When considering a camping trip in Michigan, why is River Country Campground a place worth choosing? For many, the answer lies in its unique combination of a great location, solid amenities, and a strong focus on river recreation. Unlike a pure state forest campground, it offers the convenience of public showers and RV hookups, which adds a layer of comfort to the outdoor experience. The most compelling reason to visit, however, is the full-service livery. The ability to rent canoes and kayaks on-site and easily get on the Muskegon River is a huge advantage that attracts a wide audience, from casual floaters to avid paddlers. While recent reviews highlight concerns about new ownership and customer service issues, it's important to consider both sides. The negative feedback, which mentions being charged for parking and feeling a lack of empathy, points to a potential issue with new policies and their enforcement. This is a valid concern for potential visitors. However, the overwhelmingly positive reviews from long-time campers, who praise the wonderful people and the peaceful atmosphere, show that for many, the campground remains a cherished destination. The owners' active enforcement of quiet hours, as mentioned in a review, suggests a commitment to maintaining a positive environment for families and respectful campers. Ultimately, if you are a local or visitor to Michigan seeking a place that serves as a true hub for river activities and offers a balance of rustic charm with modern convenience, River Country Campground is a strong contender. Its established reputation and stunning location on the river make it a go-to spot for an unforgettable outdoor adventure.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 12nd year here, wonderful place and people who work here. Almost everyone respects the quiet time rules and if not the owners ride around and tell them to turn it down. My family will be coming back for a long time.
July 13 · Matt BrinkerI am so disappointed in the new ownership of River Country. My family has been using them for canoe trips for over 30 years. The customer service is horrible now. They are very unorganized and rude. They charged me for a parking pass when I came to pick up my kids after their tubing trip because there were some of them that couldn't drive. One of the male members of their staff was very rude to me instead of noticing that I wasn't happy with their policy and trying to make it right. I will be using J&J's River Run in town from now on. It makes me sad, but I miss the old owners. Maybe they will eventually sell to better business owners
July 10 · Kristi KempistyI have been camping here for years. The river is what brings me back. And the campground is convenient. But it’s time to upgrade the bathrooms and maybe clean them. Your bathrooms should be your #1 concern. Showers don’t work, dirty and old. No soap, toilets didn’t flush. It’s time for an upgrade.
June 29 · Vickie SmithI don’t even know where to begin about this place! My husband and I did our vow renewals in Niagara Falls in Canada, and we stopped here in Evart, Michigan, )on our way home to Colorado) to visit the farm where my grandparents used to live. In all of the 16 summers that I spent here, I never knew that the Muskegon river existed! Holy cow, does it, and this campground is nestled right in the middle of it 😁.We Booked two nights and stayed a day and a half, and our stay was wonderfully pleasant, and quiet in a beautifully tranquil environment. We were welcomed by the friendliest staff, and the owner of the campground even brought us flowers when she found out that we had done our vow renewal after 24 years of marriage :-).They offer a service where they can shuttle you upstream and you can ride a canoe, paddle board, or tube down the river and get back out at the campground, and we did that. It was as beautiful as promised! It was an amazing experience and we are so happy that the young girl at the desk offered it to us :-) .There’s a small little boat ramp that is sand filled where all of the kids were playing and having a wonderful time. The river is very shallow, and in front of the campground it’s only about knee deep. It is such a fun place to swim and just be a kid!The spots were clean and well kept, and provided 30 amp electric and water. The dump station is back out on River Road just around on the other side of the property. Everything was easy access, and everything was well maintained and clean. Even though the sites were grass and sand only, they were perfect for what we needed for a day and a half rest. There’s a lot of locals that have found that this is an amazing place to camp so be sure to book early, as the sites go pretty fast :-) . We can’t speak enough of how wonderful this campground, its owners, staff were. It’s a wonderful place to stop, and with the most reasonable rates in the area, it is an absolute must stop!
June 14 · Tricia CWe had a camper cancel in our group and few days later another person wanted to camp with us so they called and wasn't able to get the site within our group because it had been filled with someone else that wasn't in our group. Come to find out, the person that called to reserve a site was put on for the weekend after we were going to be there. I went to the office to see about moving the person that was in the middle of our group to another site so we could get our person in with us and our group. Angela moved that person directly across the road from us and moved our friend so they could be with us. This other camper was moved to an on River site which means she could have charged them more money per night. But she didn't do that and it was very much appreciated. Now just hoping to get my reservations for next year in the books.
