For those journeying from downstate or the Capital Region, you'll typically take I-87 North (the Adirondack Northway) to Exit 29 (Newcomb/North Hudson). From there, you will connect directly to U.S. Route 9. The campground is located a short distance north of this exit on Route 9. The location of Sharp Bridge Campground is a significant advantage for outdoor enthusiasts. It is strategically positioned to offer excellent access to a multitude of hiking trails within the Adirondack High Peaks region, including routes to the popular Boreas Ponds Tract and other wilderness areas. This makes it an ideal staging point for day hikes or multi-day backpacking trips. Beyond immediate wilderness access, the campground is within a reasonable driving distance of charming nearby towns. For instance, Schroon Lake, with its village amenities, shops, and restaurants, is just a short drive south. Other towns like Minerva and Newcomb are also accessible, providing options for supplies, dining, and other services. While the campground itself is nestled in a natural setting, its proximity to Route 9 means some traffic noise can be heard, a trade-off for its high accessibility. However, the convenience for reaching both wilderness areas and local towns makes Sharp Bridge a practical choice for New Yorkers exploring this vast region.

Sharp Bridge Campground Reviews
I caught up with a friend at the campsite as planned for some hiking and camping in the Adirondacks. The campsite had a table and fire pit/grill, was convenient to the restrooms, shower, and water. Most of the campsites were occupied, all visitors were friendly and cordial. It was near some very nice trails, and we had a couple of nice meals in restaurants in nearby towns. Overall a very pleasant experience.
Aug 10, 2024 · Larry PaxtonCampground manager's bark is worse than her bite and the place is attentively run. Some traffic noise, plenty of level space at campsites. Free showers, but bath house is pretty run down.
Aug 31, 2024 · Cam FoxThe campground is just outside of the High Peaks Wilderness - an easy 10-30minute drive to the trailheads. The campsite itself was nice. It was clean, large enough for a couple of tents and car, had a picnic table, and a stone hearth for campfires. There is one centrally located building that held women’s and men’s bathrooms and I believe a couple of showers as well. The bathrooms were always clean, had running hot and cold water, and was well stocked with toilet paper, hand soap, and paper towels. The campground was clean and fairly spacious. There are water faucets scattered throughout for non-potable water. We went on a weekend during the summer, so it was full, and we didn’t hear any noise from our neighbors. However, (and this was a big one for me and the reason I’m rating it a 4) you can hear traffic coming from the nearby 87 highway. When I want to get away camping, I want to go out in nature and not be disturbed by noise, but this noise was constant - day and night. I noticed it the first minute I stepped out of the car for the first time, my friend who had been there several times didn’t seem to mind. For this reason, I’ll likely search for a different campground to try… but that’s just me.
Aug 15, 2022 · Ashley BentleyStayed here for 4 nights to access hiking in the High Peaks. Very clean bathroom facilities, pretty quiet and clean. No frills, but that is exactly what we like. We ended up with a really great site- lots of room and fairly flat. Some of the sites looked like there wasn't a lot of room to set up a tent. We will definitely be back.
Aug 10, 2020 · Emmaline LongWonderful campground with good flat spaces to set up tents and potable water readily available. Safe, family friendly, trail along the river at the campground entrance and close proximity to more challenging hiking trails, waterfalls, and other activities. Basic amenities with a very rustic feel. Sink to clean dishes and shower available. Only one bathhouse for the campground. Firewood available, unless caretaker is not around.
