For us Virginians who own an Airstream, finding a campground that not only accommodates our beloved travel trailers but also celebrates the unique culture and community surrounding them is a true delight. While our Commonwealth is brimming with diverse camping options, Virginia Highland Haven Airstream Park offers a distinctly specialized and highly sought-after experience. This isn't just any campground; it's a "gem" and a "warm welcoming community" exclusively for Airstream owners, providing a unique blend of natural beauty, meticulous maintenance, and vibrant camaraderie high in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Virginia Highland Haven Airstream Park is more than just a place to park your silver bullet; it's a destination where "most staying are shareholders in the property and all are vested in keeping its natural beauty." This dedication is evident in the "impeccably maintained" grounds and the "love love love the atmosphere." For Virginia Airstream owners, this translates into a peerless camping experience where you're surrounded by fellow enthusiasts who share your passion. It’s a place to unwind, share stories, and truly feel at home amidst stunning mountain views, making it an essential stop for anyone touring or living in our state with an Airstream in tow.
Virginia Highland Haven Airstream Park is strategically located at 6517 Highland Haven Rd NE, Copper Hill, VA 24079, USA. This address places it squarely in the breathtaking Blue Ridge Mountains of Southwest Virginia, at an elevation of over 2,700 feet. For Virginians, this means convenient access to some of the most iconic scenic beauty and outdoor recreational opportunities our state has to offer.
The park's mountaintop location provides "sweeping mountain vistas" and "spectacular evening sunsets," creating a picturesque backdrop for every stay. While it feels wonderfully secluded, offering "cool breezes, natural setting, peace and serenity," it remains accessible. Basic shopping, including two grocery stores, hardware, dining, and a CVS pharmacy, are about 15 miles away in the charming town of Floyd, known for its vibrant music scene (especially the Friday Night Jamboree at the Floyd Country Store) and artisan community. A recently opened Dollar General is even closer, just 2 miles from the park entrance, providing quick access to essentials.
Furthermore, the park serves as an excellent base for exploring wider regional attractions. Roanoke, a larger city offering "excellent cultural, shopping, dining, and historic attractions," is approximately 22 miles northeast. The renowned Blue Ridge Parkway is also easily accessible, providing endless opportunities for scenic drives, hiking, and exploring quaint mountain towns. For those of us living in Virginia, this location offers the perfect balance of a peaceful mountain retreat with convenient access to both essential services and a plethora of recreational and cultural activities in our beautiful Blue Ridge region.
Virginia Highland Haven Airstream Park is exclusively designed for Airstream owners, offering a tailored set of services and amenities that enhance the experience of this unique community:
Paved Full Hookup Sites: The park features 46 paved sites, all equipped with water, sewer, and 30A electric hookups (with 50A upgrades available for an additional fee). These sites are noted for being "very level" and having concrete pads/patios.
Complimentary WiFi: Wi-Fi internet access is available throughout the park, keeping guests connected.
Spacious Sites: Most sites are at least 50 feet long, providing ample space for Airstreams.
Community Clubhouse: A comfortable clubhouse is available for guests, which includes laundry facilities for convenience.
Large Screen Pavilion: A dedicated pavilion is present for group events and social gatherings.
Community Fire Ring: A communal fire pit is available for shared enjoyment, fostering the park's strong community atmosphere (weather permitting for fires).
On-Site Hiking Trails: The 75-acre property boasts "miles of hiking trails," including a path to a scenic waterfall.
Site Lighting: Each site comes with "a little light," adding to comfort and visibility.
Overflow Parking: An overflow parking area is available near the entrance for additional vehicle parking.
No Bathhouse: Campers are expected to use the bathroom facilities within their Airstream, as there is no public bathhouse.
Virginia Highland Haven Airstream Park is distinguished by several unique features and highlights that contribute to its "gem" status and make it a beloved destination for Airstream owners:
Airstream-Exclusive Community: This is the defining feature. The park is exclusively for Airstream and Argosy branded RVs, fostering an incredibly strong sense of community, shared passion, and camaraderie among campers. This creates a welcoming and understanding environment.
Impeccably Maintained Grounds: Reviewers consistently praise the "impeccably maintained" grounds, reflecting the shared ownership and pride of the community in keeping the property beautiful.
Scenic Mountain Views and Sunsets: Perched at over 2,700 feet, the park offers "beautiful mountain vistas" and "spectacular evening sunsets," providing a stunning natural backdrop.
