Union River 'Big Bear' Campground Reviews
We stayed here for 3 nights and had a great time. The campground was very clean, bathrooms were well-maintained. Easy access to the lake an amazing view of the sunset, and a great view of the stars. The camp stores sell just about all the little things you might have forgotten and so much more. The staff was pleasant and friendly. Around you have endless close hiking trails ( we did a 9-mile hike at Lake of the Clouds) kayaking and plenty of beautiful places to sightsee.
Jul 01, 2025 · Ricky SBest location and price to heat ratio on hardwood campfire bundles in the area. No use in stopping anywhere else. The other local 3 for 10s are softwood and burn up in a few hours. Great selection of gifts and amenities inside as well. Will have to stay sometime. Looks great for families and quick access seekers. Very safe spot, would recommend for anyone.
Jun 04, 2025 · M StoutI had the amazing experience of being able to work-camp here for the summer of 2023, and it was an amazing experience !!! Norm and Sue's are two of the most amazing people, and provide a wonderful family friendly and relaxing environment right on the shore of Lake Superior. The campground sets right outside of Porcupine Mountain Wilderness so the park is minutes away, Yooper light hunting at night is directly across the street, perfect for RockHounds of all ages. This place will always hold a special place in my heart, and I hope to get back there again soon.
Apr 07, 2025 · AJ GulledgeHate to leave this review. Not because of anything negative, on the contrary. This place is a hidden gem ! One of those places you wanna keep all to yourself. But,, its just to good not to share. Excellent location, sites, amenities and staff. Will definitely stay here again
Jul 04, 2025 · R FloresI have been twice now and will continue to come to this campground! Every campground I have gone to has rules (pretty much the same ones), but at this campground, they enforce them which keeps the peace and quiet for those following the rules! So if you can follow the rules and want peace and tranquility of nature, I highly recommend this! I have never had a bad encounter with the owners, I have enjoyed talking to them when they are out and about or in the store. They have a community campfire, so campers can sit by a fire and watch the sunset over Lake Superior. This campground sits right outside the Porcupine Mountain State park, which makes them close to MANY beautiful trails and attractions!
