For those coming from Albuquerque, the drive is typically around an hour and a half to two hours, offering a manageable journey for a weekend escape. From Santa Fe, the drive is similarly convenient, making it an accessible destination for a day trip or an overnight stay. The route itself is part of the experience, winding through picturesque mountain passes and offering stunning views that are quintessential New Mexico.
While the campground is nestled in a forested, mountainous area, the access roads leading to it are generally well-maintained, allowing for comfortable travel for most vehicles, including SUVs and those towing smaller trailers. The direct access to the Jemez Falls hiking trail from the back of the campground is an exceptional highlight, meaning visitors don't have to drive again to enjoy one of the area's most popular attractions.
Its placement within the Santa Fe National Forest means visitors are immersed in a protected natural environment, yet still within a reasonable distance of services in Jemez Springs if needed. This balance of remote beauty and practical accessibility makes Jemez Falls Campground a highly suitable and sought-after destination for locals looking to explore their own state.

Jemez Falls Campgrounds Reviews
Beautiful campground! Large sites! Had to reserve on recreation.gov but price was very fair. There is no shower just vault toilets that don’t flush. No running water at campground. However it’s a gorgeous campground, fully covered with tall pine trees, although we found a spot between the trees to put our tent and left the rain cover off so that we could fall asleep admiring all of the stars which are viewable here, since it’s an international dark sky area (Valles caldera down the road has the designation.) There was enough space to pull in both of our SUV’s and they were not in the way, oh and it’s dog friendly. A picnic table and fire ring and plenty of large rocks and boulders to sit on. Jemez falls hiking trail is at the back of the campground, it’s an added bonus. We will definitely return!
Oct 15, 2024 · Siddharth Sinha (Sid & Sarah)Such a gorgeous place. We didn't get to camp here but we parked here to hike to the falls. It's a super short and pretty hike through ponderosa forest. The trailis mostly wide and flat but gets rocky at the end. The falls are loud but hard to see from the viewing area. We hiked it with 2 toddlers, no problem.
Sep 15, 2024 · Ava VerdugoBeautiful well kept campground. Clean bathrooms and very peaceful. Camp hosts friendly and helpful.
Oct 28, 2024 · Sassy CatalogerWe stayed at Loop 1 Site 2 which was very close to a drinking water tap and a wheelchair accessible toilet which I haven't seen much. Views are great, site was clean and well maintained and peaceful. Only an hour and a half from Abq and right next to Jemez falls. Overall great experience.
Jul 09, 2021 · Casey RiebenBeautiful campground! Very quiet and serene. Book this one for as long as you can stay. I didn't want to leave. Bring a good sweater, the nights we're much cooler than expected for the end of July. The trails are nice, scenery is amazing, and bathrooms were clean. Will definitely be returning!
