Plateau Hame De Colquhoun Introduce
For New Mexico locals craving an escape from the ordinary and a true connection with the vast, beautiful desert landscape, Plateau Hame De Colquhoun, affectionately known as Ka-Hoon, offers a unique and unforgettable experience. Tucked away on the edge of a mesa in Bosque, this isn't just a campground; it's an off-grid oasis where wide-open spaces, breathtaking views, and a sense of community converge. Whether you're seeking solitude under a blanket of stars or a vibrant gathering with like-minded individuals, Ka-Hoon provides a distinctive New Mexico adventure.
The Land of Enchantment is celebrated for its diverse landscapes, from majestic mountains to expansive deserts, and Ka-Hoon perfectly encapsulates the rugged beauty of the latter. For New Mexico residents, the opportunity to discover such a place, offering both profound quiet and the potential for lively events, is truly appealing. It's a testament to the state's spirit of independence and connection to the land, inviting you to experience camping in a way that’s both authentic and deeply refreshing.
Imagine a place where the biggest distractions are the sweeping views of the Rio Grande Valley and distant mountain ranges, where sunsets paint the sky with unimaginable colors, and where the Milky Way is clearly visible. This is the daily reality at Ka-Hoon. The owners, Brent and Melodie, have poured their passion into creating a space built on respect – for oneself, others, the land, and local laws. Their journey of living simply and sustainably is shared with every visitor, fostering an environment where you can truly "just be."
While Ka-Hoon embraces an off-grid philosophy, it doesn't compromise on hospitality or the potential for enriching experiences. It's a work in progress, a developing tiny homestead with ongoing land projects that add to its unique character. This blend of rustic charm and evolving facilities creates a dynamic environment that feels both grounded and full of potential, appealing to those who appreciate authenticity and a less conventional approach to outdoor recreation.
Plateau Hame De Colquhoun is located at 470 Powerline Rd, Bosque, NM 87006, USA. This address places it in a secluded part of Bosque, a community situated within Valencia County, New Mexico. The campground is notably "off-grid" and described as being on the "edge of the Mesa," offering expansive views of the Rio Grande Valley and distant mountain ranges. This unique positioning is a significant draw for those seeking a tranquil and scenic desert experience.
Accessing Ka-Hoon involves traversing approximately 11 miles of unpaved, "bumpy (but flat and safe) roads" or "washboarded with dips" roads after exiting I-25 at exit 191 (Belen, NM). While reviewers consistently advise taking it slow and allowing ample time for the drive, especially if you have a low-clearance vehicle, the road is generally passable for most. The journey itself becomes part of the adventure, leading to a truly secluded destination that rewards the effort with unparalleled peace and views.
For New Mexico locals, Bosque is readily accessible from major population centers. From Albuquerque, the drive is typically less than an hour south, making Ka-Hoon a viable option for a weekend getaway. From Santa Fe, the journey is longer but still manageable, usually around 1.5 to 2 hours. The detailed directions provided by the hosts are crucial, as standard GPS might not accurately capture the nuances of the rural roads. This ensures that even though it’s "out of the way," campers can navigate to this hidden gem effectively, allowing them to disconnect from urban life and immerse themselves in the New Mexico desert landscape.
