Location and Accessibility: A Scenic Drive to the Summit
Trial Lake Campground is located at 150 FR042, Kamas, UT 84036, USA, and can be accessed via the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway. The drive itself is beautiful, but the road leading to the campground is steep, so be prepared for a slow and winding journey. However, the effort is well worth it. The campground is situated on the shores of Trial Lake, and almost every campsite offers close proximity to the water, with some located directly across the road from the lake's edge.
The campground accommodates both RV and tent campers, and the roads and parking spurs are paved. This provides a more convenient camping experience than some of the more rugged, primitive sites in the area. Each campsite has on-site parking, making it easy to set up your camp. Due to the high elevation and potential for unexpected weather, it's a good idea to bring extra layers and be prepared for temperature swings, as well as rain, hail, and wind.
Services Offered
RV and Tent Camping: The campground offers a mix of single-family sites and at least one double site, accommodating both RVs and tents. Each site comes equipped with picnic tables and campfire rings. Some sites also have dedicated tent pads.
Public Restrooms: The campground provides public vault toilets, ensuring basic sanitation needs are met.
Running Water: Running water is available, but it is not always potable. It's recommended that campers bring their own drinking water to be safe.
Camping Fee: A camping fee is required for staying at the campground, which helps with the site's maintenance. Firewood is also available for purchase from the camp host.
On-site Parking: Every site has dedicated on-site parking for one vehicle.
Features / Highlights
Close Proximity to the Lake: The most significant highlight is the easy access to Trial Lake itself. The lake is a perfect walking distance from all campsites, making it simple to enjoy fishing, canoeing, and kayaking at a moment's notice.
Beautiful Scenery: The campground is set in a dense forest of Engelmann spruce and white fir trees, providing ample shade. The high-elevation setting and proximity to the lake offer breathtaking views.
Good for Kids and Dogs: Trial Lake Campground is considered "good for kids," with kid-friendly hikes nearby. The lake itself provides a fun, natural playground. Additionally, dogs are allowed, provided they are on a leash.
Hiking Opportunities: While there is no hike around Trial Lake itself, the campground serves as a gateway to other incredible trails. Popular trailheads for Crystal Lake and Bald Mountain are located just a mile away at the nearby Washington Lake Campground.
Picnic-Friendly: The picnic tables at each site make it easy to enjoy meals and snacks outdoors. The beautiful surroundings make it a great spot for a picnic, even if you are just visiting for the day.

July 17 · Robb W. HickenTrial Lake is one of my favorite campgrounds. Elevation is 9500 feet, so be prepared for cold nights and quick change in weather. Once when we camped, it rained, hailed, was crazy windy, and sunny, all in the same weekend. This year because of the snow and flooding, we were there mid-July and the campground had just opened. We've stayed in site #7 (right on the water) and #1 (a double site.) Site #1 is at the bottom of a big hill which really limited where we could put our tents. There are 2 10x10 tent pads, but one of our tents is 14x14, so we had to put it in the grass and sleep on an incline. The location of the site is literally right across the road from the lake. We would just walk across with our chairs and kayaks and enjoyed the day, but it also meant that other people were parking at our site or literally walking thru the middle of the site to get to the water (nothing to do with the campground, just people's bad manners.) The water was beautiful. The site itself had a ton of bugs and small worm like bugs were falling out of the trees over the picnic tables. I like the lake, but I wouldn't stay at site #1 again.
September 17 · Chris BellA beautiful campground with amazing views. This is one of our favorite places to visit. Great for kayaking and paddle boards. Fishing is usually fantastic. The only downside is no potable water so plan ahead.
August 03 · Rich millerPulled the trigger on this campground and was definitely not disappointed! Beautiful lake, beautiful campsite, beautiful weather. Not to mention having spots for parking, tent platforms, and a very clean and helpful camp host were also great additions! Highly recommended!
August 15 · Natska RThis was an awesome campground and we really enjoyed our stay! It was fairly easy to get to and we woke up to a beautiful view of the lake right below our campsite. It is near a lot of other trails and lakes as well.
