The campground was fantastic. It definitely helps to choose a site with shade as it gets hot in the day and cold at night and bring plenty of mosquito repellent. Also of note, the bathrooms have nice flush toilets, but no showers. The river is absolutely gorgeous and runs right beside the campground. It's best to take a dip in late afternoon or early evening when the river water is warmest. We camped in late June and it was tolerable to swim later in the day. - David Smith

Are you dreaming of a quintessential California camping experience nestled within one of the state's most iconic natural wonders? Look no further than Wawona Campground, a truly fantastic destination located within the breathtaking Yosemite National Park. This campground offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the majestic beauty of the Sierra Nevada, providing a serene and unforgettable outdoor adventure for all who visit.

Wawona Campground is celebrated for its remarkable setting, offering a peaceful retreat where the sounds of nature, particularly the gentle flow of a nearby river, create a truly relaxing ambiance. It's an ideal choice for those seeking to disconnect from the daily grind and reconnect with the natural world, all while enjoying the fundamental comforts that make a camping trip enjoyable. Whether you're a seasoned camper or looking to experience the magic of Yosemite for the first time, Wawona provides a welcoming and picturesque base.

The allure of Wawona extends beyond its scenic beauty; it’s a place where every moment, from the warmth of the day to the cool of the night, is an integral part of the experience. Visitors consistently praise its tranquility and the stunning natural features that surround each campsite. Prepare to be enchanted by the natural charm and serene atmosphere that defines camping at Wawona.

Wawona Campground is uniquely situated within the expansive and world-renowned Yosemite National Park, with its address listed as TUOLUMNE MEADOWS, CA 95389, USA. While the provided address indicates Tuolumne Meadows, it's important for visitors to note that Wawona Campground itself is located in the southern part of Yosemite National Park, near the historic Wawona Hotel and the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias, distinct from the higher elevation Tuolumne Meadows area. This strategic placement offers a different, yet equally captivating, Yosemite experience.

Accessibility to Wawona Campground for Californians is generally excellent. Located within Yosemite National Park, it is reachable via well-maintained park roads, though visitors should always check park conditions, especially during different seasons. For those coming from major California population centers like the Bay Area, Central Valley, or Southern California, Wawona serves as a gateway to the park, typically accessed through the southern entrance (Highway 41/Wawona Road). The drive itself is part of the adventure, offering scenic vistas as you approach the heart of the Sierra Nevada.

The campground's proximity to the beautiful South Fork of the Merced River is a significant highlight, offering easy access to its refreshing waters. While Wawona is distinct from the primary Yosemite Valley, its location provides a peaceful alternative with relatively easier access points to the park compared to the often-congested Valley. It offers a convenient base for exploring the iconic giant sequoias of Mariposa Grove, the historic Wawona area, and enjoying the river, all while being within a reasonable drive to the more famous Yosemite Valley attractions.
