Stough Reservoir Campground

Cedarville, CA 96104, USA

4.0
Nice little quiet campground in a beautiful part of the Modoc National Forest. I arrived at night and like any other night it was dark, so I had no idea what the surrounding area looked like. Just like most mornings it was light out and I was not expecting to be blown away by scenery. Just go check it out it's 100 percent worth it. The lady ducks are really nice as well, and the Osprey snagging fish out of the tiny reservoir tops off the experience. - Robert Brown

Location and Accessibility

Stough Reservoir Campground is situated in a beautiful, somewhat secluded part of the Modoc National Forest, with its address listed as Cedarville, CA 96104, USA. This places it in the northeastern part of California, an area renowned for its vast wilderness, volcanic landscapes, and abundant wildlife. The campground sits at an elevation of approximately 6,200 feet, providing a welcome respite from the hotter valley temperatures during summer months. Access to the campground is typically via a one-mile gravel road off Highway 299, making it accessible to small trailers and RVs, as well as tents. While it feels wonderfully remote, the campground is not entirely isolated. It offers a perfect balance for those who want to experience the wilderness without venturing too far off the beaten path. The directions generally involve taking Highway 299 towards Cedarville, then turning onto Forest Road 43N07 for about a mile. It is advised to check current road conditions, especially during early spring or late fall, as snow can affect accessibility.
