For Iowans seeking a practical, affordable, and conveniently located camping option, Missouri Valley City Campground presents an excellent choice. Its suitability for locals stems from several key aspects that resonate with the values and needs of those living in the Hawkeye State.
Firstly, affordability is a significant draw. With rates as low as $15-$25 for essential hookups, this campground offers exceptional value, making it a budget-friendly option for weekend getaways or an overnight stop without breaking the bank. For Iowans who appreciate good value and sensible spending, this campground hits the mark, allowing families and individuals to enjoy the outdoors more frequently.
Secondly, its strategic location in Missouri Valley makes it highly accessible for a wide range of Iowans. Situated near Interstate 29 and other major routes, it serves as an ideal base for exploring Western Iowa's attractions, such as the beautiful Loess Hills, or as a convenient stop on longer journeys across the state or to neighboring Nebraska and Missouri. The ease of access minimizes travel time and maximizes enjoyment, a crucial factor for busy local families and travelers.
Furthermore, the blend of essential services—electric and water hookups, and a vital dump station—provides the necessary comforts without unnecessary frills. This pragmatic approach appeals to many Iowans who appreciate functional efficiency. The "quiet overnight" atmosphere, despite being within city limits, offers the peaceful retreat many seek after a day of exploration or travel. While occasional train noise is noted, it's a familiar sound in many Midwestern towns and often adds to the rustic charm rather than detracting significantly from the experience for those accustomed to it.
The fact that it’s a "city campground" also carries an implicit sense of security and community pride. Locals often appreciate well-maintained public spaces, and city parks frequently offer a cleaner, more orderly environment than some more remote, privately run sites. This offers peace of mind for families and solo travelers alike.
Finally, for Iowans who enjoy both RVing and traditional tent camping, the campground's versatility to accommodate both equally well is a bonus. The "lots of space for tents" combined with well-laid out RV sites means it can serve diverse preferences. Missouri Valley City Campground truly embodies the no-nonsense, friendly, and community-oriented spirit that defines much of Iowa, making it a highly suitable and cherished resource for locals looking to enjoy the outdoors affordably and conveniently.

Missouri Valley City Campground Reviews
Very nice park with RV sites around the perimeter along the fence. Electric at each site, water at every 3rd site. No sewer connection but there is a dump site. It was quiet overnight with the exception of an occasional train. Sites are only $15 put into a drop box. The pay envelope bin was empty and, according to others, had been that way for over a week. City workers came and went every day but no one checked for payments.

Jul 01, 2025 · Nichole WoodardThe hookups are around tje fence. You park on side..water is about every 3rd site, bring a long hose. There is a kids park right next to camping. Beautiful location.
May 23, 2024 · Tessa MitchellNice little city campground. The bathrooms (no showers) are on the SE corner of one of the big white buildings. The bathrooms on the NW side and facing the park are locked (only open for special events I believe) and not part of the campground.
Jun 24, 2022 · Darrin OchsnerStayed in a tent. Trains come through repeatedly at night blowing their horn. It is a nice little park but the train horns ruins it, at least for tent campers. Can not recommend unfortunately.
