The camp has gone downhill. Bathrooms are not functional. The entire camp area is litered with trash. One of our riders & mules was chased by the ground takers' dogs. They didn't offer to help or get their dogs or apologize. Trails are getting grown up. It's so sad to see this falling apart. - Kate Kirkendoll

It's a concept that deeply appeals to the many Arkansans who treasure their horses and seek immersive experiences in our state's natural wilderness.

Lonesome D Horse Camp has traditionally offered a blend of amenities suitable for both horse and rider, distinguishing itself as a specialized destination. While the core idea remains a haven for equestrian camping, recent public feedback indicates that prospective visitors should be aware of reported concerns regarding the current upkeep of the facilities and the overall guest experience. As such, while we provide an overview of the camp's intended offerings, we strongly advise direct communication with the camp management for the most up-to-date information on its current condition and operational status.

Lonesome D Horse Camp is located at 776 Cravens Ln, New Blaine, AR 72851, USA. New Blaine is a small community situated in the Arkansas River Valley, offering access to some of the state's most prominent natural attractions. This location places the camp near significant equestrian trail systems and natural landmarks.

The camp's proximity to areas like Huckleberry Mountain and Mount Magazine State Park is a key aspect of its accessibility for trail riders. Mount Magazine, in particular, is Arkansas's highest point and offers extensive trails and breathtaking views. Access to New Blaine typically involves driving along state highways that wind through scenic landscapes, characteristic of Arkansas's diverse terrain, from fertile river valleys to rolling hills. While the address provides direct guidance, as a specialized horse camp, access typically involves navigating rural roads, and visitors should ensure their vehicles and trailers are suitable for such routes. The focus on horse trails suggests that the surrounding area is well-suited for equestrian exploration, providing a truly immersive experience for riders.

Based on historical information and general descriptions, Lonesome D Horse Camp has offered a range of services designed for horse owners and campers. However, it's important to cross-reference this with current conditions by contacting the camp directly. Traditionally, services included:

  • Campsites with Hookups: The camp has been advertised with 30-47 modern RV campsites featuring water and electric hookups (20/30/50 amp). This is crucial for RV campers requiring amenities.

  • Individual Horse Corrals: A key feature for horse owners, individual corrals are typically provided at campsites, allowing for secure and convenient housing of horses overnight.

  • Primitive Campsites: For those preferring a more rustic experience or tent camping, primitive sites have also been available.

  • Bathhouse: A "large bathhouse" with toilets and showers (including hot water) has been listed as an amenity, providing essential hygiene facilities for campers.

  • Dump Station: An RV dump station for waste disposal has been part of the facilities, offering convenience for RV users.

  • Truck and Trailer Parking: Ample parking for trucks and horse trailers is a vital service for equestrian campers.

  • Camp Farrier: Some historical descriptions mention the availability of a "camp farrier," which would be an invaluable service for horse owners needing hoof care while on their trip.

  • Swimming Access: Swimming opportunities have been noted, likely in a nearby creek or natural water body.

  • Camp Store: A camp store has also been listed among the amenities, potentially offering basic supplies and provisions.

Lonesome D Horse Camp's unique appeal lies in its specialized focus on equestrian camping and its natural setting. While historical features are compelling, potential visitors should verify their current availability and condition. Historically, highlights included:

  • Extensive Horse Trails: The camp is designed to provide access to a network of horse trails that explore the scenic Huckleberry Mountain and Mount Magazine areas. These trails offer diverse riding experiences, from "logging roads to wooded riding," with "gorgeous overlooks, creeks," and varying difficulty levels from easy to more difficult. Some sources suggest up to 75-100 miles of trails.

  • Dedicated Equestrian Facilities: The provision of individual horse corrals at campsites and truck/trailer parking specifically caters to the needs of horse owners, making it a true "horse camp."

  • Natural Beauty: The camp is "nestled in the mountains" and offers "beautiful bluffs, creeks, mountains, wildlife," providing a stunning backdrop for outdoor activities and a sense of immersion in nature.

  • Proximity to Mount Magazine State Park: Being near Mount Magazine, Arkansas's highest peak, offers additional opportunities for exploration, including hiking and scenic drives, beyond just horse riding.

  • Potential for Year-Round Use: While some trails might be best in specific seasons, the "All Year" designation by some sources suggests it can be a destination across different times, though primary riding seasons are typically spring to fall.

Direct communication will allow you to verify current operational conditions, confirm the availability and functionality of specific amenities (like bathrooms), inquire about trail conditions, and address any concerns you may have before planning your trip. This proactive approach will help ensure a more informed and potentially smoother experience.

We Arkansans cherish our natural beauty and the opportunity for deep outdoor engagement, and a dedicated horse camp speaks directly to this spirit.

However, it's paramount for local users to approach this destination with current information.
