the end I was given 2 small cabins, no bathroom, and then told I had to pay the difference. I paid a couple hundred dollars more for what I really didn't want, and my brother's deposit on an RV spot( that he cancelled due to an accident where he was injured and in hospital) helped pay the other 300.00. I felt totally taken on this despite her nice manner and trying to give me discounts, it was very disappointing to say the least. The staff is friendly, and love the park itself, but probably will skip this one in the future and try other parks in the area, Just a little too expensive and I am scared if I ever book again, for a family gathering I won't get what I reserved and paid for. $$$$$
Jun 30, 2025 · Terry DaltonStay here! It truly is an RV resort. Probably one of the nicest we’ve stayed in. Grounds and facilities are beautiful and the evening live music is on a manicured lawn with comfy seating. It’s also next to the playground so you can have a cocktail and still see the kids. The restaurant is also right there so you can enjoy a few hours of relaxation. Perfect!
Jun 22, 2025 · Patricia SpaniolRV spot was perfect! Everyone is kind and friendly. Staff helped to plan our visit into Glacier National Park. Amenities are off the charts. Their little store has tons of items you may need and souvenirs too. Super clean and safe. Family friendly- take walks or ride bikes. Enjoy the pool. Definitely would come back here.
May 09, 2025 · Rena BStaying at any KOA is an investment, but in terms of amenities and service, this place was top notch. The staff were extremely friendly and knowledgable about local opportunities. The location was excellent and it had a real resort like camping feel! We would definitely stay here again!
