New Fork Lake Campground

Campground ★4.0

Forest Rd 735A, Cora, WY 82925, USA

This lake was super nice! The water is clean, but cold if u want to swim. People can swim, kayak, fish or just camp. The terrain is rough once there by shore. We kayaked one evening and the view was spectacular. Also used the side by side and got to see the lake from top. Carry your bear spray. - Ana Garcia

New Fork Lake Campground Introduce

For Wyoming residents seeking a quintessential mountain escape, New Fork Lake Campground is a destination that truly delivers. Tucked away in the breathtaking Bridger-Teton National Forest near Cora, this campground offers more than just a place to pitch a tent; it provides an immersive experience in one of the state's most scenic areas. With the majestic Wind River Range as a backdrop and the crystal-clear waters of New Fork Lake just steps away, it's a paradise for anyone who loves the outdoors. A visitor described the lake as "super nice" with "clean, but cold" water, perfect for swimming on a warm day. This campground is a hub for adventure, whether you're a seasoned hiker, an avid angler, or a family simply looking to relax by the water. The rugged beauty of the surroundings, combined with the peaceful atmosphere, makes it a cherished spot for many local campers.

New Fork Lake Campground is situated on Forest Road 735A, near Cora, Wyoming, approximately 24 miles north of Pinedale. This location places it in a prime position to explore the stunning scenery of the Bridger-Teton National Forest and the Bridger Wilderness Area. The drive to the campground, while scenic, is an important detail for visitors to consider. According to one review, the road into the campground can be "very treacherous," and those driving a car should "use a lot of caution." This highlights the importance of being prepared with a suitable vehicle, especially a truck or an SUV with good clearance, particularly during certain seasons.

Despite the challenging access road, the campground's remote location is what makes it so special, ensuring a more secluded and authentic wilderness feel. Once you arrive, on-site parking is available. The remoteness also means that you should be prepared for potential encounters with wildlife and always carry bear spray, as one reviewer wisely advised. The combination of a peaceful, isolated setting with a short drive from Pinedale, a full-service community, makes it an ideal spot for those who want to feel far away while still having a town nearby for any unexpected needs.

New Fork Lake Campground provides a set of essential services that focus on what campers truly need for a comfortable stay in a natural setting.

  • Tent Sites: The campground offers individual tent sites, some of which are located just a short walk from the lake, providing a more intimate and scenic camping experience. There are also group campsites available by reservation.

  • Public Restrooms: The campground is equipped with vault toilets, which provide a basic but essential service for campers.

  • On-Site Parking: On-site parking is available at the individual campsites, as well as a separate parking area for the day-use area and the Narrows trailhead.

  • Camping Fee: There is a fee for camping, which helps with the upkeep and maintenance of the campground and its facilities.

  • Dogs Allowed: The campground is dog-friendly, allowing you to bring your furry companions along for the adventure, though they must be leashed at all times.

  • No Running Water: It is very important for visitors to note that there is no drinking water available on-site at many of the campsites. Campers must plan accordingly and bring their own water for drinking, cooking, and cleaning.

The features and highlights of New Fork Lake Campground are what make it a must-visit destination for anyone in Wyoming who loves the outdoors.

  • Stunning Lake Access: The beautiful New Fork Lake is the main attraction. The water is clean and offers a range of activities including kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing, and swimming. One camper loved kayaking on the lake and found the view to be "spectacular." There is a boat launch available for those with watercraft.

  • Exceptional Hiking Trails: The campground is a gateway to numerous hiking trails around the lake and into the surrounding Bridger Wilderness, which offers a variety of experiences from easy, kid-friendly walks to more challenging backcountry adventures.

  • Incredible Views: Campers rave about the "incredible views." The lake, framed by mountains and forests, is a sight to behold from the shoreline or from a higher vantage point on a side-by-side or on foot.

  • Wildlife Viewing: The area is known for wildlife. It's an excellent place for spotting local fauna, but this also means being bear aware and carrying bear spray, as recommended by a reviewer.

  • Peaceful Atmosphere: While the day-use area can get busy on weekends, the campground itself offers a peaceful and relaxing environment, perfect for unwinding and escaping the noise of daily life.
