Jakway Forest Campground

2791 136th St, Aurora, IA 50607, USA

4.0
Beautifully mowed county park with large mature trees along a paved highway. First part has a playscape, swings, picnic tables, large pavilion, horseshoes, a digger sand tool, frisbee golf, bathrooms, water pump, recycling, historic Jakway-Richardson house and barn, and benches throughout. There is a handicapped parking space. The second part is a big circular drive campground. There are some existing campfire rings. Also a shower house and "RV dump" area. The third part of the park features some mowed casual hiking paths thru the woods along a creek. There is signage to guide and describe. The only negative part of this park is a "green slimey pond" in the woods. Can't the conservation people get that more under control? This is a missed opportunity. There is a "park ranger" living on the premise. (Nearest gas station is 4 miles away in Lamont. Lamont is very close to Backbone State Park, the oldest in Iowa.) - Amy K
