Payne Campground Reviews
First time camping here and we all loved it..Front desk lady was friendly and helpful. She got us checked in quickly. It was a little awkward that we have to park a few feet away from the registration desk n not a drive through. The camping area was great. Lot 40 is wooded and nicely tucked in with great access to lake. This lot had about 15-20 steps to get down to campsite from parking, so moving your stuff back n forth from car to campsite was a little bit of addl work. The electricity wasn't working when we came but once we notified the authorities at frontdesk, it was addressed promptly. The campsites are close enough to each other. So it's good n bad. You don't have complete privacy but you can have great time with other campers. The beach area was good. Had decent beach space and swim area. But the sand here is unusually colored. Left a greenish yellow layer of color on my feet after playing in sand n occasionally stepping into the water. Something was off about it. But we had a great time there. The restrooms were good. Functional showers and toilets. Toilet paper was available all the time n a small soap dispenser as well.Overall, a great campground for families to spend few days here. Highly recommend it.
May 25, 2025 · Vijay PThis campground has great potential. The sites are big and spread out for the most part. Some sites directly on the water.BUT… the sites are not cleaned (blown) and firepits not cleaned out. PLUS… I do not believe they clean the showers. I took a shower 3 days in a row and the same nasty black hair was on the wall all three days.It is a beautiful area and would be full all the time with a little maintenance. Next time we will go to Red Mountain State Park which absolutely beautiful and well maintained.
Apr 23, 2025 · whit1306Since July 4th,2024 I’ve went here at least once a day-Here we are at 8/6/24 and I still go- It’s absolutely gorgeous here, the Folks that work in the front are amazing. If your looking for a place that’s easily accessible to the water, this is the spot- But don’t take my word for it,see for yourselves
Aug 06, 2024 · Rickeyl DavisPayne is a larger campground than a few others in the area, but the loops mean most sites have water access. There is a nice clean swimming area, sectioned off with bright yellow booms. The staff is always available and very helpful. Plenty of safe space for kids to play.We were in site 34 and loved it. We just backed in to the site! We have an electric awning on our camper and it was hot when we arrived, but shortly after, the breeze kicked in and it was delightful.
May 06, 2024 · Jack “aka Richard” GraberPicture of campsite didn't match the campsite. Swampy and smelly. People brought dogs to play on the beach. Since we stayed there for five nights we were able to scout out better camp sites for future visits. Attendants were very friendly and professional.Dislike new check in and checkout time. Responsible campers are being hurt by those that don't vacant campsites on time, hence the new check out time. Charge late fees versus making us leave early- brought a day but not even getting a half day of use.
