River of the Double Bend Campground Introduce
For those of us who call South Dakota home, there’s a unique charm to finding a local spot that feels less like a commercial enterprise and more like an extension of our own tight-knit communities. River of the Double Bend Campground in Trent embodies this perfectly. It’s a place that’s a bit hard to describe because, as one visitor put it, "it’s its own world." This isn't your average, sterile RV park; it’s a vibrant, family-oriented campground situated right on the banks of the Big Sioux River, offering an authentic, down-to-earth camping experience that truly resonates with the spirit of South Dakota.
This campground is renowned for its affordability, especially for tent campers, and its laid-back atmosphere. It’s a place where people return year after year, building a sense of "tribal love" and a "small village of people who might know each other too much" – a testament to the strong community bonds that flourish here. While it might smell faintly of cow (a familiar scent in our rural landscape) and you'll want to be prepared for the occasional South Dakota bug, the warmth of the people and the genuine feel of the place make it an exceptional value.
Whether you're looking to float down the Big Sioux River, gather around a campfire (where permitted), or simply enjoy the peace of a rural setting, River of the Double Bend offers a memorable escape. It's a place where children can roam and grownups can relax, forging connections and creating lasting memories. For South Dakotans, it’s a reminder of the simple pleasures and strong community spirit that define our state.
River of the Double Bend Campground is conveniently located at 400 W 1st St, Trent, SD 57065, USA. This address places it directly at the entrance of the very small, rural town of Trent, right alongside the picturesque Big Sioux River. Its location in southeastern South Dakota makes it highly accessible for residents throughout the eastern half of the state, particularly those in and around the Sioux Falls area.
Accessibility to the campground is quite straightforward. It’s situated approximately 25 miles north of Sioux Falls. From Interstate 29, you would take Trent Exit 104, then travel about 5 miles east, cross a bridge, and continue for 2 blocks east before turning 2 blocks north. This relatively short drive from a major interstate makes it an ideal spot for a quick weekend getaway or a convenient stop for those traveling longer distances across South Dakota.
While Trent is a small town, the campground's proximity to larger communities like Sioux Falls (about a 30-minute drive) means that campers have easy access to a wider range of amenities, including extensive grocery stores, dining options, and other attractions, should they desire them. This blend of rural tranquility and nearby urban conveniences offers the best of both worlds for South Dakota locals. The setting along the Big Sioux River provides a natural boundary that adds to the peaceful atmosphere, despite being at the edge of town.

River of the Double Bend Campground Reviews
So the river is very full! Up 10ft! Should be an awesome time to float! However i would like to see experienced boaters and it’s ultimately up to you but young children would not be able to swim in this current and it will be over all of your heads! Not trying to scare anyone just being real! Hope to see y’all soon!!!
Jul 04, 2025 · Autumn Kirkegaard RiceIt’s hard to describe this place, because I never saw something of the like even though I imagine it to be all over the nation.Campground located at the entrance of a very small rural town, alongside a river. It smells like cow, and ( SD?) weather/season brought in lots of bugs and mosquitoes. The latter is the reason why I did not stay long.$12 for tent spot including access to hot unlimited shower! Can’t beat that. The campground: tightly packed with people, RVs, and campers mainly, and some tents. This is a family campground for working families. Many people here know each other for a long time; they sit and drink together at night; they go to Steve’s and drink some more—or vice versa. There are canoes andkayaks. Fish is not good, but the river is.Yes: the 3 or so rooms with toilets and showers are not quite enough if you do not get up early. And it can be dirty because of the packs of kids and grownups. Nothing the owners can do much about. This is a very affordable place that people come back to and create family at. Tribal love. A small village of people who might know each other too much. It’s a special place and itsown world.
Jan 02, 2024 · mnasthaiStumbled across their campground on a cross country trip. So happy that we did because the place and the couple running it were wonderful! We had the river front to ourselves that night. We will go back again, next time it will be on purpose!

May 20, 2024 · randal CarpGreatest place I have found in South Dakota to camp. The staff are wonderful people and the overall feeling of the place and people there is so relaxing and enjoyable it's surreal. Now in the fall the leaves are changing and the vibrant colors and the wildlife make your morning coffee time a special life event.
