It’s crucial to note that GPS directions can sometimes lead you astray onto unpaved roads. To ensure a smooth journey, especially if you prefer paved routes, it's recommended to take Route 2 from the east heading west. The campground entrance on Central Shaft Road will be on your left, located in Florida, MA, just before a significant hairpin curve. Keep an eye out for the blue street sign, which can be difficult to spot when heading westbound. While seemingly tucked away, this location offers a true sense of seclusion and natural beauty, yet remains remarkably accessible for many Massachusetts residents. The drive itself, through the scenic Berkshires, is part of the charm, setting the tone for a relaxing escape. Its proximity to major routes, once you know the best way to navigate, makes it a convenient choice for a weekend trip or an extended stay without requiring extensive travel time. This ease of access, combined with its remote feel, creates a perfect balance for a local getaway.
The campground’s strategic position also provides excellent access to other regional attractions. For instance, the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail, a popular paved path ideal for walking, running, and biking, is only about a 30-minute drive from the campground, specifically from the trailhead in North Adams. This makes Savoy Mountain State Forest Campground an excellent base for exploring the wider Western Massachusetts area and enjoying a variety of outdoor activities beyond the immediate confines of the campsite. The local road network, while sometimes requiring careful navigation, ultimately connects visitors to a wealth of recreational opportunities, making it a hub for outdoor enthusiasts from across the state.

Savoy Mountain State Forest Campground Reviews
Absolutely love this place! We come here twice a year. Fall foliage is the best there in end September, beginning of October. You can see so much more stars there then in our city. Can’t wait to camp there this fall. Also, they have four cabins with amazing views!
Jul 07, 2024 · VNGMy wife and I camped at the Savory Mountain State Forest Campgrounds for a couple of nights. Getting to the campgrounds is a bit tricky. If you want to avoid dirt roads, DO NOT FOLLOW YOUR GPS DIRECTION. We took Route 2 from the east going west. The campgrounds is on Central Shaft road on the left in Florida, Ma. BEFORE the hair pin curve. The blue street sign is difficult to see when heading west. The campground is a short drive to the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail, about 30 minutes from the end of the trail head in North Adams. The campgrounds have sites both under shaded trees and in open spaces, plus it has a few cabins in the woods. There are 3 bathrooms easily within walking distance from any site. Cell service was marginal, one to two bars at best. There are several hiking trails, some moderate to more difficult. There are spots that can be wet and muddy.

Oct 26, 2023 · VickyFantastic campground, this was our second trip here and I plan to return next year. The facilities are very clean, and there is swimming and hiking. The sites are great, there's something for everyone, shaded, open, you name it. Staff are very nice. Mass state camping grounds are The Best ❤️
Jul 06, 2022 · Maria R.Rustic campground, waaaaaay out in the sticks! Bears!!! Each site has a bear locker for food. Beautiful campsites are well hidden from neighboring sites. Beach area is nice at South Pond. Avoid the North Pond and its leeches! We would go again. Oh, no cellular service, have a map or satellite GPS.
