Red Bridge Campground Introduce
For Coloradans seeking a tranquil and intimate escape into nature, Red Bridge Campground in Powderhorn offers a delightful retreat that’s truly off the beaten path. This small, unpretentious campground provides a quiet and relaxing atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for those who prioritize peace, the sounds of a flowing creek, and direct access to excellent fishing opportunities. While it might lack some of the extensive amenities of larger, more developed campgrounds, its charm lies in its simplicity and its authentic connection to the Colorado wilderness. It’s a place where you can truly unwind, disconnect, and immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the Gunnison National Forest region.
Red Bridge Campground is highly favored by visitors who appreciate a more rustic and less crowded camping experience. It’s a perfect spot for those who enjoy the simple pleasures of a campfire, the quiet murmur of a nearby river, and the feeling of being away from it all. Despite some natural overgrowth of bushes and grass that might obscure river views from certain campsites, the overall consensus is that this remains a remarkably amazing location. It's a testament to the raw beauty of the area that even with minimal oversight, its inherent charm shines through. For locals, this means an accessible and serene getaway without the need for extensive planning or navigating bustling crowds, allowing for a truly refreshing and authentic Colorado outdoor adventure.
Red Bridge Campground is located at 2258 Blue Mesa Rd, Powderhorn, CO 81243, USA. This places it in a scenic and somewhat secluded area within the Gunnison National Forest, near the unincorporated community of Powderhorn. It's situated a short distance off the renowned Silver Thread National Scenic Byway (Highway 149), making it a picturesque drive to reach the campground. This location places it along the Lake Fork of the Gunnison River, a prime spot for fishing and enjoying riverside tranquility.
Accessibility to Red Bridge Campground involves traveling on Highway 149. From Lake City, drive north on Highway 149 for approximately 21 miles. As the road makes a strong right turn, look for a gravel road (County Road 25) and mailboxes on your left, then turn left and travel about 2.3 miles to the campground. From Gunnison, drive 9 miles west on Highway 50 and then turn left onto Highway 149. Travel approximately 24 miles and then turn right onto County Road 25, continuing about 2.3 miles to Red Bridge Campground. This location within the Powderhorn area, at an elevation of over 8,000 feet, provides a true high-altitude mountain experience. While the gravel roads (like County Road 25) leading to the campground are generally manageable, it's always advisable to check road conditions, especially during or after inclement weather. Its relative seclusion contributes to its quiet charm, but it also means visitors should come prepared with all necessary supplies, as immediate services are not directly available at the campground itself.

Red Bridge Campground Reviews
We love this location; quiet, easy to get too and small. The only drawback is that no one is taking care of it, and the bushes and grass have gotten so high that you can't see the river anymore from the campsite.
Aug 18, 2024 · Teena RodgersGorgeous, off the beaten path, a wonderful relaxing campground, bathroom NO SHOWERS, well maintained. Firepits, next to a flowing creek. We will be coming back
Mar 24, 2019 · Chelsea BaughmanI want to clarify something confusing to me and others about this campground. When you look at the Google aerial map OR you are driving north on Route 12. Your eyes are drawn to the area on the right side of Road 12 with the pavilion and two campsites($5/night). This NOT the main campground. The main campground is 200 feet north along the river. If you come south to Red Bridge Campground on Road 12 or from the BLM webpage, it will seem like the campground is missing two of the seven campsites. THOSE two campsites are the two with the pavilion 200 feet south of the main campground. , Picnic table, fire ring and parking spur for each campsite. One vault toilet and NO drinking water here. We visited here September 21 2021.
Feb 25, 2022 · Den UsaGreat campsite but there are 6 spots by the river but it starts to feel crowded with 2 spots filled. Also the chipmunks 🐿 ate through one of my water jugs.
Aug 14, 2020 · AmandaNice shade trees. Very tough fishing even with (or because of) the low water.
