Riverfront Park / Goose Landing is located at 1000 Water St, Warsaw, IL 62379, USA. This address places it directly on the eastern bank of the Mississippi River in the historic town of Warsaw, Illinois. For Illinois residents, its location provides immediate access to the river, offering unparalleled views and convenient launching points for boats and other watercraft. Warsaw itself is a small, charming town with a rich history, accessible via state routes that connect to larger thoroughfares in Illinois.
Accessibility to the campground is generally straightforward. If approaching from the south, visitors can avoid a "steep hill" that leads down to the camp from the north side, making for an easier arrival with larger vehicles or trailers. The park is situated close to the main areas of Warsaw, meaning that any necessities or local exploration opportunities are just a short drive or walk away.
Its position on the Mississippi River also places it in close proximity to other regional attractions, such as the historic Nauvoo Temple and the Keokuk geode area for "geode hunting/rockhounding," as noted by a reviewer. This allows campers to easily combine their riverside relaxation with cultural excursions or unique natural explorations within the Illinois-Iowa border region. The occasional sound of boats or trains, while present, is often described as minimal and contributes to the authentic riverfront atmosphere, rather than being disruptive.
Riverfront Park / Goose Landing offers a selection of essential services, focusing on providing value and convenience for campers who appreciate a more straightforward approach to outdoor living. The "honor system" payment method highlights the trust placed in visitors by the local community.
- Camping Pads with Hookups: The park features approximately 10 camping pads, primarily designed for campers/RVs. Each of these pads is equipped with water and power hook-ups (including 30 AMP and 50 AMP electric options), a picnic table, and a fire ring.
- Tent Camping Area: A designated area is available for tent camping, offering a more traditional outdoor experience.
- Shared Water and Power: As noted by a reviewer, water hookups are shared, and campers "might need a splitter and an extra length of hose to reach it." Similarly, reaching the power box may require "two cords," suggesting a need for longer electrical cords.
- Inexpensive Rates: The campground is known for its affordable pricing, with tent camping at $7.00/night and camper/RV spots with water and electric at $20.00/night (as of 2022 rates). Discounts are offered for longer stays (e.g., 5 nights for $80.00, 7 nights for $100.00).
- Honor System Payment: Fees are payable via an honor system, where campers put their spot number and fee in an envelope and drop it into a lockbox at the park. Alternatively, payments can be made at City Hall (210 N 4th Street). Online reservations may be possible for longer stays.
- Dump Station (Off-Site): While there is no dump station directly on-site, a "camper dump station is located up the hill in town behind the water company" (on Main Street), providing a convenient off-site solution for RV waste.
- No Shower House: It is important for campers to be aware that the park does not have a shower house or dedicated shower facilities.
- Trash Receptacles: Bins are available for trash disposal, though a reviewer noted issues with litter and overflowing cans, highlighting the need for increased civic pride in waste management.
These services underline the park's focus on providing basic, accessible camping directly on the river.
Riverfront Park / Goose Landing boasts several features and highlights that make it a compelling choice for Illinois campers, particularly those who appreciate a no-frills, scenic, and community-oriented experience:
- Prime Mississippi Riverfront Location: The most significant highlight is its direct placement "right on the Mississippi River." This offers "beautiful views of the Mississippi River and the barges passing by," and "beautiful sunsets," providing a picturesque and constantly changing backdrop for your stay.
- Boat Access and Launch: With "boat access" and "two ramps for boating" directly "across the parking lot," the campground is ideal for boaters, jet skiers, and anyone looking to get out on the river for fishing or recreation. This makes it a perfect base for exploring "Pool 20's sandbars" or crossing to Alexandria, MO.
- Affordable Camping: Consistently described as "nice, inexpensive camping spot" with "good price," it offers excellent value for a riverside location with water and electric hookups.
- Quiet and Peaceful Atmosphere: Despite being on a river, reviewers noted that the "occasional boat or train" noise was manageable, with one light sleeper finding it "more just white noise." This indicates a generally calm and relaxing environment, "perfect little camping spot facing the water."
- Family-Friendly Fun: While basic, the park features a "merry go round" that was noted as "the fastest spinning merry go round we have used," providing a unique and enjoyable piece of play equipment for children.
- "Goose Landing" Charm: True to its name, "tons of geese wandering around" are a common sight. Reviewers found that "they never bothered us in the least!" adding to the natural charm and wildlife viewing opportunities.
- Fishing Opportunities: The riverfront access provides "easy fishing access," with potential for catching various species, though a reviewer humorously noted only catching a "large gar."
- Proximity to Geode Hunting: Its closeness to the "Keokuk geode area for geode hunting/rockhounding" offers a unique and engaging activity for campers interested in geology or unique souvenirs.
- Community Engagement (e.g., Freedom Fest): The unexpected "free concert and an excellent fireworks show" during Freedom Fest highlights the park's role as a community gathering space, offering bonus entertainment when local events are scheduled.

Riverfront Park / Goose Landing Reviews
Nice, inexpensive camping spot right on the Mississippi River. We had a blast enjoying Freedom Fest. Had no idea it was schedules and just showed up. We were treated with a free concert and an excellent fireworks show. Shared water, you might need a splitter and an extra length of hose to reach it. Also used two cords to get to the power box. Good price, but no dump station or shower house. The merry go round was the only play equipment, but it was the fastest spinning merry go round we have used. Tons of geese wandering around. Seemed like good fishing, but kids only got a large gar when they threw a line in. Boat access. One steep hill to get to the camp from the north side. If you go the long way in from the south then you can avoid the hills. The dump station is up the hill in town behind the water company. Only sad part was the garbage. There was a lot, both from the festival and from the boaters. I watched locals throw their cigarette butts down without a thought😢. If this was my local park I would work to educate people to not litter. We picked up a bag of trash, but there was just too much! This could be a 5 star gem right on the big ol Mississippi and some of the locals are working to get improvements made. It takes Civic pride amongst the community to keep a park nice though.
Jul 16, 2022 · Chris BloomfieldPerfect little camping spot facing the water. It is a small park, with maybe 10 camper spots (with water and electric) and an area for tent camping. You can hear the occasional boat or train, but it is nothing like what others have described! I am a pretty light sleeper and the "noise" was more just white noise. A camper with a generator next to me would have been louder (and I was in a tent).River access and boat launch across the parking lot and easy fishing access if you want to fish. There is also a picnic table shelter for bigger events or group meals. There are geese that hang around (hence the name Goose Landing), but they never bothered us in the least! It is an "honor system" type of thing, where if you stay, you just put your spot number and the fee in an envelope and drop it in the lockbox. I believe you can reserve spots online for longer stays, but we were were just passing through and needed a place to stop for the night. It was $10 for tent camping and (I think) $15 for campers/RVs with water and electric.Close to the Keokuk geode area for geode hunting/rockhounding.
