Pine Flats Campground is strategically located on Mad River Road in Entiat, Washington, making it an accessible yet secluded destination for many within the state. The address, Mad River Rd, Entiat, WA 98822, USA, places it within a reasonable driving distance for residents of central Washington and beyond. While it feels wonderfully remote, its proximity to towns like Leavenworth and Chelan means you're never too far from essential services or additional recreational opportunities, should you choose to explore further. However, the true appeal of Pine Flats lies in its ability to offer a genuine wilderness experience while still being within reach. Its location along the Mad River ensures a stunning natural backdrop and the soothing presence of flowing water, a highlight for many visitors. Drivers should be prepared for typical forest service road conditions as they approach, adding to the sense of adventure and discovery that defines a trip to Pine Flats. The drive itself becomes part of the experience, winding through beautiful Washington landscapes, setting the tone for the peaceful environment that awaits.
Pine Flats Campground, while intentionally rustic, provides key services to ensure a comfortable and authentic camping experience. It's designed for those who appreciate simplicity and self-reliance in nature.
Campsites: The campground features a small number of sites, typically six, operating on a first-come, first-served basis. This intimate setting contributes to the quiet and uncrowded atmosphere that visitors frequently praise.
Restroom Facilities: There are a few outhouses available for campers' convenience. These are basic facilities, consistent with a more primitive camping experience, and guests are encouraged to practice Leave No Trace principles.
Water Access: A water pump is present at the campground. While available, some past visitors have opted to bring their own water, and it's always advisable to purify or filter any water from natural sources when camping. It's important to be self-sufficient regarding water supply, especially for longer stays.
Trash Disposal: Trash cans are provided, making it easier for campers to dispose of their waste properly. However, the prevailing ethos is "pack out what you pack in," encouraging campers to minimize their environmental impact.
No Hookups: It's important to note that Pine Flats Campground does not offer electrical or water hookups, making it unsuitable for RVs requiring such amenities. This contributes to its quiet, more traditional camping appeal.
Fees and Passes: There is a nightly fee for camping, which historically has been around $8 per vehicle. Additionally, a specific US Forest Service pass may be required. Campers should verify current fee structures and pass requirements with the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest or relevant authorities before their visit, as these can change.
The unique features and highlights of Pine Flats Campground are what truly set it apart and draw visitors seeking a specific type of outdoor experience.
Small and Intimate: With only six campsites, Pine Flats offers a rare sense of seclusion and privacy often hard to find in larger, more popular campgrounds. This limited capacity ensures a quieter, more personal connection with nature.
Riverside Serenity: The campground is situated directly on a river creek, with the constant, soothing sound of rushing water providing a natural soundtrack to your stay. Campsite #1 is particularly notable for its private access to the river, offering an unparalleled opportunity for riverside relaxation.
Quiet Atmosphere: Numerous visitors consistently highlight the peacefulness of Pine Flats. Its location, slightly removed from the more heavily trafficked tourist areas of Leavenworth and Chelan, tends to attract a "quieter type" of camper, fostering an environment of tranquility and relaxation.
Scenic Beauty: Surrounded by the natural beauty of the Washington wilderness, the campground provides stunning views and an immersive natural setting. It’s an ideal spot for those looking to disconnect from technology and reconnect with the outdoors.
Hiking Opportunities: A trail is accessible directly from the campground, offering opportunities for short walks or longer hikes. While details about specific trails are best obtained locally, the presence of a trail enhances the outdoor recreational options for campers.
First-Come, First-Served: The first-come, first-served policy for campsites means that spontaneity can lead to discovery. While it requires a bit of flexibility, it also means you might stumble upon this peaceful spot when you least expect it, making for a truly memorable experience.
Wildlife Viewing Potential: Given its natural setting, the campground offers opportunities for observing local wildlife, enhancing the wilderness experience. Birdwatching and observing smaller mammals are often possibilities.

May 29, 2025 · Marisa Langeas of Aug. 2020 - 6 campsites, first come first served. there are two outhouses, trash cans, and a water pump (though I brought my own and can't vouch for how clean the water from the pump is).it cost $8/night for one vehicle, and required a pass that I didn't have. US Forest Service something, but not Discover.I found Pine Flats beautiful and quiet. campsite #1, where I stayed, is the only site with its own private access to the river. I enjoyed this immensely.though it has just 6 campsites, during my stay only half were filled. I think it's far enough from Leavenworth and Chelan that it attracts a quieter type.I felt more relaxed here than I have in quite awhile.
Aug 31, 2020 · Abby KrajewskiNice little place. Trailhead leading way up into the mountains from the campground. Hand pump well water. Sites are a generous size. River was running fast and strong - could sweep someone away easily. Close to supplies when you need them.
