Please clean up after yourself. Trash cans are literally within 30 yards of each site. Other than the random litter, this is my new favorite campground. Plenty of space and everything I was looking for (which was mostly a peaceful and quiet place with high enough elevation to escape the heat). Takes about ~10 to drive to max patch and about 5 minutes to lemon gap. I filter my water from the campground streams through a charcoal filter. This is a true backcountry car camping site. - JB

One of the significant advantages of this location is its proximity to popular outdoor landmarks. For those looking to explore iconic sections of the Appalachian Trail, Round Mountain Campground serves as an excellent base. Users have noted that it takes approximately 10 minutes to drive to the breathtaking vistas of Max Patch, a truly unforgettable spot for hiking and panoramic views. Round Mountain Campground, while embracing a rustic and natural camping style, provides essential services to ensure a comfortable stay for its visitors. It's important to remember that this is a "pack everything in and out" campground in terms of personal waste, but core facilities are available:

  • Vault Potties: The campground features vault potties, which are generally well-maintained and kept clean. This provides a basic but essential amenity for campers.
  • Water Access (Stream): While not potable straight from the source, streams are available within the campground for water collection. Many campers choose to filter this water through a charcoal filter or similar purification system for drinking and cooking, embracing a true backcountry approach.
  • Trash Cans: Conveniently located within 30 yards of each site, readily available trash cans encourage campers to keep the area clean and minimize litter, contributing to the overall pristine condition of the campground.