On-Site Waterfall and Hiking: The presence of hiking trails leading to a waterfall directly on the 75-acre property is a significant highlight, offering natural exploration right at your doorstep.
Warm and Friendly Atmosphere: The community is described as "super friendly people" and "nicest people," creating a welcoming and hospitable environment for visitors.
Regular Group Activities: The park frequently hosts "group activities and community camp fires," including happy hours, ice cream socials, movie nights, and morning yoga, further enhancing the social bond.
Natural Pest Control: The presence of "tons of tree swallows to keep the bugs down" is a unique and beneficial natural feature.
Private Ownership Model: The fact that many sites are owned by shareholders (who then rent out unoccupied sites) indicates a deep investment in the park's quality and longevity.
Cool Breezes: Being on top of a mountain, the park enjoys "cool breezes," providing a refreshing escape, especially during warmer months.
Virginia Highland Haven Airstream Park operates as a non-profit social club primarily for Airstream owners, with a unique seasonal membership model. This means "promotions or special offers" are integrated into their booking structure rather than being traditional discounts. Here's how it works:
Seasonal Membership: All Airstream owners wishing to reserve a camping spot must become seasonal members. The seasonal membership fee (currently $27 for 2025) is integrated into the cost of your first night's stay. So, your first night costs $41 ($27 membership + $14 discounted first night), with subsequent nights at $41 plus taxes.
Online Reservations: The park now uses Firefly for online reservations, allowing campers to select a preferred site based on projected stockholder occupancy. Reservations are required to be prepaid.
Cancellation Policy: Be aware there is a $41 cancellation fee regardless of when you cancel to cover processing costs.
Operating Season: The campground is open from May 1 to October 15 each year. Demand is high, particularly on weekends, so advance reservations are strongly suggested.
No Long-Term Reservations: The park cannot accommodate long-term reservations (typically a 7-day maximum), and attempts to circumvent this limit by creating multiple concurrent reservations will result in cancellation of excess bookings.
For the most current rates and booking procedures, Airstream owners should consult the park's official website.

Virginia Highland Haven Airstream Park Reviews
This was our second stay at this gem of a Airstream only campground. What a warm welcoming community. Most staying are shareholders in the property and all are vested in keeping its natural beauty. The grounds are impeccably maintained. There are hiking trails to a waterfall. Community fire pit. A clubhouse which we haven’t set foot in. Just love love love the atmosphere!!!
Jul 02, 2024 · Janet KerrIf you own an Airstream you definitely should stay some time. Beautiful trails, super friendly people, very clean. Paved pad/porch and a little light at each site. Very level with full hook ups. Wonderful view. Sites don't have tables or fire pits so come prepared. Everyone should stay here at least once. They often have group activities and community camp fires if the wind cooperates. Tons of tree swallows to keep the bugs down. On the top of a mountain so it can be breezy.
Jun 18, 2023 · Richard KAs you can imagine from the name, yes this is an Airstream only campground. If you are an Airstreamer, and are looking for mountaintop serenity…welcome! We have been coming here 7 years and have spent many nights in the area…beautiful SW Virginia! Love this place!
Jun 11, 2024 · Chris MonroeWe needed a getaway to get some much needed sleep and relaxation after a few hectic months at work. This was EXACTLY what we needed. The park host and shareholders were super friendly and helpful but not in an overwhelming way. We were greeted right away, and asked if we needed help, and then left to our own devices. The views are good even if you are not directly over the cliff. The sites are close, but not so close that there is not privacy. (I've been to campgrounds where you can look in your neighbors window...)It's very peaceful with nature surrounding you and a waterfall in hiking distance. Bring what you need the closest thing is a (well stocked) Dollar General, but not much else. Closest town is either Floyd (which does have some good restaurants) or Norfolk. It was definitely worth the drive and the weather couldn't have been better! Definitely will return.
May 30, 2022 · Claudine Johnson EaddyWhat a wonderful park, with beautiful sunsets, amazing views of the Blue Ridge and on a clear day as far as the New River Gorge in West Virginia. This is an Airstream only park, but if you have an Airstream it's worth a visit. It's perhaps one of the best parks in the country. The folks here are wonderful, welcoming and very insightful with things to do. There is lots of hiking and recreation near by, and plenty to see and do in the town of Floyd nearby. If you're in Virginia, put Highland Haven on your must visit list.
