Great little campground that we found space in on July 4th weekend. It was quiet and beautiful with lake access. The lake is low but still fishable. Picnic table and fire ring. Vault toilets that were clean and not stinky! The road is a little rough but can be accessed by 2 WD. Highly recommend! - Nicole May

Mosca Campground - Gunnison RD is located at Co Rd 744, Almont, CO 81210, USA. This places it within the vast and beautiful Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre, and Gunnison National Forests, specifically near Spring Creek Reservoir. To reach this serene spot from Gunnison, you'll head north on CO 135 to Almont. From Almont, turn right onto County Road 742 and travel approximately 6 miles. Then, turn left onto Forest Road 744 (also known as Spring Creek Road) and continue for about 12 miles until you reach the campground. While the road to Mosca Campground is described by visitors as "a little rough," it is generally accessible by 2-wheel drive vehicles. However, caution is advised, especially after rain, as road conditions can deteriorate. The journey itself is part of the experience, winding through picturesque mountain landscapes that immediately begin your escape into nature. Its relative proximity to Almont and Gunnison means you're not entirely isolated from basic services, yet feel wonderfully remote once you arrive at the campground, making it a convenient escape for many Colorado residents.

Mosca Campground offers a straightforward yet highly effective set of services designed to provide a comfortable and authentic camping experience in the national forest.

  • First-Come, First-Served Basis: All 16 campsites at Mosca Campground are available on a first-come, first-served basis. While specific fish species aren't detailed in the reviews, reservoirs in Colorado generally host various trout species (rainbow, brown, cutthroat) and potentially others like kokanee salmon. It's truly a "favorite fishing spot" for many.
