I caught up with a friend at the campsite as planned for some hiking and camping in the Adirondacks. The campsite had a table and fire pit/grill, was convenient to the restrooms, shower, and water. Most of the campsites were occupied, all visitors were friendly and cordial. It was near some very nice trails, and we had a couple of nice meals in restaurants in nearby towns. Overall a very pleasant experience. - Larry Paxton

Sharp Bridge Campground Introduce

For New Yorkers seeking an authentic and accessible Adirondack camping experience, Sharp Bridge Campground in North Hudson, NY, offers a practical and well-situated option. Operated by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC), this campground provides a straightforward, no-frills approach to outdoor living, allowing you to focus on the natural beauty and recreational opportunities that abound in this iconic region. It's a place where the simplicity of a campfire under the stars meets the convenience of essential amenities, making it a reliable choice for residents eager to explore the vastness of the Adirondack Park.

Sharp Bridge Campground is renowned among local campers for its strategic location, serving as an excellent basecamp for hiking adventures and exploring nearby towns. While it embraces a more rustic charm, particularly in its facilities, it provides the fundamental necessities for a comfortable stay, including individual campsites with tables and fire pits, and the welcome addition of free showers. Campers frequently praise the friendly atmosphere among visitors and the attentive management, ensuring a pleasant experience. If you're a New Yorker who values convenience to trails, a friendly camping environment, and a straightforward approach to enjoying the Adirondacks, Sharp Bridge Campground could be your next favorite outdoor destination.

Location and Accessibility

Sharp Bridge Campground is conveniently located at 4390 US-9, North Hudson, NY 12855, USA. Its address directly on U.S. Route 9, a major north-south highway, makes it highly accessible for New York residents traveling to and through the Adirondack Park.

For those journeying from downstate or the Capital Region, you'll typically take I-87 North (the Adirondack Northway) to Exit 29 (Newcomb/North Hudson). From there, you will connect directly to U.S. Route 9. The campground is located a short distance north of this exit on Route 9. This direct access from a major interstate ensures a relatively easy and scenic drive, minimizing complicated navigation.

The location of Sharp Bridge Campground is a significant advantage for outdoor enthusiasts. It is strategically positioned to offer excellent access to a multitude of hiking trails within the Adirondack High Peaks region, including routes to the popular Boreas Ponds Tract and other wilderness areas. This makes it an ideal staging point for day hikes or multi-day backpacking trips. Beyond immediate wilderness access, the campground is within a reasonable driving distance of charming nearby towns. For instance, Schroon Lake, with its village amenities, shops, and restaurants, is just a short drive south. Other towns like Minerva and Newcomb are also accessible, providing options for supplies, dining, and other services. While the campground itself is nestled in a natural setting, its proximity to Route 9 means some traffic noise can be heard, a trade-off for its high accessibility. However, the convenience for reaching both wilderness areas and local towns makes Sharp Bridge a practical choice for New Yorkers exploring this vast region.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) campground, Sharp Bridge Campground typically does not offer commercial promotions, discount codes, or special offers in the way a private business might. Pricing for NYSDEC campgrounds is standardized and set by the state.

  • Standardized State Rates: The cost per night for a campsite at Sharp Bridge is consistent across NYSDEC campgrounds, reflecting a value-oriented approach to public recreation. These rates are published on the NYSDEC website and through their official reservation system.
  • Empire Pass Use: While the Empire Pass provides free vehicle entry to most New York State Parks and DEC day-use areas, it does not typically offer discounts on camping fees themselves. However, it enhances overall accessibility to state lands.
  • Senior Citizen/Veteran Discounts: New York State campgrounds may offer discounts to eligible senior citizens or veterans during specific periods. Campers should inquire directly with the campground or check the NYSDEC website for details on these state-level programs, as eligibility and application processes apply.
